    Our sanctuary is not large, roughly 40' x 75'. Without going into lots of detail and reasons why, we needed something far better than a projector & screen. We priced an LED wall, but it was too much. We went with an 85" LED TV. The results were/are outstanding! Granted, a larger sanctuary would need something bigger than 85" (hence, a video wall), which is one reason this video by Collaborate Worship is so helpful.

    Thanks so much for posting this information. I've not had luck finding installation and cost information in my own searches. We recently put lots of money into better a projector and screen but are plagued by ambient light as well as a window behind the screen, both causing poor on-screen images. I recently saw an LED screen in use in another church and was blow away with its color and brightness. Your info here will put us on a practical path to solve our issue!! And at first look here, it appears we can put in 2 (left and right sides) LED screens for nearly what we paid for a large projector, custom lens and new retractable screen.

    If the projector moves from drum kicks, you can just add a heavy weight to the projector mount. The more the better but I would suggest 50lbs or so. Of course you need to beef up the mount to hold the weight but more inertia = less movement. As for the building moving in the wind, can't help you there. Hope your roof doesn't blow off in the next storm!

    When we were after a new system, one crowd wanted to do a video wall out of 4 LCD panels, I took a picture of the are as seen from the back and then superimposed the screens on it, it was plain to see their proposal was not going to cut it. I converted their screen size to the number of bricks on the wall, the counted them off in the photo to get the scaling right. from the back of was frighteningly small, a downgrade from our old 4x3 twin halogen projector. neat $1K per lamp by two - yikes...

    Our projector tends to vibrate a bit when the front (ceiling-located) A/C unit kicks in. Being in San Antonio that happens quite a bit, so we've added some cushioning to minimize the vibrations. One day I hope to have the budget to get rid of it completely and move to something like this... :)

    We are currently running an Epson laser based projector, it is mounted off a side wall, and the only time we have any issues is with strong winds that move it about a touch, although the fact that a brick wall is moving is of more concern than the image bouncing a touch. Actually our biggest woe is our livestream where we use a pair of PTZ IP cams, the lag in the video is a right pain, we try and delay the audio to match but they always drift, so wide-ish shots are better as the crap lip-sync is less obvious.

    Great job with this video. Our church meets in a movie theater and we use their projector and screen. Their projectors cost over $30K each... I wonder if this will be the next wave for theaters too? You only briefly touched on the rest of the hardware and software involved to run the screen and the movie business has pretty tight security on their films. They are delivered electronically and you need an electronic key to open and play them from the projector software. Just curious how that would work with this LED Wall tech. So cool! Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • @collabworship

    It's a lot more simple than you think, especially for a smaller one with only 15 panels like ours. Just run your feed to the video processor, and then the video processor sends the stitched image to the panels via 2 ethernet cables. That's the only other hardware you need besides the panels themselves. Software is only needed to setup the processor, then it's good to go on it's own. I was wondering the same thing when I was at a movie theater the other day! With as close as you sit in a theater and as big as the screen is, you'd need a really tight pixel pitch. I imagine were a ways out before that becomes viable for movie theaters. It would be super cool though! - Dillon

    As someone who runs / works with a LED Screen hire company, best advice is to get your processor set up and run a test pattern, we use a colour swipe. Whilst your test pattern is running, build each row and check to make sure that there are no pixels out etc…. LED Screens are the way to go.

    As someone who just rebuilt our new LED wall for the 3rd time (1st time was fresh install and my lack of knowledge with LED panels) this would have saved us soo much time. I made some short jump cables and was able to test each panel one by one while we rebuilt our mounting rig (the first attempt was wonky and was visually distracting). We still have some panels that don't work completely but we used the best panels and set aside the rest to rebuild as backups.

    At a church building in the south east US, the projector mount was attached to the metal roof truss. During the heat of the day, it moved enough to move the image off the screen. You mentioned the church being rented out as an event center. That sounds like a great way to bring outside revenue into the church without taxing the members' wallets. What type of events do you rent out for and do you have any specific restrictions for the renters?

  • @collabworship

    @collabworship

    7 ай бұрын

    It's worked out really well. Covers all of the building expenses. On top of that, it provides some extra income for some of our church members that we hire to clean for the event center. We've had all kinds of events hosted there, but don't put very many restrictions on the renters. Birthday parties, corporate events, wedding receptions, and even other churches use our building. Just the obvious things like "don't move certain things" or "don't mess with certain tech" or "only use command strips to attach decorations to walls". When it comes down to it, people are looking to rent the building, not a church. So you have to accommodate the same way that any other event venue would for it to be successful. Obviously we ask about the details of their event and have the power to tell them "no, we won't rent to you for that kind of event" but that scenario has been very rare. Opening your space up to other people and organizations definitely introduces some headaches, but nothing that makes it not worth it.

    so we installed an LED screen and it looks great. the problem is that when we shoot video, it shows flickering and strobing. On our SONY cams, we've fixed it. But on our Canon EOS R, we can't seem to get rid of it. Any tips?

  • @collabworship

    @collabworship

    Жыл бұрын

    We found that it really comes down to the proper frame rate. Ours seems to look the best at an even number frame rate like 30fps (as opposed to 29.97fps). We have tried our EOS R in our room and it's very limited in its HDMI out capabilities. Could never fine-tune it enough to get flickering to go away. Now we use a black magic studio 4k, and the HDMI out reflects whatever the camera is set to capture. Much more versatile. Also has more frame rate options to choose from as opposed to canon cameras. I'm assuming that if you're not having issues with the Sony, then it's probably sending a proper frame rate through the HDMI. Do a frame rate test on both cameras and see if you can find one they'll both output and not cause flicker. You'll probably also want to check framerates in your chain of capturing from the camera to your live stream software. Make sure everything is set properly.

    Rigging the way we did - The super struts, nuts, bolts, chain, odds and ends - Probably came out to between $300 and $400. No labor cost in that since we did it ourselves. Super struts are currently pretty high, so that accounted for a lot of it. With install of the new outlets, we had electricians do that and they charged a couple hundred bucks. Rough estimates for ya. I don't have all the receipts handy to add it all up exactly. Hope that helps! -Dillon

Support, quality and life expectancy will make you regret something like this later. There is a saying “buy your second LED wall first” because it’s not the worth the hassle you’ll be having soon. We have those moments quite often at our church as well. We turn off the LED wall. The only lights on are our warm white lights. Acoustic guitar, piano, vocals, and simple hymns. We love it!

    odd when a church has a useful video to learn something EDIT: Nevermind..."on a budget" means on an exploitive business model (aka - church) budget.

    "Exploitive" is a strange choice of words lol. We didn't take advantage of anybody or do anything unfair for our own gain. We just presented the info as we had it. Transparent with the fact that we got a discount for making the video. We aren't forcing anybody to buy one; we even showed the prices you would pay at the beginning of the video. We were gonna buy one before we even talked to them about a partnership. "Budget" is up for interpretation. Not much we can do about that. That word means different things to every church. We were just looking at it relatively.

    Funny how worship has become a theatrical production, with more attention to audio/video systems....how things look and sound instead of reaching out and helping the poor and disenfranchised.

    It doesn't have to be one or the other. The church can be served well while we help the poor. We serve the God of more than enough.

    Hey Edward - If you watched some of our services, you'd find out that we are far from an entertainment center. The projector/screen is simply a tool we use to help us serve the church and preach the gospel.

    Lights, led walls, and haze are just the modern version of stained glass windows. There is literally no difference. The relative cost is even similar.
