Oh boy. As a 40 yr current employee of UPS and Teamster member here I will say that UPS management failed miserably in 1997 when we went on strike for 15 days. They could not carry the load of what was then 185,00 Teamsters on the the picket line. Even with the few scabs they had, the company basically came to a screeching halt.. I remember there was even a manager who tried to drive a feeder and unfortunately died when he wrecked it. There are currently 340,000 Teamsters ready to go out and it is just not possible for UPS management to unload, sort then load and deliver the 25 million packages daily to our customers. The UPS pilots will honor our picket lines as well obviously so there will be no overnight Air deliveries either. Stop screwing around UPS and get back to the bargaining table asap. The Teamsters will go out at 12.01 midnight on July 31, 2023. Trust in that.

What people don’t understand. If ups workers don’t succeed. Labor cost will plummet. These companies are not paying the wages that they are because they like you. Its only because of the unions that they try to match those wages. They will replace you with the lowest wage as they can. Some of these companies are under a contract with their employees. But yet their profits are twice as much as non union. Go figure. There’s plenty of meat left on the bone. If you don’t like the sound of this, it’s probably because you’re a owner or a idiot

Most management personnel are in management because they were wannabe drivers that failed. Speaking from experience, I was a UPS full-time driver for 35 years. Now retired, Union strong 💪

a full time blabbed to me last night lmfao. Apparently in NJ they are closing all but 2 buildings and moving all the supervisors from the closed buildings there. part time will be in the building while full time is out using their personal vehicles to deliver packages. Apparently they are only going to be doing business with medical supplies and light shipments so the supervisors "wont be overwhelmed", but they will lose a lot of money doing so. They will also be overwhelmed no matter what lol. They expect the union to only last 2 weeks with their strike fund. not sure about other states.

My full time preload supervisor breaks into a cold hard sweat just from walking down the stairs to the vending machine. I would literally pay to see him unload a full 53ft trailer. A bunch of chair spinners who falsify time cards and make each other cups of coffee. Good luck.

What we learn in integrad plus our 30 day probation cannot be learned within two weeks. Expect service failures and crashes to spike After August 1st

There's a supervisor at the site I work at and she sits in the air conditioned bathroom and stays on her phone. She does it whether it's break time or not. No way she's going to be able to take the heat with her very overweight and unfit self.

I'm a pt local sort supervisor. I took the sup job after being a PVD. No driving jobs available in my area. I respect the Teamsters on my shift. They work hard. There are supervisors in my building that do not treat the Teamsters with respect. I don't understand their mentality. We are not better than anyone. We just have different jobs that we all need to be competent at. If UPS will not give you what you deserve then do what you have to do!

Another thing to keep in mind is August is the hottest month of the year along with July and obviously the hardest time to do our job. That just adds to the problem of management trying to cover volume.

So which supervisors will be flying the planes?

Before you get working grab a piece of fruit and a bottle of water and that will make it ok!!Welcome to what tbe Teamsters do everyday all night all year in all weather.Make sure your shoes are polished and you are clean shaven,and your uniform is pressed and looking sharp.when you lift those 150lb packages use your powerzone,make sure you take a full hour lunch between the 4th and 5th hour of your day and dont be paid over whatever you do!

When John Deere employees went on strike a couple years ago, management tried working their jobs. The first day, someone crashed a tractor into the building.

So, when the strike happens and a bunch of the management are forced to work triple time, and subsequently several die of heatstroke, will UPS be held responsible for their deaths? Because it happened during the 1997 UPS strike. Improperly trained management tried, and not all of them survived. But UPS doesn't care, it's just a cost of doing business to them. Just like the Teamsters that didn't make it through the pandemic. Acceptable losses, So long as the big money number gets bigger every quarter.

Well as a UPS administrator that works everyday with managment i can say the management defintely have enough down time to do other work. Which is why its sad that the manager/corporate side wants to keep the profit away from tramsters

I work at a hub and on my shift it’s such a mess and that’s with the employees. If it was just management Alone they’re screwed.

Big training deficits in newbies, too. They never seem to have the ethics and drive to please the customer as us seasoned, "career" hub hourlies. It really does boil down to just a job to the hierarchy, doesn't it? And here I akways fancied myself in a career. Reality check. SOME Sups dont always even know enough about an area to uphold any sort of "standard of excellence". If they cant iron this out, and we strike, its gonna be bad. Those sups really are caught in the middle. No wonder so many got out while the gettin was good, and they always throwing "apprecuation" trinkets at us. The entire country is caught up in the middle. The company needs to step up.

You didn't have Amazon in 1997 online shipping and ordering was nowhere near what it is. UPS have to remember that. More competition as well to steal customers. 160000 employees went on strike in 97 this time it'll be 340,000 this time it was a 97% yes strike vote which is crazy insane for 340,000

We need to follow them around and give them warning letters every time they fail to square up to the bulkhead door or use the handrail properly. We also need to take ipad tablets out with us and let them know how terrible their trace is as well and what the over allowed is for each stop. LOL!

And they will have to cross labor lines to do so. Not a pretty sight.

In 1997 we learned that UPS management failed miserably trying to do the work of only 197,000 (approximately) and that was with less volume. I worked for UPS for 30 years and retired as a shop steward and we had a phrase, "those that do, do, those that can't go into management." They hire supervisors (kids) who have no idea what the job is or how to do it trying to tell employees who have been doing the job longer then they have been alive, how supposedly how to do the job.

This is so true I worked there for 3 years from 18 to 21 and once I started talking about wanting to be a driver my manager tried to make me a supervisor ( trapping me ) and I did not want to do it so I refused then all the sudden i get less hours 0 overtime at all and that’s where the moneys made , so we fought about it for 3 months while I still tried be a driver eventually I gave up and quit and now Amazon driver

Driving job pays way more then any supervisor plus I would keep union and free insurance healthcare. you lose all your insurance and benefits also not in union anymore being supervisor , I thought about it for a minute and I just don’t think that route is worth it .

So ever supervisor has a CDL? I didn’t know that, how are they going to get the semi’s to the hub to unload them sort them then load them on a new rig the contract says supervisors are not to touch union work

If UPS is anything like my employer, the boss can't even get a truck started!

I was around for the 1997 strike. Back then the pilots, mechanics, and shop repairmen all walked with us. Expect the same this time. Back in 1997 managers also had to have driving experience before becoming a supervisor. That has also changed. They will not be able to move the volume efficiently in the event of a strike. They move more than 5% of the GDP. I urge anyone reading this to call UPS and ask them to get back to the negotiating table. The Teamsters have stated that they will not strike if a tentative agreement is reached. That tells me that the union is willing to talk and UPS is not.

They will concentrate on Air as the priority, having feeder on road pull Air to the local airports and UPS will contract airlines to move volume. The 2nd phase will be trying to process Local Cpu volume

They've told themselves for years that they are better than the hourlys. Theyve told themselves for years that they know the best way to do everything. Some actually believe that their presence and looking at there phones and watches makes the work get done. Theyve literally convinced themselves that because they clean up a sort at the end they can move 100% of the volume. I want a strike just so i can relish in the memory of watching reality shatter their hopes and dreams.

I've seen them cover loading trucks while someone went to the bathroom and they couldn't keep up and were all stacked out by the time the people came back...And to say they can go out and drive a route...? Our facilities don’t have enough management to do that… CDL A drivers who are management and who drive triples are not common and they can only drive one route at a time… this is going to be tough for the country if there is a strike

No I am 100% serious. Not doing that work. 8 months pregnant. I didn’t get hired to do it so I won’t. I plan on sitting at home. Besides, I can’t remember how many other times other supervisors had grievances filed on them for doing union work. Why would this be any different? My dad has been a union work for over 25 years. It would be disrespectful on so many levels. The fact that UPS is asking us to do union work is a joke.

At my UPS, we currently sweat profusely, and are in constant need of water. Anytime management does any kind of work that we Teamsters do, they sweat even more than us and run out of breath way fast. They are only used to walking slow or fast, sitting down, standing, walking up and down steps, and passing out papers. Thinking our 5 or 6 supervisors can unload multiple semi trucks, then load about 80 or so trucks, then deliver is insane. They can barely load one truck in a warehouse full of employees on any regular day. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Expect these PT sups will have to take turns, or some will walk. Theyll all be fighting over the DA position. But I'm sure theyll probably need far more DA folks, if ya get my drift. For their sakes, I pray ambulance workers dont decide to strike. Most, (not all, of course) break a sweat hoifin' it, when out of radio range when the big boss cant locate them, cuz they're out having a smoke in a smoke free hub.

I find that sups half my age and years there will argue with each other over protocols I get trained the correct way and am tested every year on and required to complete with 100% accuracy.

Good luck running routes with no area knowledge! Try to figure out what to do when the diad crashes, and how to collect brokerage fees and multiple checks for cod's! They will wilt after just 30 min in a trailer loading or unloading, yet the employees do it 4 hours with only a single 10 min break!!

Different times back then, more people willing to work and take jobs of the strikers. UPS will figure how to run it with new employees and outsourcing before they reach a new contract lol

They won't be able to keep up for any amount of time. You also cannot train someone off the street to do this job efficiently. They will fold under the pressure.

its one thing to know how things are supposed to be done its a entirely different game of implementing it yourself i hope they do have to do that they will have a much more bigger respect for there employees aftewards

30 years ago every supervisor and manager could easily outperform any hourly employee. Not sure how it is now. But theres not enough management to barely deliver the Next day air. They wont be able to do much more than getting Next Day Airs delivered within maybe 24-48 hours. Ground....no way. What they do is deliver everything thats in the system already and then thats it. Work pretty much stops because they cant do the pickups too.

I remember 97 in Louisville was a total disaster for Ups. Package cats going out empty, supervision getting in to physical altercations. The dumbest statement to make is that management is better than teamsters, never have been, never will be!!!!

@@claycompton1194 I was a supervisor in Preload and I was able to outperform EVERY single one of my crew. We had to prove ourselves before we were promoted. Most of the workers I trained and kept went on to be supervisors and drivers. It was considered a failure of the supervisor to fire an employee. They invested a lot in training and they had well engineered processes. When I went driving, I was trained by a manager, who just like me in Preload, could do better stops per hour than any hourly driver, even going out on a route blind. Were talking about a major city here. Things may be different in rural parts. I learned how to be a Package Driver from a manager who was a badass and he taught me well. I went on to be as good as them on the routes I knew. I intentionally died miserably whenever they put me on a blind route to discourage the practice. I never wanted to go back into management or have a long term career at that point so I wasnt trying to move up. When they left me alone on the 2-4 routes I liked and gave me enough days off I ran under and did a good job. The managers will easily be able to drain the system of whatever packages are in it within 7-10 days when the strikes hit. Then it will be very light when the strike is over and they will send at least half home the first few days until they can get the pickups going and re-hydrate the system. At least thats how it went for us. That also gave them to focus on harassing the "least best" drivers that didnt cross the lines.

Theyre playing chicken right now, both sides cant agree to a contract until the 11th hour because it will make both sides constituates feel like something was left on the table be it teamster members or shareholders, my guess is they reach a deal on the 29th-30th and both act like they won

@@phillipsell2676 agreed, I was saying that last week. The other option is UPS tries to call our bluff and break the teamsters but that would likely take over a month and a strike that long would severely cripple them. I don’t see the shareholders going for that.

…this MUST be Saturday Night Live… the very idea of management trying to cover 320,000 jobs… Completely bonkers… In early 80s, Philip Morris, owners of MillerBrewing, tried to run a Millers plant, during a Strike, when the brewers reentered their work space, they saw, Managers had crushed two vertical tanks… damage from those destroyed tanks, back then, was 1/4 million dollars each tank… I’m guessing that’s not even close to the damage done to the entire plant…

What was the union asking for i was curious

Half the supervisors are only supervisors because they've had some sort of surgery because they over asserted themselves trying to prove something! So, yeah I'd love to see management hack it for longer than a day...lol It's not happening!

There’s not even a quarter the amount of supervisors as there are drivers at my building. They’ve been trying to train the managers who take calls for missing packages that don’t know a thing about driving. This will be a disaster.

They tried that in 97’ packages piled up, got out of control so fast. Not enough manpower. No way No how. It got so bad, they had to come to an agreement. The workers never win. Amazon will bury them and take volume away, post office can’t handle it. Fed ex couldn’t handle the overage. It was so bad, packages just shoved in trucks no organization - managers went out to look good, it was just show. Came back to building, hardly delivered anything.

United in solidarity! At Comcast cable we tried to join cwa back in 2006. Upper management and there union busters came to Aberdeen Maryland office chest puffed out arms crossed. A vote did happen but it failed.

I walked the picket lines with my mom for c&p telephone before Verizon back in 1988/89. I still remember striking workers concerned about paying household bills. But the workers were determined to get a fair contract and they did eventually. United people are powerful!!

Can’t wait to see mgngmt run 250 stops in the August heat while I’m sipping coldies under a canopy with the grill and playing cornhole waving at peeps in the community that have our back.
