Update to the RCF 8004-AS subwoofer amplifier module cover

We had to modify the RCF 8004-AS amplifier module cover due to an issue with the first version of that cover (in 2021).

    I did a similar mod. Started off with velcro too. Ended up using small, button neodymium magnets l counter sunk and epoxied into the cabinet and....... well you can figure out the rest.

    Would it have worked with stronger magnets on the inside of the cabinet?

    👍☑ You put so much thought and effort into preserving your equipment! Bravo sir. On a side note I just put everything in road cases but that increases the size and weight .....

    Do you leave the subs in the case when in use or lift them in and out?

    Thanks for your comment. Sounds like there could be something internally wrong with the amplifier module. You may want to contact RCF with the problem... or possibly post your question / issue on an audio forum; someone from the forum may know what the issue is with your speaker.

    Have you thought of using metal button snap fasteners? Could be a good solution.

    Yes, I did consider something very similar to that. However, it would have required some physical work (damage??) to the subwoofer cabinet. I opted not to go that route. Good suggestion though.

    How do you keep the wheels from vibrating/rattle during use?

  • @stageleftaudio

    @stageleftaudio

    The wheels don't add anything to the physics of the cabinet. The wheels do vibrate, but the amount of vibration is very minimal; nothing that I would ever consider an issue with the performance of the cabinet. As well, I don't think I have heard them rattling. Some lower cost casters do rattle. None of the casters we use (all attached subs) do not rattle. Hope this helps.

    Good casters can cost a little more. All of the casters we use on our subs are from Penn-Elcom.

    How many people can you cover with a pair of 8004 sub?

    We use a single 8004 for about 200 people. It does very well. Though, it depends on the type of music that is being mixed and what your expectations are. If you were to use two 8004 subs, you may want to center cluster them to ensure the best coverage.

    @@stageleftaudio one sub for 200-people? Wow. I have no personal experience with 8004 but I'm eye'ing on getting a pair soon. Are they better and louder than dual-18 JBL SRX?

    I've been impressed with the 8004. We have other videos on KZread using the 8004. I got the 8004 to replace a JBL PRX718XLF sub... that JBL sub was nowhere near the level of the 8004. Again, it depends on what you are expecting for low-end for the type of music you plan on playing through it. If you are doing DJ work, specifically EDM for a crowd of 200, a single 8004 may not be the best choice. Which SRX sub are you referencing? We have the SRX728 subs (passive). The SRX subs are different than the 8004. Using only one of the SRX subs, I think the SRX "hits" harder than the 8004 (due to 2 x 18"), however, I think the 8004 does a better job with the low-end between 30hz and 40hz. In my opinion, the 8004 sounds more full than an SRX728 sub.
