My tip would be - throw in some dehydrated seaweed (you can get that easily at any Asian market - they-re small wrinkly things in a little bag or a jar), and or chop up some green onion, just use the normal ramen packets, add an egg and some greens (chopped romaine lettuce is surprisingly good) and presto.

It's not overcomplicated if you need an alternative to all the friggin sodium (and who knows what other crap) is in one of those packets. People with high blood pressure can't have those. But of course I don't know how much sodium powdered "bone broth," shoyu, and the other stuff has... could be worse, haha...

The point of instant ramen, is that it costs 30 cents, this absolutely misses the point. If you can afford this, splurge on the good instant ramens, they come with air dried noodles , freeze dried veggies, and soup bases made with actual human taste buds in mind. I reccomend Nong Shim Instan Shin Ramyun Black. It's rich and garlicky and spicy with wonderfully chewy noodles. Pro tip: If you're eating it at home, add a kraft single to the pot for extra creamy and rich broth, and absolutely boil the noodles separately.

I calculated the cost of making one packet of this homemade seasoning.... and it cost ~$1.81. (Noodle cost not included) WTF, I can get like 10 packs of instant noodles for the same price. The flippin bonebroth powder is expensive as hell. Without it, a packet would only cost ~$0.55. Anyways my point is, THIS IS NOT FOR BROKE COLLEGE STUDENTS! Calculating the fact that one serving of ramen noodles is ~250 calories, it would cost close to $15 for a person to survive off of this per day, compare that to the ~$1.50 you'd spend for regular instant ramen and it's a no brainer. 2 Tbsp bonebroth powder 16c/lb or 1/oz @$1.25/oz 1.5 tsp soysauce powder 64c/lb or 4/oz @$1.10/oz .5 tsp garlic powder 192c/lb or 12/oz @$0.66/oz .25 tsp ginger powder 384c/lb or 24/oz @$0.62/oz .75 tsp dashi powder 128c/lb or 8/oz @$1.61/oz

I don’t know if instant ramen can be made al dente, but If it can the only way to do it would would be to cover it in boiling water, then put lid on no fire underneath come back 5 mins later. For some reason cooking on stovetop with a active fire always makes it too mushy/soft noodles.

Here's my liquid version of instant ramen soup base, easily transportable in a small Tupperware container (and vegan): mix 1 packet of instant kombu dashi powder, 3 tbsp of light (usukuchi) Japanese soy sauce, 1 tbsp of mushroom seasoning (Vietnamse product; available at Chinese markets), 0.5 tsp Better than Bouillon roasted vegetable broth (or other high quality instant broth), 0.5 tsp marmite, 1 tsp of sesame paste (or 0.5 tsp of sesame oil), 1 pinch of porcini powder (optional). Makes 3 cups of killer ramen broth.

Funny thing is...from a food science standpoint.. whats in that bag and those "ingredients you can't pronounce" are essentially the same thing. They come with food conditioners and other ingredients to aid with mouth feel as turning a sauce/broth into a powder, you get quite a substantial loss of volatile compounds.

This is satire, right? I did a quick check, Amazon carries the chicken bone broth for about $36 US for two lbs. the dried soy sauce is around $13. For ramen. I could make my own chicken stock too, and it would be better too. But who is doing this? For ramen. The stuff we all buy when we are broke.

I hate people who put so much effort into the broth but not the noodles!! Putting noodles straight into the broth ewwwwww.... proper way of cooking instant noodles is cook noodles as per instructions (minus 1min) and run it under cold water, this gets rid of all the junk off the noodles, it also firms up the noodles.

  • @hunterhenryk

I put the noodles straight into the flavored puddle so that the noodles absorb the flavored water rather than plain water. I don't ever drink the flavored puddle itself. And if you buy Cup Noodles (aka, the most convenient noodles ever), there's only this one option.

I usually eat the chicken flavored indomie, and my recipe is cool the noodles in water, drain *some* water, leave like 1/3 of it or however much you see fit add the seasoning packets add garlic powder add tbsp or 2 of oyster sauce add cheese of your liking (i use cheddar, ik, weird but it tastes good) add parsley (looks cool) if you wanna make it fancy, cut up some scallions and add it while it's cooking, and you're done! if it gets too dry add some water while cooking it, and you can add as much of each ingredient as you'd like.

How bloody stupid. As if we all have these restaurant ingredients lying around or if we even know where to buy them. Get real man. I like ramen but usually just the noodles that I use in other recipes. I also add noodles to home made chicken or beef broth. Yowza! ...and even the packets aren't that bad, especially the ones with 3 or four ingredient packages like hot oil etc. You need not have made this video mate!

i upgrade my raman by doing a few things. Not totally portable, but at work or home it boosts. First: spice. ginger, garlic, onion powder, thai chili, etc. Soy packets Second: for better broth mouth feel i add a little cornstarch. Finally: Get a bag of frozen mixed veg. Peas ,carrots, and corn mix tends to be good, but Broccoli, edamame, snap peas, green beans or whatever. While instant bone broth or soy sauce are for sure tasty--- they are not really accessible to most folks. Everything i've mentioned can be found in the dollar store. (poundland if G.B.) Hope someone finds this useful!

I like to strain ramen of it's water before adding anything, leaving jist a little to make the noodles creamy. I usually mix creamy chicken and oriental top ramen 1:1 and add a tablespoon of butter with equal parts worcestershire and tabasco, not enough to make it spicy, but to inhance it's depth and flavor. Seriously good stuff

I made the ramen then i added Mozzarella cheese to my ramen to make it super cheesy i realized that my ramen was missing something cause it was bland as hell so i added tapatio to my ramen and it was delicious the amount of spicyness that it had was just right and it was cheesy it was soooo good would make again. I just realized that i probably spelled tapatio wrong if i did feel free to let me know how its spelled and i hope you enjoy this type of ramen as much as i did 😊

The whole point of instant noodles is how quick and easy you can prepare them. This just defeats that point. If you want to upgrade instant noodles, just fry an egg like a carbonara type of noodle, believe me, it tastes very good. Sorry for bad English, I'm Brazilian
