Nerdy spreadsheet nerd reporting for duty! 🤠
This spreadsheet is so pretty!
An hour and a half. We thank you for your service.
🐸FINE. You have CONVINCED ME to remove the series I know I'm never going to finish but am emotionally attached to🤦♀😅 At the beginning of the year, I did a big review of my Goodreads shelves, and identified 341 series that I had marked down in some fashion, whether in progress or unpublished ones that I want, lol. In reality, there are 136 series that I've started or own. And as of this month, I have completed 1 and DNF'd 6, which is not quite the success I was hoping for because I have definitely started more. But I am fully caught up on 12 series, I am in progress on 86, and I own some format of 31 that I haven't started at all. So it's not an ideal breakdown, especially when I consider how long some of the series are and what I need to do to catch up, but I am considering Q1 as my period of preparation, and I'm hoping Q2 will allow me to be ruthless about what I'm not picking up. And then it'll be summer and my brain will be a bit more online, and I'll be in the best place to actually catch up, lol.
That's some serious business there. I don't have one of those for my books, but I do have a master document of all the heavy metal bands, and their songs, I have on my spotify playlist, so I understand the urge.
I could not be more Type B if I tried so I have absolutely no idea what I'm reading, what I've read, what I am soon to read. 🐸 This is like a magical power to me.
Omg Lianne I LOVE your Spreadsheet.....please do you have a template available for those of us not confident in making our own? 🙏❤️🐸
🐸I'm currently reading 30 Series. I'm up to date on 22 and currently have 8 with books to catch up on. I need to read 45 books to catch up and be current on all my series , this includes books announced for this year. And yes I made a spreadsheet while watching your video.🥂📚
I love this! Spreadsheets and statistics are so fun! I get where you're coming from when you've read a series or part of one and loved it, but you don't want to read more. Sometimes more isn't better. Also, I didn't know you were a Mercy Thompson fan! I love that series, it's a favorite reread for me. This January I struggled with SAD and rereading those books got me through. Just a thought, instead of rereading a whole series when a new book comes out, maybe try just rereading the most recent book in the series. It works to get me in the head space, anyway. Thanks as always for sharing!
🐸 my actual favorite emoji!! idk how many series I'm in the middle of but I know I own 48 duologies I haven't started and 62 un-started series where I own multiple books (the most egregious being the discworld where I own approximately 20 books and haven't read a single one)
Loving that spreadsheet! I'm terrified to see how many series I've started but haven't finished. 🐸🐸🐸
I just love a good spreadsheet 🤩 this is my happy place
🐸 😂 As a rule, I try to avoid series, especially unfinished ones. Many years ago, I wanted to read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, but the author died before the series was complete. They had to find another author with a different voice to complete it. I haven't read it to this day and probably won't. However if the series has less than 4 books, and is COMPLETE, I'll read that
Back to watch the second half while I get ready this morning and woohoo! That's such a good result 👌🐸👌
🐸 This was so delightful! Go you!! This is so helpful for my mental state too, like permission to start considering letting go of series I am not excited about finishing. I don't know why it's so hard, but it is!!!! I have a tracker in my physical journal but I am sorely tempted to create a spreadsheet that goes into more detail. Them stats, they're so delicious!!
🐸 I can think of one (1) series I've read every book in. You're doing well. 😅
I love your spreadsheet! The first time you did a video I set up my own and sometimes I remember to update it! hahahah 🐸 I updated after watching and I'm at 31 ongoing series! Some of them haven't been started yet but once I own them I like them to be included in the sheet.
🐸 I started making a series tracker, but I don't want to continue. It's just not for me. What I have most of, I think, is unread first books in series. But I've gotten better at not buying sequels without having read the first one.
it may feel bad for you number-wise, i usually find marking my reread series as "in progress" again as super helpful because otherwise i'll lose track of where i am since i already know what happens in every book 😅 course that only rly helps if i keep it rather up to date for reference
🐸🐸🐸 I have just started tracking series but haven’t written all of them in yet. I’m trying to give all of them a try and then be honest with myself on whether I will actually finish.
Great work on just admitting when you’re done with a series. 💪🏻♥️
🐸 well done, Lianne, go you 👏
Yay you! I started 2024 with 39 series, counting only the series that I could make progress in at the time. I am really hoping to cut that number in half this year. I started my own series tracker last year inspired by you, and I love it! Thanks for the video! 🐸
🐸🐸🐸 I can't deal with too many ongoing series, so I usually binge them within a few months. I am currently in the middle of 4 series, and I'm caught up with 12 series. I love everyone's serie tracker/ spreadsheet videos and I also keep track of my reading in a spreadsheet and series tracker.
There are stuff regarding my series that i keep from when i was young (in my case is reading them back to back) and some stuff i'm more cautious and think them through. Right now when i'm interested in a series i only buy the first book. Before i would buy all. I tend to start only series that are finished. I don't like to wait. If they are companion novels i won't consider them series (so for instance the wayferes from Becky Chambers, i read book the first two books and have the other 2, but since they are companion novels, i don't feel pressure to finish). Right now i'm in the middle of 5 series. The one with more years is the Ramses series. I've been collecting the 5 books through many years in second hand book shops. And read all but the last one. So many years have passed, that now, i have to reread all. The other is the Song of Ice and Fire of G.R.R. Martin (i still hoped that he finishes the last two books). The other is the Witcher series. The fourth one in the book 2 and 3 from Children of Blood and Bone (the third one goes out this year). And the last one is The gentleman bastards from Scott Lynch. I really liked the books and i'm waiting the next one, quite some time.
I am so here for the Bookshops and Bonedust rant! You voiced my exact feelings much more succinctly than I've been able to
🐸🐸🐸🐸 I have 29 series ongoing, 5 of which are series that I have read all the published books. The rest are just ones I haven’t gotten to yet.
I don’t have a series spreadsheet. But I also don’t read a lot of series other than duo/trilogies because ADHD 😂😂 Also I’m slightly holding the “done with NK Jemison against you because she’s a fave 😂. I couldn’t get into the CIty either because too hard scifi but the rest of her stuff is perfect. Oh: 🐸🐸
I recently just went through all of my read books on Goodreads & put together my spreadsheet. Oh boy was that humbling, especially to see how much my reading’s changed over the years & how many I just simply never finished 😅
Congratulations Lianne, you have done so much & no doubt feel much better! 🐸
Chapeau to you for doing this. I really should get serious about tracking books I want to read instead of thinking I will remember and read them on my own.
🐸 I literally don't know where I am in the series. I do keep track of some in my reading journal. I haven't updated it though. You have inspired me. So happy for your progress!! 🙂
🐸 🐸 🐸 I think I only have about 10 series I’m working through right now, my OCD brain struggles starting new series when I know there are others still to finish. BUT I do have all the new series ready to go for when I’m ready.
Love the spread sheet! I think it would be complete with a color condition so you just had to choose "Series Completed" and the whole thing turned pink on it's own! I don't know if that's possible, but if not it should be.
Smashed it! 🐸🐸🐸
I love your spreadsheet. I'm terrible at this of tracking. I did finish 3 last year completed series last year. Just by happenstance. Did appreciate we share some series. I've read until book 5 of the Wayward series but my libraries don't have the rest. (Such a lovely series.) The second Emily Wilde book was fantastic. Thank you for the rec last year. I'm sure The Bride Bet is going to be on hold for ages. Do hope Tessa eventually feels more mentally secure. Finally, I gave up on Mercy around book 6 I think. But in a college course, I compared Iron Kissed to Lover Beware (J.R. Ward).
I also recently did a re-read of the ENTIRE Percy Jackson world. All of the original series, all of Heroes of Olympus and all of Trials of Apollo as well as The Sun and the Star. So good.
I will defend Queen B because it’s hundreds of years in advance of HMRC, but I am so excited 😂 it’s like a spin off in my opinion. Doesn’t seem essential to the series experience and I want to read about witchy Anne Boleyn.
So I had this major reading slump that lasted for 2 years. Decided to start from scratch, as all the series I was in the middle of, I no longer know anything about. The series I had started and that I am still interested in, I will just re-read. Starting from january this year I started 6 series, 1 completed, 5 ongoing.
🐸 i actually just did that at the beginning of this week with my daughter. I have 54 series 😢
29:29 - 😂 I met Juno Dawson at YALC she's trying to "land the plane" and bring it to a satisfying conclusion! I have faith it's not a Rothfuss and Martin Situation 😂💜📚
I started my series spreadsheet after your previous video about it. I'm bad at updating it but I'm inspired to go do that now ❤
I really should start a tracker. I have NO idea how many series I've read or am reading. I know one series I read currently has 37 books in it and I don't know how many I have left to read! 😅🐸
I totally understand leaving series when you feel 'done' with them even if you haven't read all the books. That said, I cannot recommend Winterkeep and Seasparrow highly enough! They are my two favourite books in the series and Seasparrow in particular is now one of my favourite books of all time
🐸I have started 18 series and plan to start 15 more series.
I really should go through my series and decide which to continue 😬
Ooh I think I'm going to have a go at making one of these. Might take me all weekend. 🐸
I've only started tracking series started as of last year so my number is probably a bit low but I have 20 complete published and 18 in progress. That I've either started or read from in the last two years.
🐸 I don't have a series spreadsheet, but it's a great idea.
🐸 I also left the shark cos it makes me happy🦈
🐸 great video!!
I have a spreadsheet that I use to track both collecting (because I hunt so many second hand as they are OOP) and reading. My numbers: Started (only read first book): 12 Ongoing (read 2+ books): 12 Up to date: 2
🐸💚 Your spreadsheet and bingo board update videos are always my favourites!! So far I've finished 3 series and caught up on 1, but I've started 2 new series 😅.
I am only reading one Series right now. Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas. I am on Book 3 which is called Heir Of Fire. I am reading All The Sinners Bleed by S. A. Cosby. This book is so so good. I got mine from the Library. Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🤗📖🔰📚📕❤️
🐸🐸🐸 Ive only recently gotten back into reading so my series tracker is small but I've got 8 ongoing, one of which is a Poirot read through which I'm loving so much 🥰
Love this! I am currently in the middle of 44 series and there an additional 61 series where I have just read the first book
🐸Go girl!
24:09 - in my head Goth Girl has 3 books and a novella as the 4th book I wish I had not read, so I pretend it haven't. 😂
I'm pretty sure I'm sitting at around 50 active/ongoing series. 😂 🐸🐸🐸 This is why I have my 12 series to finish in 2024 challenge because it keeps me accountable for actually completing series (especially when I only have one or two books left to go).
Yes! Spreadsheets and books!
I do keep a list of my series in progress, but nothing as majestic as yours! I’m at 28’series on deck, with Wayward Children not counting because I only read the ones of those I’m particularly interested in. 🐸
🐸 🐸 I have a series spreadsheet but I have laid mine out somewhat different 😂 I have individual sheets for the different categories, and I find great satisfaction in moving a series from one category to the next - for the stats people, I currently have 46 series that I'm currently working on, and I'm hoping to get that down by the end of the year
Now I want to read all the series you have DNFed, for no reason at all 😅 🐸

It's like the urge to smell the stinky cheese! 😂
I love a good spreadsheet! Series will be the death of me lol
yay to letting go of guilt 🐸
I loved this 🐸 But I feel like you stress yourself out too much 🤔 Like I get wanting to finish series and not forget about them but it's a great part of the reading life to sometimes reread a favourite series instead of continuing a new one, and don't we all wanna be happy? I also have a series tracker and at least 30 ongoing series, if not more, I don't remember anymore haha
Oh. My. God. You did amazing! 🐸
Hi Lianne, What a great spreadsheet. I’m definitely going to use some of your ideas to update mine. Thank you for sharing. I have 17 series on my sheet. I try not to have to many ongoing series to be able to keep up with them. But that seems to be a real challenge lol. So many books that come out are series. I wonder: series that have no reading order, do you count them as series? (Like for example The cemetery of forgotten books by Carlos Ruiz Zafón) Have a great day 🐸
Jurassic Park has a fantasitc audiobook so maybe you can read it that way!
I need a blank copy of this spreadsheet with the column titles so I can plug in my own books 😂
Let’s finish Aurora Cycle together this year! I also haven’t finished it, though I’d need to reread books 1 & 2
Travis Baldree didn't want to write Bookshops and Bonedust, he had most of another book written. I can only imagine what his wife had to say about the book he actually wrote about the lost love of your life and regret.
🐸🐸 I have 18 ongoing series and 5 I have caught up with. Probably unpopular opinion, but I was bored for most of Bookshops and Bonedust, there was just no real tension since I knew not too many bad things can really happen to Viv. Not saying it's bad, just meh Regarding heartstopper, I much preferred Volume 5 to some of the others (especially Volume 4)
Is it a good idea to add an “re-read” column where you can enter a number how many times you have re-read a series?
🐸 I think I’m in the middle of 9 or 10 series. 🐸
Prequels in the middle of publishing a series IS a cash grab. It makes me so angry. This makes my nerdy heart happy. I just might do this to keep track of mine. 🐸
🐸 how many series? Urrrrrmmmm.... 😊
I am genuinely waaaay too scared to do a series spreadsheet 🥺🐸
You get stuck on rereads so much! Why not just watch or read a synopsis instead of rereading every time you want to move to the next book in a series? 🐸
Put this one off due to length but it flew through. Kinda hate you though as I wanna do pretty box spreadsheets too 😂. 🐸
