UPGRADING THE NAVIGATION MAPS ON 2016-2019 LEXUS RX SUV

Updating the Navi Maps on the Lexus RX is quite simple. Make sure you have at least 20 minutes before you attempt to go update the maps. DO NOT turn off the vehicle engine anytime when the maps are being installed or updated.
Before starting, best to check which version of the Navi maps on the vehicle before starting the update. Power on the vehicle, go to Setup then General then Software Update then Update to check.
1) With the vehicle off, remove the old MicroSD card and replace it with the new microSD card.
2) Install the maps onto the navigation system
3) Update the maps on the navigation system
4) Verify the release after the update.
For the model years: 2016 to 2019 Lexus RX 350/450, the Navigation maps are PT219-GEN09-21 (2021 MAP MSD GEN9) for purchase in 2022 edition. Maps are 2021 data. The maps sell for $210 + Shipping + tax. Search around if the dealers sells higher than $250. Should be around that price.
Please note that the Navi maps will likely work on the 2016-2020 Lexus GS 350 vehicles as well.
** Always check with the dealer with VIN # ** to confirm before purchasing.
These maps may work with some models of the Toyota vehicle also.

Lexus should just make the map free to download instead of making money on them since using GPS been free ever since its inception.

Lexus doesn't make the maps. There's lots of effort to make the maps. If everyone starts working for free and companies doesn't make money (non-profit).
Just got the 2022 version from a Lexus dealer online $210. My local dealer wanted $500 to purchase and install. Great video

I have a 2019 RX and installed after market carplay module for less than $300. Definitely worth it. Lexus original navigation is like a black/white TV while everyone using a LED TV.

There are tons of aftermarket ones. Lexus can void the electrical warranty if done wrong.

Which after market CarPlay module did you use? I have the 2016 RX and would love to upgrade to Apple car play because the Lexus system is basically useless.

@@joseph12566check out Beat Sonic or Nifty City. I have the Nifty City CarPlay installed in my 2019 GS350. No issues.
I'm wondering where you purchased your map upgrade. Per the Lexus website, the very latest is dated 2018! If you did get it from a dealer, please let me know exactly which dealer you used! FYI, I have a 2019 RX-450h. I'm frustrated that I can't seem to locate map data newer than originally installed. My 2011 Edge has annual updates (I usually only get one every 2nd or 3rd year). Thanks for any help!

yw, I purchased it at the Lexus dealer. Best to have the VIN#, year and model. You can try Bell Lexus. They can get the part # and price for your vehicle.
I have a 2019 es-350 is it same process

I have 2018 RX, very frustrating not to be able to use the navigation system. Pls where can I get the SD card?? Dealership it will cost me about $400.00 to upgrade to the newest navigation system..sad sad

They asked me $400 for one at Lexus Kendall for a 2019 Lexus RX 450h F Sport that I just bought. The salesman I bought it from told me to go to service because he didn't know. Next, he told that I had a 2 year-bumper-to-bumper-warranty that covers it. The same manager told me to use my phone. I asked him why would I do that. It is safer to use the navigation system of the car instead that of my phone. Iwill ask to speak to the manager when I go back to pick up the car.
Hmmm I dont have that SD card compartment on mine. It's a 2020 fwiw, but it has carplay so I guess not that important

I think you'll need to get the software thru Lexus dealer to get the real one.

It's impossible to troubleshoot over internet. Need a tech to look at it or speakers not connected.
What does it actually update? Half the time the system doesn't understand me. It's built very poorly. Unfortunately no simple way of getting android auto on this unit. So frustrating.

Just updates the GPS maps with newer maps. The other parts, talk to your dealer.
If you have flashdrive with mp3 incerted remove it before you start this process!

Yes but it's probably best to get the latest map. Check with the dealer on purchasing that update.

Per my understanding face-lift no longer have the sd card slot. Meaning year 2020 and above..
I bought my wife a 2019 rx350. There was no sd card and the previous owner took the card when sold to Carmax. What do I need to do to get her GPS working in her car?

Complain to CarMax. Everything on your car should work. I made complaints to them about Shocks, Bumper Trim, Missing Plastic Fasteners and a odor in the carpet. They fixed it all free. Have to stand your ground.

When in 2023 or years after for the model you want to update it, it’s the same process.

Not that I would ever find a used card in a junked car, but would a used card from a junkyard work? I assume not since I don't see used ones for sale.

Nope, buy a new one from Lexus for the latest maps. Junkyard ones maybe outdated also.

If I pull out the SD card and bought another 2017 RX350 that needed a map update. Will this SD card update my replacement 2017 RX350?
How does you get the dvd to work?

It's not simple on the Lexus. I think you'll need a computer for that.
