Stage Design Ideas : Warped Wall : Coroplast

This is a stage design that we made out of 8 sheets (4x8) white coroplast. We cut it length wise with a coro-claw, and stapled the 8 foot x 1 foot pieces on a 7 foot frame. This gave us the extra foot of play that we used to create the warp. We front lit with 3 Chauvet Colorado 2 zoom's and lit the interior with 4 Chauvet tour 144 battens.

    This will absolutely work with up lighting. We didn't up light in our application for 2 reasons. 1) Our ceiling is white and we would have a tone of shadows to deal with. 2) The service that we use these elements in has a 10 minute flip from a more traditional service. It is just easier for us to attach everything we can to a truss that is flown overhead, then drop it in for the service. If you are not having to flip a stage and the shadows are not a bother for you, up lighting is a great solution. Thanks for your question. Keep up the good work!

    Brandon...awesome video and design. I noticed that you were stapling your coroplast stripes onto your frame while it was flat on the floor. How did you connect all of your frames together? Did you just bolt them together for easy dissemble? Secondly, after you stapled all of your coroplast strips to the frame did you just have a group of people help you to lift it all at the same time to a standing position? I wanted to make sure I do not break anything when I lift it. Thanks for all the videos you post. You are a God-sent!

    So i finally completed my coroplast woven wall. I wanted to share a few tips of things that i encountered while putting it together. 1. When stapling my coroplast i probably should have aligned the coroplast along the edge of the wood and then stapled. This will allow the seams of the coroplast to fall right between the center of the seams where the frames meet. 2. If you want to make sure that all of your panels bow out at equal distance, then keep all panels bowed out as you are stapling them. Align the current panel with the precious panels. 3. If you have to put legs on your frames, then i recommend making your legs in the shape of an upside down U shape. Use screws to attach the legs. 4. I used 3.5" Screws, bolts and washers to join my frames to one another. This makes for easy dissemble. 5. When selecting wood for this project, PLEASE make sure your 2x4 wood is as straight as possible. If not, your top or bottom base will not align properly and will be hard to tightly screw together. 6. It took me a while to figure out why Brandon screwed his top 2x4 in vertically, unlike his bottom 2x4. The bottom 2x4 is screwed in flat or horizontal because it sits on the floor. The top of the frame is afixed vertically or the 4" part facing you. The logic is: if you are hanging the frame from the top, you have more depth to place your Eye-hooks; also the frame is stronger when the screws are aligned vertically as oppose to horizontally. I hope this makes sense to you. 8. Lastly, we used 3" trim strips to cover our staples. It gave the wall a cleaner look, plus if you ever decide to disassemble your wall and reassemble you can use the same coroplast strips. Dont worry about all the holes from the stapler. Just cover the holes with your trim. I used my nail gun to attach trim because the holes were virtually invisible. Hope this helps someone. I spent about $600

    That is a cool looking backdrop and seemingly simple to put together. Could you please elaborate more on the kind of lighting you used, how many lights, are they centrally controlled or singularly controlled. I would like to use the same concept for designing our church's backdrop. Thanks.

    +Pastor Godfrey Twahirwa Thanks for your comments. The basic lighting is 4 Strip led lights in the middle of each of the panels and they are front lit with 4 par 64 led fixtures. These are centrally controlled from the room's lighting computer and were programmed with different looks for different songs. Hope this helps!

    How does this affect the acoustics of the room? Or is stage noise no problem cause of in ears and di?

  • @psBrandonCook

    @psBrandonCook

    I did not notice this design changing the room acoustics. The band all ran direct into the system and drums were in a cage. The room is very large and as a percentage of the overall space, this design was relatively small. However, we did notice an acoustic difference when we used the 20x30' spandex screen.

    That's great to think of in advance. We recently started a new church that is meeting in a traditional building built in the 60's. We made some set pieces that are also part of our equipment carts. I will make a video shortly of that design because it is a good mix of the old traditional with new fixtures with a rustic look. Be on the lookout for that soon!

    @@psBrandonCook Looking to use this design for a conference where the stage is 55' wide but has a screen in the middle 10x17. Plus there is probably roughly 12' on either side of the scree . I was thinking of putting one under the screen and then one on either side of the the screen 7x8 1/5 hanging from the trust but the one under the screen would be a stand alone piece appxr 7 1/2 x10 or would having 2 under the screen be better

    To me it doesn't matter how the stage looks ..if its plain or its decorated but if the worship and message that is brought forth is not pure , then it doesn't matter how good or bad it looks the point is that it should be done in spirit and in truth..the background doesn't set the mood the people in front of it set the mood for Gods presence to flow.
