update on Whirlpool washer and dryer - 2 years later

Many people have been asking me for an update on my washer and dryer. I bought them 2 years ago and made a video showing them. That video is very popular and gets a lot of questions. This video gives my opinions on them and shows various features. There haven't been any problems with them.
This is the second video I have about my washer and dryer. Links to the other videos are below.

    I agree with you as people see all that tub space and they overfill the machine. Therefore the clothes are not being given enough room to move around and get clean. I purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio in mid 2017 (in white) and they are still working just fine with no issues. I think the key with any type of washing machine is not to overload. I do not like the Pods but continue to use Liquid Tide and Vinegar as you said.. Thanks for the update.

    Nice review. I have an 8040... knock on wood, I have really enjoyed. If I fill high with clothes I use 2 Tide pods. I think it is important to use a laundry cleaner when you get the light to clean the machine. I like I can clean my pillows in this. You are right, 5.3c.u. is HUGE.

    I have added ONE set of queen size bed sheets, set the settings to DEEP water...and still, there are times when parts of the sheets come out dry and often quite twisted. As for dark clothes, even with the addition of vinegar in the final rinse, they often come out with a soapy film. The initial appeal of this machine was the size of the tub. Great machine to throw a lot of laundry into, not sure it does a great job of actually washing it. Thanks very much for the review.

    Same thing here. The auto water level feature is horrible. Makes me waste huge amounts of water and electricity because I have to rewash clothe upto three times it doesn’t matter if I put small, medium or large. I have to wer the clothe before hand to fool the machine to add more water and sometime it adds to much water and clothe gets floats and doesn’t get washed.

    I bought the updated version of the Cabrio in 2020 in the same color. Love the look of them. The washer is trash already - 1yr, 4mos after purchase, the drain pump had to be replaced; 4mos later, the control board had to be replaced (waited 7wks for it); less than 3 weeks later, the washing machine is not working again. I don't think I will be looking at a Whirlpool this time. Such a shame because it is such a beautiful set. But going to the laundromat, esp for those 7wks, made me fall out of love.

    I was not too happy with this machine when I first got it. It took a few washes to be comfortable with not seeing lots of suds like my old machine. It cleans great in deep water setting if you do not overfill with clothes. The h.e detergents are a must. They can be pricey though. I buy in bulk when I can. 3 repairs on a Samsung unit can cost as much as a new unit. Factor in the years of service vs repair cost should tell you when you should just buy a new one. A new stater motor and motherboard plus service call and labor equals a lot of money. I do my own repair and parts are not cheap plus lost time waiting for parts. We had a Maytag purchased in 1987 and lasted without one repair unit 2006. Unfortunately no maker produces that type of reliability anymore. If you can get 5-7 years of service without any repairs then you have got your monies worth.

    Hi Michelle- I just bought this same set and was hoping you could answer a question. I know you can disable it on the load and go dispenser if you prefer not to use it, which I have done. But where do you put the detergent if you are doing a single dose? I put it in the load and go thinking that is where it went, then disabled the load and go, but when the cycle was over, the soap was still in the dispenser and not used. Do you just dump it directly onto the clothes?

  • @michellesfrugallivin

    @michellesfrugallivin

    3 жыл бұрын

    Are you meaning that yours holds a lot of detergent for multiple loads? Mine doesn't do that. I am always adding detergent into the dispenser. And really I don't think it would be a problem to just put it on the clothes. The old style washer I had before I would dump it right under the water so it would mix in good. You could turn the water dispenser on in the washer and pour your detergent into the water right then.

    People need to understand that these HE washers are different. I would not have one. That doesn't mean that they won't work if you use them per the directions. If your clothes don't get dirty, then these machines will work. If you have dirty lawn clothes, with grass, and dirt, you need water to wash away that stuff. But if you just have some minor sweat then you can put them in the sink with hot water and dish soap for 10 minutes and they will be clean. These machines are for a particular type of home. I use cheap dollar tree detergent and powder color safe bleach. My closes come out spotless. I determine the water level. I determine the length of the cycle. I determine the water temp. I do my laundry, not the machines brain. The other day I tossed out some 2 week old spaghetti sauce. I poured it in to fast and the toilet over flowed. I reached for 2 white towels and quickly cleaned up the mess. As I soaked up the mess with one towel I tossed it in the bathtub. I did the same for the second. Because the was the second bath, I forgot about the towels and left them for almost three weeks. I never use those towels or tub. The towels were brand new and had never been used. I was prepared to sacrifice them as cleaning rags. I filled up the speed queen with hot water. I added two cups of amonia. I let the towels soak for a few hours. I set the machine to Rinse, spin, and drain, with an extra Rinse. I filled the speed queen again with warm water, a cup of cheap dollar tree detergent, a scant cup of bleach, and fabric softener. I put the machine on heavy duty and walked away. When I came back 30 minutes later, the towels were spotless and white again. Those towels were so.filthy I found bleached beans and crushed tomatoes at the bottom of the machine. I don't care what anyone says, no HE machine could have done that job. But that washer beats the clothes clean. My machine uses a hell of a lot of water, but I don't care. My clothes are always clean. Even if I add to many clothes, the machine never gets off balance. My clothes always come out clean. The worst thing it will do is trap the clothes next to the agitator and cause excessive wear. That's if I am careless, which is rare. These machines are beautiful, but that swishing and spitting water would never do in my house. I also cannot tolerate not being sure my clothes are going to come out clean. As with everything in life, it's a trade off🤷🏼‍♂️

    I have the same 2 washer and dryer for 2 years now and recently have had to have the tech 3 times now (luckily I got geek squad protection so I don’t come out of pocket) the touch pad where you select how to wash gets locked up only making a beep and won’t start the load, the problem is intermittent but not it won’t work period, the tech replaced the controller and a bunch of other part that fixed the problem for 2 months but then the same issues started happening. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this

    The button on the left wakes the machine up. Then you pick what kind of load you want and water temperature etc. Then to start it you hold in the button on the right for 3 seconds. It makes a noise for the lid locking so you know you held it in long enough.

    I have model WTW8120HW0 The lid gets wet every load...on occasions it sprays water leaking out the front side during rinse cycle. When auto fill washing dog beds or large blankets, it leaves dirt and lint at center. I have the non agitator unit. Half load of sheets gets off center. Blankets or towels...always off center and incomplete cycles. I have tried fully loaded and half loaded...like items...both off centered themselves. Any pointers? I really wanted to like this washer, because of load and go and I spent over 1000 on this washer. 😢 I am disappointed. Maybe I am not using it correctly? I started putting in on max fill and heavy duty. Sometimes it doesn't get all the clothes wet on auto. 😬 It doesn't seem to sense well. I came from fixitguy.

I place on max fill now and heavy duty wash. I added tape to direct the water vertically, so it doesn't spray out the front...I shouldn't have to do any of this with an $1000 unit. It shouldn't have any of these issues.

    The water you hear is a liquid solution inside the plastic ring atop the drum that maintains balance in the washer. That smell is from using too much detergent and not cleaning the washer monthly. You’ll need to invest in some Affresh or other brand washer cleaner.
