UPHEAVAL | COSMIC HORROR | OFFICIAL SHORT ANIMATION FILM | 2023
Фильм және анимация
“The shivering whispers of a thousand prayers accusing their gods to relieve them from overwhelming and eternal darkness. A world in agony facing the truth, the lack of a divine being to retrieve their souls. And as their scream become silent a bleak veil drips down to earth and slowly turns to peaceful silence”
Zephid Realm - UPHEAVAL
--------------------------------------------
Upheaval is a dystopian visual journey into a world of cosmic horror, filled with darkness and chaos. Drawing on the lore of the Zephid cult, this short film interprets the arrival and birth of the Last Traveller, an invasive, dark entity that uses planets as hosts and breeding grounds to give birth to its matter of chaos. The born swarm intelligence takes over the surface of the planets, plunging all previous life into destruction and chaos. The Traveller and its Matter of Chaos are the beginning of an unstoppable cycle that will take over the entire universe in billions of years.

real horror , doesnt involve such
This has to be one of the most hypnotic and disturbing films that I have ever seen. The visuals, music, tension and the explicable inexplicability of it all. Everything in this feels otherworldly. Like, nothing as such have we ever seen, nor we expect to see in real life. Without defined characters, backstories and screaming nuns, this mere 10-20 minute short film took me through various intensities of fear and terror. Such KZread content creators are setting new benchmarks for cinematic depiction of Cosmic Horror. Sheer masterpiece. 🤩🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️

What i understand is this.... so the worlds divine entity has abandoned them for unknown reasons. They have been overtaken by some "alien" or creature ( the black water stuff that morphing different shapes)... it somehow lives or combines itself somewhat with humans. It even makes different parts (organs) like the beating heart which was inserted.... after a certain amount of people are "made" on the assembly line it brings them to the area where that powerful alien with the 3 bright lights basically rips them apart.... idk why? So i think maybe the killed mutated people are reincarnated back to just be made again and destroyed... or it was just a one time thing... but the creature at the end seems like he xollects or destroys the actual soul... at first i thought the thing at the end with the lights might have been their god who abandoned them but has returned to collect their souls like it shoild have so they can rest in peace... but i think it wasnt their god... just a part of this weird species that seems to live off our pain or destruction..... anyway hope this clears it up... watch it again and maybe what i think happened will make sense. I could be wrong AF tho lol
What an absolutely masterful animation, it's so encapsulating, I crave more like this! And it's actually astonishing this work of art isn't in the millions of views, criminally underrated! In less than 10 minutes you were able to create a more suspenseful and captivating horror than most of the genre in recent years! Your work warrants so much more praise and recognition than a measly few thousand, and I'd love to see you go far with your work! Bravo!

DO NOT see this on magic mushrooms, or other strong hallucinogens. Something this evil needs to stay inside the screen and not be allowed to inhabit your head. DO watch this under the darkest conditions possible; otherwise you'll miss half of the impressive rendering and detail, painted in a dozen "shades of black", just because of some screen glare. For me, it conjured up Cthulhu imagery and lore, the music video of "Sober" (by Tool) and the prologue to (the Alien franchise film) Prometheus... although I'm sure the creator's mind inhabits far darker places than these, in order to put in the countless hours to bring such an impressive work to fruition!

Somehow it didn't feel evil to me. Unnerving, sure. Repulsive, definitely. But the whole sequence of events felt very apathetic and mechanical. Like whatever needed to be done was no more malevolent than a hurricane or a swarm of locusts. Disastrous not cruel. So very Lovecraftian in tone as his works did focus on the absolute insignificance of earth and humanity in the face of some cosmic entity just going about its business. So not Lovecraftian itself but certainly inspired by.

This is something I have seen in my Nightmares and of which I wrote poetry long ago about such things. I couldn't give the visual until now and watching this was very difficult. I felt like I was going to have a panic attack! I couldn't feel comfortable! Whoever made this animation has a terrifying gift to cause extreme unease, fathomless fear, and yet a fascination with the darkness, to uncover your own Hell.

I realize that this desire is like a self-administered gunshot to the foot, it being the case that a beautiful presentation so heavily imbued with abstraction and mystery ought be pondered by the viewer and perhaps reviewed a few times until a fairly concrete idea of what's just been shown us can be formulated. After all, therein lies most of the fun, right? But I have to admit, I would LOVE to read that screenplay.

I think either monologue or something like that is needed to make this work. Lovecraft tended to portray horror not by actually portraying it but by showing the insanity of the people that did see it. Lovecraftian horror lives from the horrors being undescribable which is hard to portray for sure. What really creates the tention is seeing witnesses go insane.

@@epimisti I’m the same way. I like the visuals but I spent most of the video waiting for some sort of explanation on what was happening. I think what would’ve worked was some sort of twist at the end, I like to think the planet that’s shown is earth millions of years after some sort of eldritch demon or something conquered the world and started using our bodies as breeding machines. But that’s the point. Cosmic horror needs some sort of human element to compare the incomprehensible with. Even if the fear is in what you don’t know, there needs to be a surface so we can say that we’ve barely scratched the surface. This video looks great and the visuals are pretty ominous but without a concept, they’re just visuals
An absolute true vision of what Hell is like for real.😢

Amazing
So, a spaceship looking like an echinoderm lands on Earth. We don't know when, but they are lovely-carved wooden boats and a lot of fog. In the urchin-ship, a fluffy alien with a flash light does something. Simultaneously, an anthropomorphic shape is being made. But somehow the creation process has been messed up, and they have to add a cardiac pump at the last minute. The humanoid is stored in the same drawer as the others. The fluffy alien plays with the flash light again. The humanoids are eventually dissolved in thin air, and the urchin-ship leave Earth while spooky Lovecraftians adjectives are uttered. It's visually cool. Nice.
