It's me again, Curt. Enjoyed your last. I love to see how you are both in love with each other and are living life to the fullest. Hope all your 'instamentation' is covered by your youtube following. My twenty foot O'Day sailboat wasn't big enough for a wheel. I'll be with you as you proceed to Alaska. Please don't go past the Aleutians though or you might get pulled over by the Rooskies and accused of being spies. I have friends who are trying to get their new motor sailor from Japan to the Aleutians. Stay tuned folks..lol. ❤❤

Hoping to untie the lines here in the next day or so, but it looks like we have 30knot headwinds until then! Really looking forward to taking the boat further this szn, she’s looking better than she’s been in a long time, cheers!

I serviced the wheel steering system on our Cat 30 every year by brushing some grease on the sheaves and steel cable. We had to adjust the angle of our cable sheaves, they were slightly off. After greasing I wiped down the cables and sheaves. We did not have that rusted back plate, that looked strange, I believe we had a brass looking back plate. You did an A1 job getting rid off the wheel steering !

Ahoy Allison & James 🤙🏼 missed watching your videos and glad to be here for another season. Had to pause the video to type this as I got a great laugh at how casually James expresses that the tiller pilot worked was “ Skookum “ …. Love it ! Wish I was there as a buddy boat but not quite there yet. Getting slowly closer though . As always, fair winds and calm gentle anchorages ⛵️

Well, thanks for another episode. I'm following quite a few of the sailing channels. And lately yours have become one of my favourite. Thank You Glad to see You're upgrading your boat. Tiller steering has always been one of the most reliable in this field, I think. Thank You for pointing out all the Pros and Cons. If You don't mind my 2 cents, You can always steer your boat by having your tiller between your legs and basically using your hands for doing something else. Sounds like a very handy technique for docking / leaving a dock, tacking, jybing, You name it )))) James, I'm impressed with your repairing tricks. Again))) Good stuff I'm glad You like your new autopilot. Having watched quite a bit on this platform, I'd like to point out that these devices are prone to water penetration unfortunately... So, You may want to completely cover your new baby with some kind of waterproof sleeve (plastic?) Looking forward to your new adventures! Fair winds, following seas, and calm anchorages )))

Raymarine doesnt make as much miney in each tiller autopilots, but they makeup for it by selling you many of them over time. From what i’ve seen, you really need to keep them dry with a cover so they dont fail from salt water

hahah yes you might be onto something there! We've definitely seen and heard from folks that these are maybe not 'top quality' and tend to crap out sooner than one might like! Will look into some plastic protection. Lucky for us not much salt water crashes into the cockpit here in the calm waters of the inside passage so should hopefully hold up this szn

Our Noordam Captain got scared when getting close to a Glacier as there were 100's of good size Garage sized icebergs drifted around so he apologized and turned around. The tides can be huge like 20 feet+ and get even higher when 30 knot wind blows into the long Inlets as it was in our case. ( I am not kidding) Take good care !

Also do you have a link for the tablet holder you used. Cheers! One final question will you be able to open the lazarette with the bar for the auto pilot . It appears on the episode you can’t. Cheers again.

A handy instrument to install in the near future! The bar on the bracket for the autopilot twists off so it can be removed easily to get into the lazarette or for example, if you had folks sitting around in the cockpit who aren't keen to have a bar in their back! Here is the link for the tablet holder we purchased on Amazon! amzn.to/4bfFDHt It's an affiliate link so any purchases using this link will support our project. I'll link to it in the description.
