A modern church stage design idea (and how we did it)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We recently created a new stage design for the worship center stage, and this video shares where the inspiration came from, the different stages of how we built it and how we safely secured it to the stage and the building structure. I think it creates a great modern look (even with our dated red carpet!), and it wasn’t terribly hard to pull off.
This video covers:
* Where we got the inspiration for the new stage design
* How we used theatre production of flats using luan for our church design
* Using styrofoam ball halves in grid pattern design
* Safely framing and supporting a church stage design
* What we might do differently in the future
The idea wasn’t our own. In fact, we can’t even say we were the second or third person to try it. This and many other great stage design ideas can be found at this great website:
churchstagedesignideas.com
Andrew Hunt and his team at Blue Ridge Community Church in Forest, VA were the first to share this idea with the Church Stage Design Ideas website:
churchstagedesignideas.com/bi...
Laura Blechle and others from White Flag Christian Church in St. Louis, MO built on this idea to come up with this:
churchstagedesignideas.com/no...
This is where we purchased the 3 1/4” styrofoam ball halves:
www.smoothfoam.com/product/10...
Something not mentioned in the video specifically, but these are the color bars we use to light the panels:

If you build a stage design inspired by this design, snap a photo of it and tag me in it (@davedolphinok). I’d love to see it!

This looks great! I think my production team is going to attempt something like this soon. I do have a quick question, though - are you hitting your panels from the floor and from above with your LED lights? Or just from the floor? I'm a little worried about getting enough light to cover the entire panel, and we'd be left with just some white balls near the top, hah. Awesome job, and great video!

Hey Matt! It’s all just up-lighting. Each panel has a color bar at the bottom pointing upwards. You can see-especially in the video thumbnail-there’s a hot spot towards the bottom section of each panel. But it does cover the entire panel. If you try this, send a few pics my way. I’d love to see it!

They are the Chauvet COLORband T3 BT. We like them because you can set them up into three different zones to make some color gradients across the set and they also don't flicker on video (which can be a problem with cheaper LED fixtures). amzn.to/30Tcvm0

It does look very interesting, but I would have to ask this: what does this have to do with worship? I have noticed that many churches are leaning too much on visuals and mood setting devices rather than focusing on true worship. That is just my humble and largely unnecessary opinion.

  • @practicalworship

    @practicalworship

    4 жыл бұрын

I can understand that. But I think visuals and mood have always been part of the experience. It used to be stained glass windows, ornate wood and painted murals. Now it’s haze and moving lights. If used correctly (from stained glass to modern lighting), it can eliminate distractions and point people to Jesus. Used incorrectly, and it just becomes about the show.
