I ran into this early on when training on a hard surface (my concrete patio). I started by using a bath towel folded into a pad about 8 inches by 24. An improvement, but not ideal. Mentioned it to my wife, she gave me an old yoga pad. When folded in the same manner I have the space to put my hands flat, at shoulder width, with pad being about 1 inch thick. It compresses about 1/2" or so. For the numbers you're racking up, an injury like you've experienced can happen even with good form.

Apocalyptic DOMS haha. It’s so true though hey. Wise words as always Max. Training with longevity in mind is probably some of the best advice out there.

Sorry to hear about the injury, Max. You definitely done the right thing in taking a break and I wish you a swift recovery so you can get back out there smashing the big numbers.

Hi Max, I hope your wrist heals quickly and completely. I started doing my burpees on my knuckles last year and that seems to work for me. I thought of you last Saturday on my 55th birthday. I gave myself 55 pull-ups, a parkrun and 500 6 counts as a present😊 Best wishes from Melbourne!

I'd rather see you take a week off from Burpees than to injure yourself, Max. I'll be doing 4-counts, later, this evening. Stay strong and get stronger!

330 seals, great effort though Max. I’m back on the training wagon. Send me an email if you have any spaces coming up soon. Be happy to join you. I’m clawing back to level 2. Just done the 75 seals follow along. Felt good even though I’ve been off for about 3/4 months. Anyway 6 counts again tomorrow 💪.

Because I'm overweight, I add an intermediate step between hitting the stomach and "1", where I hinge and tap my shins to slow my descent and lessen the impact on my wrists. Maybe that can be useful to you on long workouts with a lot of strain on those small joints and time isn't a limiting factor. The rhythm is "hit-tap-1-2..." By the way, I did my first 2 days back doing burpees this weekend after my knee injury. 61 six-counts, 25 Navy Seals with no pain. Could've gone higher on the six-counts but I was being careful. About a 40% reduction from my peak, but that's what you get for not training for 2 months. Still, glad to be back!

Hey Max, I have always been a big advocate of having a variety of training sessions in one's back pocket so that if there is an injury specific to one style of training, one can quickly transfer to another. Pulling a calf on a run or the running machine and I can bike [and soon some plyometrics]. A groin pull [from squash lunging] and can soon after go for a run. Regardless of that - can you still do the burpees on your fists?? No wrist bending there...🤔👌

Busy dad, been a follower for a while. Recently i bad to stop because my shoulders got completely blown out. How the heck do i avoid this whilst still sticking to the program? Take a few days break until i build up toleranve?

Couldn't agree more with an even, flat, training surface. I developed a cyst on my wrist after doing a whole lot of supercharged burpees in different locations for scenic shots, e.g. the sand at the beach, wet grass in parks, a grass hill. Rest those wrists!

Just a personal question. I have an old lower back injury from an accident and find that usual 6 counts make it flair up (maybe because of the extra up’s and downs). I’m currently level 2 towards 3 and have found far less pain after navy seals. Am I better to do 4 navy seals sessions for a while or 3 and 1 x 6 count? What am I missing out on by not having an equal balance of 6 counts & navy seals? Or any suggestions of how I should adjust the format (even temporarily) to not exacerbate my back but to keep my progress going in the right direction. Thanks for taking the time and for all you do. Big fan Max, Thank you.

No shame in listening to your body! I had to real a 40min session in early this weekend in similar fashion. Hated to in the moment but knew only bad things were coming if I stubbornly blundered ahead. Live to fight another day 👍

Thanks to you, I learned about the seal burpee, and now I use 20 seals as a warmup for all my exercise. ❤ P. S. Rest is a sacred movement as well, especially if the body demands it. 😅
