Update on the two "direct ship" Belgian Draft horse mares saved last week because of your support

Last week two Belgian Draft horse mares were on the "direct ship" list at Bowie Texas Livestock. We did an emergency fundraiser for their bail and transport and because of all of your support and generosity we were able to save both of the horses! Both mares were in rough shape and needed medical attention as soon as possible.
This video is an update on how they are doing after we picked them up from the livestock yard, their names revealed, their first week on the farm and how they are doing after seeing Dr. Waggoner at Mobile Veterinary Practice.
Ava, another rescued Belgian Draft horse also went to the vet. Ava was rescued a few months ago before my accident. Both Ava and one of the new girls are going to need surgery to remove the tumors they have in their eyes.

@user-qi6yo7xt4l I'm doing well, Claudia. Just very busy with training and teaching. And this year, campaigning 2 of the 3 horses I have in for training. I'll be back in the fall, when things slow down a bit. Right now I'm also helping with summer camp as well. Not enough time to indulge in watching John's videos. By the time I get home, I'm just too darn tired! All I want is a cooling shower, some supper, and my bed!! But I'm staying safe and doing well. Let John know I say hello, please. Your friend, Jenn 💖

Every time you rescue a horse and then have to take them off the ranch for medical care, I always want to reassure them that they are coming back. They have been through so much I don't want them to be scared anymore. Thank you for all you do to give them better lives.

So happy these two Belgians were saved and keeping good thoughts for all 3 that went to the vet.
WOW that is quite a herd you have built. Just beautiful! That swollen leg looks so painful, poor baby. I always thought it was cruel to cut their tails. As many flies that are on them they need a long tail to swoosh them away.

Why is it that the previous owners are never charged with any kind of animal abuse or neglect? It drives me crazy. I just want to cry when I see these horses. Their hooves alone are in terrible condition. I am so happy they are finally going to get the love and care they so deserve 💕

Because, legally, horses are livestock. And, as such, a commodity. There will always be people with "commodity hearts" in conflict with hearts like yours. Keep finding/keep saving.

Thank you for this video. It gives a real insight to all that goes into responsible rescuing. People want rescues, but often don't understand the costs involved in doing it, as well all the work, and knowledge needed to do it right. These are beautiful horses and it is wonderful they had a first rate rescue take them on. Wanted to share a spot to check on swollen leg for a cut high high up in her inner groin, about where leg meets body. My mare cut herself with her blanket leg strap buckle... and got swollen like this too in the same way and the cut was so small and hidden it was not seen for several days...

God Bless you for all the love and tlc you give these horses when they need it most after being tossed aside as worthless. It would be nice if the vets farrier could give them all a trim before coming home. Fionas right front esp needs attention but Im sure they all could use it.
Back in the day, they would take two solid silver spoons, cup one over the bad eye and tap it with the other spoon. Silver has many properties that were use for healing. You could try it to see if over time it will help her. Debbie

I would get an ophthalmologist consult at Texas A & M if that is possible for this girl. Or hopefully you have one locally that could take a look at her. Not doubting your vet, but this sounds like a very complicated case.

As an achey older lady myself, I can relate to Fiona. Sometimes it is difficult to be "social" and "nice" when parts of you hurting. I hope Fiona's leg can be healed and isn't too painful. So glad she is still with her friend Pearl!

I don’t know if it’s something to do with the breed but this is the 4th horse we have had that has had eye tumors.
The clever cowgirl has a vibration plate she uses for a variety of ailments but one of the best reasons is to get the lymphatic system functioning. It really helps to relieve the leg swelling and relaxation.
