Today I will show you how to update your navigation system on your car. This is a relatively simple process to do is follow the instructions included with your new map CD. I have included a link in the description for the CD I purchase which was for a 2011 Toyota Highlander. Make sure when you purchase your CD that you check that it is compatible with your vehicle before you make your purchase. Instructions that came with the CD were very helpful and straightforward and this is a quick and easy process to update your navigation system. The one thing it did not include was how to eject your old CD and this can be a bit tricky depending on your system. There's no real button that says eject if you push the regular eject it only pertains to music CDs which is a different slot in your system. In my case for the 2011 Toyota Highlander I had to push the info/phone button from the home screen then I had three choices one of which was navigation system once I selected that option I was then given another option to eject CD. Once that process was complete I inserted the new CD closed the interface panel and let the system update on its own. As you can see this is pretty simple and straightforward and once done you will have an updated map system on your car's navigation system.

I came across this video while looking for something else about my 2011 highlander... I am trying to figure out how to STOP a navigation to a location before it reaches the destination... surely there must be some way to turn this off! the map thing is very interesting... I am assuming since I didnt know it was even there, I probably have an OLD 2011 map in my car!
Hi Shane, I installed the updated map disk and I followed your steps but I when I pressed Show Map at the end it didn't update to my current location. I guess is showing where the previous vehicle owner was or used. Please advise and thanks!

I’ve never seen that happen before, maybe try reinstalling it? Interesting issue sorry I don’t have a clear answer for you.
My friend has a toyota Highlander 2012 imported from some country....he wanted to update the maps and yes the dealership told him about the same dvd....my only question is will it update the maps for US or India as well? Will the maps work in India?

Pankaj Singh you have to buy a DVD specific to the country you will be driving in. For example my DVD said north American map update.
I have a2012 Prius that all of a sudden the navigation tells me none of the addresses are locatable. Shows a map on screen , but not close to me. More of a one sided us map. Is there an update I need to do

Not sure what the issue is in that case, sorry I have not seen that before. would not hurt to do an update though.

Hi, is it possible to have to 7 inch touch screen display units with the same part number but one has navigation & one does not. Is that a possibility?

Melody Gustitus My instinct tells me that it’s the part numbers are the same then they should be exactly the same however I’m not familiar enough with them to know for sure. The best thing I would tell you is to check at a dealership of the make and model you have and have them run the serial number they can tell you exactly what the vehicle came with and that might help.

Two Camping Gurus We are having issues with our dealership. They replaced our recall airbags. While doing so, the cracked our Navigation Display screen. They replaced it with used part. But we don’t have navigation anymore. We called other dealerships to confirm with our VIN we had navigation. Dealership is now telling us we never had navigation. Just doing our research on this matter.

I see from your email that you are in Canada the DVD that I use is for The USA I do not remember if it covers Canada as well but I do know it covers the United States. I don’t know which one you can use to ensure you have Canada covered as well. Sorry this was not much help but I will look to see if I can find the appropriate DVD for you.

The one I use says it covers North America so I’m assuming Canada would be included in and on the DVD. However it is currently out of stock on Amazon and I’m not sure where else you can get it besides possibly the dealership. Hope this helps

Unfortunately I’m not familiar with those areas and whether or not they have mountains form, I’m sure they do you’ll just have to do some research and try to find the one you’re looking for for the region you plan on traveling in. Sorry this wasn’t much help good luck and have a nice day

I have a 2011 Toyota Avalon. The dvd loaded just fine but,when I try to type in a destination, it doesn’t list any city in my state. Any suggestions?

Yes the first thing I would check is to make sure you have the correct region selected. If you’re trying to search in area other than the region that is selected it will not come up with the information you want. Hopefully this helps

As far as know they are car specific. I got mine on amazon link in the video description. Not sure if they have one for your area but im sure they do.

Hi, my name is Avi and I live Toronto,On-Canada. Have 2008 LEXUS RX400H and just bough a new map disk from Amazon. All well except, on few occasions the GPS indicates no address on the road indicated, and does not let you go any further...tried i.s.o 68 for e.g. house 70 72 etc same resluts. I was advised to reset the system, how do I do that? tks

Unfortunately I’m not familiar with the resetting of the system on a Lexus. Check around KZread and other websites and I’m sure somebody has done it on that particular vehicle. Sorry I couldn’t help.

Yes there is a link to the CD I bought for the upgrade. Make sure it’s the correct one for your vehicle as well.

Team Desi Crew You would have to buy a disk containing the map updates for the area you plan on traveling in. As far as I’m aware that’s all you need to do and you should be all set. I will say I have never done that so I would do a little more research to be sure. With that said the disc typically run between 30 and $50 so it’s not a huge expense if it were not to work. Hope this helps.
