I can totally relate to this because I have high functioning autism and a bladder disorder called interstitial cystitis. That girl may have interstitial cystitis. When she said that her bladder felt like it was on fire that it one of the symptoms of IC and I have experienced it multiple times. It’s very painful

Thank you! I don't understand the fear!! It just means my brain works differently!! I am high functioning so people forget I'm on the spectrum and will say things like, "I'd die if I had an autistic child". It's very painful to hear. I know I caused a lot of challenges for my parents growing up, and I was bullied a lot, and my sweet, patient husband assures me my odd quirks don't get him down, but honestly, there are a billion worse things than autism, and because I'm on the spectrum, I have amazing abilities I don't see in other people. The only issues I've ever had are "normal" people not understanding me.

This is so important and I appreciate it! I really wish those who work at the clinics and hospitals where I live would try harder. They don't do well at all with those who have invisible or intellectual challenges. One thing I especially want staff and doctors to understand is that even if I might be with a parent or friend for support they should still direct everything (questions, paperwork, instructions, ect.) to me instead of acting as though I'm not there. I have ears and a brain. They both work.

I work at a mental health facility, the worst case of autisim I have ever seen is a patient 24 hrs a day in panel restraints anyone that works in mental health will know what panel restraints are. This client is literally strapped to a bed 23hrs and 45 minutes a day. Client is bathed daily but then put back in restraints. Also this client had such severe case of self harm their forehead is literally scar tissued over and dented looking.

Same, I make humming sounds while rocking, and stand up, jump while flapping my hands whenever I'm alone and using my imagination. Usually when people talk to me (my friends, teacher, boss etc) I try to make eye contact, but it makes me uncomfortable looking at people, or many people staring at me, so I have to look at the ground while responding. Some people cannot tell that I'm autistic because I'm great at controlling it temporarily, but not for a long time because it makes me uncomfortable, so I have to do my autistic things. Usually when I'm alone I do my austistic things because it makes me comfortable, but it also makes me uncomfortable doing it in front of people.

(Verbal) Autistic communication style generally means saying what you mean, not hinting or implying. I don't think I've ever had a doctor who didn't create a totally different narrative based on straightforward things I told them. They even correct me sometimes to tell me what I feel. It's unbelievable. If I said I wasn't anxious, I wasn't anxious. Stop making stuff up.
