I love to see how much bigger their tank is and how cute they are! Although just so you know, the mesh is meant to hold the dirt from getting into the rock layer and that mesh is far too wide, you need smaller holed mesh. BUT I think with the springtails and everything, it'll probably be okay, just be careful if it starts to smell rotten because that's soil going putrid from sitting in water. The tank should smell like a wet forest, not like anything rotten. SerpaDesigns has some really good videos on making bioactive terrariums with snails, isopods and other animals, if you want more info on how tank bottoms work. You really take such good care of your snails. I love your channel!

I kinda stacked the mesh a bit so I’m hoping that maybe it was stacked enough to hold the dirt up. I’m not seeing too much dirt in the rock layer but I’ll def make sure to keep smelling it. Right now it just smells like a wet forest! Thanks for the advice 💓

Don’t get springtails get pill bugs instead! Springtails are known to rapidly breed out of control and because they are so small and can jump pretty far they also are known for escaping tanks and then infesting homes! Pill bugs are bigger, can’t jump, don’t breed as much, and also eat all the left over food scraps! I hope I explained well enough 😊

springtales cant survive in a dry enviroment so depending on where u live, (I maybe wrong my source is Serpa Design) they dont escape much because they are already in their most ideal enviroment but if they do they die pretty quickly. I have two piggies- boys- and they live well together so far in their 6’x2’ C&C cage. They are 11 months and 3 months old and have been together for about a month. Maybe you could collect photos or short video clips from people showing their floor time? I don’t know what goes into a “good” floor time. How do I cage them in easily? What is easiest to put on the floor to catch the “gifts” they leave us? Do they need hidies and tunnels or anything else? Also, does the set up need to change each time? How often do they need floor time? How long should each session be? I kind of need to know the least amount that is still good for them because I live with chronic pain from a car accident and I don’t last too long each time I get busy. Could this possibly be a video? Thank you!

If its something you want in the future you could also get isopods :)) they do pretty much the same thing as the springtails but they come in pretty patterns and are fun to look at

Can anyone tell me why all my springtails and isopods died in my bio active I had a lot of leaf litter in and on top of the soil and my frog was a pooping machine so there was a lot of stuff for them to eat/break down. The lack of isopods and springtails in my bio active caused bacteria from the poop to build up and kill my frog. So if anyone knows why this happened I would love to learn why so I dont make the same mistake again. Thanks

Are the springtails not going to be stuck under the mesh by the rock?

Very good video. I have 5 garden snails for 3 months now. They've laid eggs and I haven't touched them. However, my snails are hiding in a rock that has an open. They were very active when I first got them from outside but now they come out occasionally to eat. Please explain their behavior. Oh by the way my grandson found them and he lost interest in them so I've been taking care of them.

I went from glass to plastic and I am already going back to glass because it's absolutely horribly trying to get their poopies off the side of plastic and scratches it beyond belief.
