I have the same setup headphones, interface and pre-amp, with a rode podmic. It is important to note, the audient evo is awkward to mount if you're trying to get it off your desk surface. I wish they had moved everything from the top, to the front; or at least flush-mounted the big dial so you could actually see all the dial lights when sitting back.

Great video. Nice change of pace for this channel. Audient Evo 4 is excellent, you made a great choice. At that price point it makes most similarly priced consumer sound interfaces utterly pointless. I recommend it to anyone who wants a simple but good quality option to move away from on board audio. I have a pair of HD650s that are close to 15yrs old now. Fantastic headphones, the Sennheiser are a little "warm", especially the HD650. The HD580Jubilee/Hd600/hd58X/HD6XX are a bit more neutral but I the 650s are still very neutral. The MassDrop versions are such a good value, I got mine before Sennheiser started enforcing MAP heavily for about $350 and the HD6XX are far cheaper than that. Nice setup.

I use the Evo 4 as well, had since launch it's been pretty good. I intially went with the focusrite solo, but had stablity problems with it at all buffer sizes. One problem I found with the Evo 4 is that it does not like being in a USB hub for those interested, when powered by a hub phantom power wont always turn on. It's also worth noting the Evo can be used standalone without the use of a computer whilst the focusrite scarletts have to be connected up before the preamps kick in. Paired with an Aston Stealth it's a great little setup. The stealth has a gain lifter built in just supply the 48v and you get +40dB of gain or so.

great setup. I'm surprised that interface needs an inline preamp for the sm7b. Could you not just boost the mic in post (can also be done for live streaming)? That interface has 58db gain EIN -127db, that should be enough. Also the sm7b sounds very good out of the box I agree but at least a bass cut somewhere between 40 - 80 might be a good idea, at least, it might make it more pleasant for people with good headphones who are listening, nothing in that range needs to be heard anyway.

The Sure SM7B cut out so much of the room echo that the Rode mic was picking up! Really obvious when you do the side by side comparison, but your old videos still sounded good on the Rode mic, so I guess it's just a nice-to-have upgrade. A cheaper alternative to the Sure would be the Rode Podmic - should also work well in an untreated room, but for a few hundred $ less. Would probably still need the Dynamite stick though.

One thing to keep in mind about the Audient Evo4 is its high output impedance on the headphone out, around 20 ohms. Generally your headphone impedance should be 8x this figure to avoid frequency response fluctuations outside of spec. The HD58x are okay given their 150 ohm impedance. However some lower impedance ‘cans may not be.

This may be a decent product for what it's intended to do which is a analog to digital input converter with headphone monitoring, but if you are primarily using this for headphone output, you should look elsewhere. For your 150 ohms HD58X the Evo 4 can only dump about 30-40 mW of power into them which not enough to wake up those drivers. Even worse is that the output impedance is 50 ohms which is crazy high for a headphone amp. According to the 1/8th rule (look it up) you would need headphones with an input impedance of 400 ohms to not encounter huge issues, reduced expected volume, and horrible driver damping leading to very loose bass, namely. If you mainly need a good headphone dac/amp with an mic input, look at the Schiit Fulla (over 3 times the power of the Evo 4 with an output impedance of 0.5 ohms) or the new Hel.

I use Beyerdynamic 1770 pro open headset 250 ohms, Focusright 2i2 Usb Audio Interface, x2 Krk active Rokit gen-4 8s, Krk 10" Active Sub with Passthrough to monitors. Blue Microphones Yeti using XLR to TRS. Also use Ableton Live for making tracks. I also have Astro A50 PS4 edition to use for PC, for quick 7.1 sounds. But essentially a DAC is important for me, when using My Pioneer Audio interface to connect to my Pioneer PLX 1000 Turntables for warm needle crisp analogue sound.

Here's a set up that can achieve the same thing for much less. The only thing that I find absolutely essential is the Audient Evo 4 is because of how insanely quiet its preamp is. So much so that you don't even need a mic booster preamp even if you have a 280 ohm dynamic microphone. - Audient Evo 4 - $120 - Behringer XM8500 - $20 - Klark Teknik CM-1 - $30 - Philips SHP9500 - $75

I really enjoy your content! Not sure if this is possible but... I currently use steel series wireless headphones and was looking to try something different. I have the audient evo 4, moondrop snow IEMs, and a Shure MV7 mic. I just dunno how to set it all up for gaming on my pc. I'm pretty illiterate lol. Was curious if you could do a possible step by step video with a breakdown for some help. Thanks!!

First of all, I really like your content and it helped me several times in the past with certain purchase decisions. Thanks for that! I understand why you choose this setup given the functionality it offers for your use. However, in my opinion (as a sound engineer and also an owner of the SM7B/PSA1 and a HD650), I think that the price ratio of the products seems off-balance. I mean, the Evo4 is a good interface for its price of approx. $100, but to pair it with an SM7B (a $400 mic) even with a sE DM1 Dynamite to boost the gain (another $100), you're not using the SM7B to its full potential. Of course, it will work with sufficient gain, but the SM7B can sound much better with a better mic pre-amp than the one built-in a $100 interface like the Evo4. And I am not basing this solely on the price of the Evo4, but because for a certain application, I am using the Evo4 at work for remote sports commentary, therefore I know how the Evo4 sounds from my own experience. The reason why I am responding to this, is that people might get the false impression that the balance of the combination of products is good price/performance wise, while you could either save some money by not buying the SM7B if paired with the Evo4 (get a cheaper mic, e.g. Rode Procaster, Podcaster etc that would be used more to its full potential), or either spend more on a good external preamp or an interface that gets the most out of the SM7B. I hope this helps someone who is considering buying a similar setup for gaming/streaming. All the best!

Audio followed by display is the most important, assuming you have acceptable enough peripherals. Essentially you should upgrade your computer to keep up with your monitor. Still waiting on those next gen panels to fall in price so I can pick one up before the DDR5 upgrade cycle.

Julian Krause and Podcastage are 2 superb KZreadrs when it comes to audio interfaces and microphones. Julian Krause actually did a test of several different audio interfaces focusing simply on the headphone port and the Audient Evo 4 scored 3rd place so it's a good pick! You also have Z reviews if you need to get into headphones and speakers. Also wanna throw Booth Junkie in here because he also knows his stuff. So 4 fantastic KZreadrs for people who want to dive deeper into it. :)

The SM7b not only requires a ton of gain you'd also want to compress the crap out of the signal to get an even level. It's a bit funny seeing everyone buy it just because everyone else is buying it. It's one of the greatest vocal mics ever made, James Hetfield's and Michael Jackson's goto... you just need outboard gear to make it reach it's potential. You can do that with a UAD interface before it hits anything else in your computer or analog gear.
