People don't understand that you don't mic drums to make them louder, you mic the drums to pull out the energy and the tones you want, just like Kade said!

Or you just get better sounding drums and don’t amp everything up. Is this really honoring God? Turning worship, contemplation, learning, and meditation into a Rock concert? Isn’t God in the quiet places? Or is this all trying to stimulate a synthesis emotional response, like one gotten earlier in faith? One that hasn’t matured because it never had time to grow in peace, bombarded by synthetic sounds. It all just inspires pity.

At 6:18, he says having a double sub on one side is more even in this small space. He's absolutely right and the reason for that has to do with the wavelength of the bass frequencies and the size of the room. For example, a 40Hz sound wave takes ~28 feet for one single full wavelength. At 1:42, he mentions the room is only 30 feet wide, so you're only getting just over one full wavelength of deep bass across the width of the room. To oversimplify, let's compare that to two subs on each side of a stage, set 14 feet apart. Those two subs would be one half wavelength apart at 40Hz. This means that standing along a line in the middle of the room, the bass from each sub would cancel out the other. Of course, room acoustics (reflections, etc) play a role in all these bouncing sound waves too, so if we were to place those subs directly in the middle, the reflections off each wall at ~15 feet away would cancel out the bass near the wall, but amplify the bass in the middle; again leading to uneven sound. The takeaway from all this is that in a small space, you're much better off having subs only on one side.

Our church, has a similar layout to this, at least in size, for our sanctuary, with the exception of the fact that there's two semi triangular shaped rooms one on either side of the stage, so you have a bit of a straight wall and a bit of a angle wall with doors facing the congregation as well as on the stage itself, and we also have a bit of a electrical room towards the back that juts out into the space a bit, just enough for a door to fit so that the heater and air conditioning and whatever else might have at one point been in there had a place to be, but other than that, it's just a standard straight rectangle for the most part, and we don't have Mic's on our drums, and never have to be honest... Another thing is that we just have a single monitor speaker, we used to have two monitor speakers, but we think one got accidentally sold at one of our church missions garage sales somehow, so we're only using one monitor speaker channel or whatever you want to call it... We have it set up for both monitor speaker one and two to be able to be used, but we only have the one speakers so if we wanted to add another one we could but because we don't have one it's as simple as buying one if we wanted... Since we don't use microphones on the drums or in your monitors I do kind of wonder whether in your monitors or drums are really that necessary, especially since we're not using a online setup like some places do. The reason we're not doing an online worship service as well as the in-person worship service, is that our pastor feels that with the online service more people would not show up and would just donate money online while watching on their phone or their computer versus having butts in seats, and when you have it most 30 or 40 people on any given Sunday, I can understand where he's coming from, because obviously if you take those 40 people and have 30 of them staying home, then that leaves only 10 people to be "in the picture" so to speak... One thing that I do Wonder though, is the fact that we use a telephone service to broadcast and record our services, over telephone conference call, and we just have a Bluetooth microphone speaker setup placed in front of our monitor speaker for getting the audio to the phone, and I myself was wondering if there was a different or a better way of doing that than using a conference call Bluetooth speaker, by hooking directly into the x32 compact or something like that with the apple/android phones, either by headphone out or some kind of aux out cable, or other kind of technological sorcery I don't know about? We don't go so far as turning the services into podcasts or anything, we just keep the mp3s we're sent to our emails just in case someone misses a Sunday, and go from there. Also, we don't, for whatever reason, use subwoofers, unless you count the 2 (I'm assuming full range) speakers hanging from the ceiling... To be honest, some of this stuff listed in this video I would love to have, like having the drums Mic'd up but unfortunately that would add much more complexity than what our church really wants to have, and to add to that, our drummer is somewhat handicapped in such a way that I don't know if microphones would interfere or not, with our usual way of doing things... Our x32 compact is fairly new only a couple of years old, and was installed by a professional installer, as well as the wiring that was redid, but I almost wish we had an actual professional sound person to come in and do an EQ on a Sunday morning to more properly set up all the advanced settings and things that the x32 has for the individual channels and stuff, because how we normally do things at our church, is once everything is set up, somebody just runs the single channel sliders up and down till it gets to where they want it on any given Sunday, and then when I come in to do my job I then only have very minor adjustments if any at all that need to be made with the sound volume, and usually only on the wireless mic for the guest and the pastor's over the ear mic, while focusing my main attention on the SongShowPlus application for putting up the scriptures on the screen or the music lyrics or what have you else, or on the rare occasions where we have a PowerPoint that may or may not do the same or different functions, outside of PowerPoints normal usage of being a Sunday morning style events slideshow where all the news whether it's upcoming events or the current basket offering would get put along with other things like the guest Wi-Fi password

Regarding the issue on the hi pass filter, my personal experience is it depends on the sound system you're using, and specially is you have subs or not.

Hi brother in Christ, I have a technical sound question and I know that there must be a solution out there somewhere. I have seen hundreds of small church's which livestream online and many of them all seem to have the same sound problem with both analog and digital mixing boards. The problem which I have come across time and time again is that many of these small church's have brilliant audio for the worship team but the sound from the Pastors microphone when he is preaching is always very quiet and it's difficult to hear what he's teaching? what is the solution how do you connect audio for both Pastor and worship team while livestreaming? Blessings and thanks Gareth

Question: from Overland Hills Church in Papillion, NE! We have a Behringer X32, and 6 P16’s. For our Keyboard, we are using a Yamaha CP 4. The problem/question is: I routed the keyboard to channel 14 in the P16’s but no matter what we do, we cannot control the volume on that channel for the keyboard. It’s always loud. The only way to control it is a balance between the main keyboard volume knob, gain on the X32. Thoughts? Help? Thanks! -Paul

Yo, a thick sound curtain will do nothing for absorbing the sound from the toms and kickdrum. It's possible the actual physics of the room is great for low frequency, but the curtain has nothing to do with it.
