I had the privilege of having my double lung transplant journey filmed for this UofM Lung Transplant educational DVD back in September 2010, which all the surgery footage is of mine, including the beginning of this DVD. I think the glamour shot was the tube down my throat. HA! Amy was the one who was filming during my 9 day stay. I had a double lung transplant due to having Cystic Fibrosis (CF) on Sept 26th 2010. Four months later I was diagnosed with stage 4 non hodgkin's lymphoma (PTLD- Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder) due to my anti-rejection medication and went through an intense 6 month treatment of R-Chop chemotherapy at the UofM Comprehensive Cancer center. The whole entire transplant team (doctors, surgeons, coordinators, pharmacists,) and everyone over at the Cardiovascular Center ICU (CVCICU) and nurses and staff on 6C (Pulmonary/General Medicine Unit) were wonderful. Words can't describe how much effort and time everyone puts into other's care at UofM. Even when I was going into the hospital during my chemo treatments every 3 weeks for 6 months (due to very high fevers), they were an outstanding group of people. I even had doctors from the CF team coming in and checking to see how I was doing. So during my 6 months I got to meet a lot of the team including a lot of the transplant team as well. All wonderful people. Not enough words can be said about my transplant pulmonologist Dr.Kevin Chan and my surgeon Dr. Andrew Chang. Everyone at UofM Medical Center are Heroes and victors indeed.

Hi! Im glad to hear that you received your double lung transplant! I hope you are enjoying a good life with love ones and friends. My girlfriend had 2/3 of her left lung removed due to Cancer, and while she was cancer free for a few years, she may have Cancer again in the last 1/3 left of her lung. Im not sure if the doctors will remove the last 1/3 of her lunch leaving her with just one lung, but Im hopeful she will be OK. Once again, Im really glad that you received your transplant and I pray to God that you will live a very long life. Goad bless you!

It is extremely important to point this out! After your Lung transplant, you may be instrected to use a piece of equipment known as the MetaNeb, or the Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation IPV machine. The MetaNeb is used to help you clear your airways. It uses Pressure against which you will breathe to help you to expand your lung.It also uses High Frequency Oscillations to help remove secretions from your lungs. The IPV machine uses oscillations at high pressures to assist in airway clearance. The IPV is an extremely powerful piece of equipment.
