War is psychologically traumatic. Talking about it in any manner will surely trigger bad memories for some. For some, seeing others profit from talking about it will trigger mixed feelings. My father was a Vietnam vet; as a kid, we had a neighbor that was also. Many times, he would come over and my father had to 'talk him down'...

Anybody who watches him regularly knows that 99.9% of the stories that he tells have nothing at all to do with being a Navy seal. He’s just a damn good storyteller.!

Mr.Ballen was severally wounded serving his country and that is more than enough to earn respect. His success on YT is because he tells interesting stories, which take a lot of research to put together and put into production and he is a very good storyteller. He deserves his success.

As the daughter of a SEAL, I've always had major respect for Mr. Ballen. He's never disrespectful, grandiose, or talks about things he shouldn't be. Also, he's doing big things with charities and supporting his family! There is NOTHING wrong with that!! The "community" rejecting him needs to take a long, hard look at their own hearts. He served with the top teir elite....he isnt just a veteran. They dont want their culture shared with men and women that didnt earn the right to know what goes on behind the scenes in a SEALS daily life is my guess...and JBA probably didnt realize they would take offense and when he did he stopped....so why are people making a big deal about it? Its none of our business really. If a SEAL says its bad juju....thats exactly what it is.

Mr. Ballen is hands down, in my humble opinion, the best storyteller on KZread. He's magnetic and hypnotic. He doesn't take himself too seriously, but he always shows the utmost respect for the victims who's story he's telling. He's also got a foundation that helps families of victims of violent crime. So not only did he serve his country in the SEALS, he is continuing to serve the people of this country that truly need it. He does it out of the kindness of his heart. He's a great dude as far as I'm concerned. Screw the active duty guys that gave him grief for telling his story. Jealousy is ugly no matter the form it takes, or the person harboring it.

I've always felt that Mr. Ballen is incredibly humble about having been a SEAL. Even when he talks about something objectively amazing that he did, he always frames it in the most low-key way possible. And usually makes someone else the center of the story.

Yea me too. Iv been a fan since 2020 when my young granddaughter turned me onto him. Iv only ever heard him say one time how they saved him when he got blown up. He talks about the strange dark and mysterious and hes mentioned he went thru a really depressing time and started therapy but he never gave anything away .sounds like jealousy to me

my grandfather was a seal and served in vietnam. while he was dying from cancer his only comfort was Mrballen's videos. we would watch them all together as a family. god bless him and his family.

My father joined the Marines as a FIFTEEN YEAR OLD during World War 2. He served for three years in the South Pacific before suffering coral poisoning from rolling down a beach to escape enemy fire and almost died. He was evacuated back to Honolulu where he spent NINE MONTHS fighting for his life, before being medically discharged and sent back to the U.S. His one wish was to be back with his buddies, fighting for this country. Their next assignment would have been either Okinawa or Iwo Jima. My father NEVER considered himself a hero. He NEVER bragged about himself. We didn't find out that he had earned medals for expert marksmanship and sharpshooting until AFTER he died. My father ALWAYS made it clear that the REAL HEROES were the ones who never came back.

Jealousy is ugly. Mr Ballen actually has a foundation and he's doing great things with his success. My husband is a veteran of the Army with 3 combat deployments in less than 7 years active service. For those that haven't seen his channel, maybe 2% of his stories are actually Navy Seals related or tie back to his service. He is a great story teller about the "strange, dark and mysterious". He used to release like 5 videos a week and worked his ass off to get where he is.

Me ballin has an awesome channel and the best personal stories. You can tell he’s a genuine good human. For him to get shunned from that community is a major loss to them and shows peoples true colors. Jealousy is a helluva drug. Keep doing you good sir! Much love from Alaska.

MrBallen is the reason I’m even on KZread or IG shorts. This guy is awesome and for a fact he has a HUGE following he ain’t going anywhere

The only story I've heard Mr. Ballin tell about his time as a seal is when he pretty much got blown up by a grenade and his life was saved by his team members. He made them out to be the heroes, not himself. He acknowledges that he was in the SEALs because non-mil people find that kind of stuff interesting, and his job is literally telling interesting stories, but he's not aggrandizing himself by it.

I've been watching his stories for quite a while and never did he even once tells his audience about how the Navy SEAL train and operate. He shares stories like how beautiful yet how 'quiet and eerie' it was looking out in the open country back in Afghanistan when he was retelling the infamous OP Rock incident. Or how his training mates would reproach him for being a bit hubristic at selection at San Diego and that's about it. He shares harmless stuff that even remotely compromise SEAL's tactical effectiveness in any way. As for his combat experience he never shares it besides how he got depressed after he retired. The amount of hate he is getting from SEALs is beyond me.

Amen. A real community lifts each other up. Jealousy and verbal abuse is lazy. We all feel jealous sometimes but that’s a reminder we aren’t attempting to live up to our dreams, goals or potentials.

Mr ballen has done more for other vets than most other seals. He’s a good guy, he served his country, he spreads awareness, and that makes him a hero in my book.

Others above already beat me to it, but he rarely ever talks about his service time. He tells spooky and strange stories and he's great at it. He needs his own TV channel or radio minute like Paul Harvey had back in the day.

Seals are a very strange group. They are the "Jock`s" from high school. The thing is, they never stop that way of thinking and acting. Btw, becoming a Seal is not as hard as you think. If you have a strong will and you are in good shape, you will make the cut. Tell me this. How many guys who are retired Delta Operators write books or name names. Answer is not many and names are never mentioned, and no mission intel. is ever spoken of.

He's an absolutely amazing person and story teller. He is genuine, empathetic, and just an all around relatable person. Those giving him a hard time are pathetic.

I'm a big MrBallen fan, and I've never heard him tell any stories about being a SEAL. His actual schtick is telling horror stories that actually happened, and he's great at it. That's why he's so popular.

He talked more about being a seal when he was just starting out. You know, to help get the ball moving. So yeah, he definitely traded on the navy seal name early on. Still does a bit. As far as I'm concerned though, he *EARNED* it. He's not doing something to bring shame to the club or anything like that, so who the hell cares. Guy's just trying to make his way in the world and earn an honest living.

This guy took a grenade in battle, lived to see home, and became a successful storyteller on youtube. What's the problem here?

John rocks entertaining others, and he deeply deserves every bit of success. If you listen carefully, an utterly positive, loving and transforming narrative exhudes from the humble core of his hard scrabble benevolent spirit.

Thank you. Such a great video calling out the hypocrisy. Awesome. They ought to be ashamed. Mr. Ballen is so genuine, down to earth and solid. Your analysis is spot on and comprehensive.

Jealousy in the teams is craaazy. Even Goggins found out that another seal created fake accounts trying to spread false stories or discredit him. The toxicity within that community is at par with high school mean girls.

The problem with Goggins was that he sold his extreme brand as a SEAL brand and many of the community thought his service was not enough to be using.

​@@chadhaire1711Ryan and Shipley are kinda hard targets for the jealous ones. Shipley was DevGru and Ryan went to the CIA after the seals. Trying to criticize their records doesn't really work. The jealous ones are going after targets like Goggins and Ballen because their seal records aren't very long or eventful so they're easier targets.

every person who has and currently is serving their country deserve the upmost respect, dont matter what you do before and after serving.

We visit MrBallen channel frequently and we have NEVER saw his storytelling as ego driven on the contrary he has struck us as humble and compassionate.

If all Mr. Ballen did was tell stories in his videos and make a great living I'd still love the guy because he's so genuine and interesting. However, he runs foundations and charities to help people with the money he makes, as well as employs people to run his business. Guy is a legend

He is a genius and just a genuine guy! Especially with his story telling, and even stories that people have already heard, when he tells the story, it makes it so much better! Props to him and his success! Screw the haters that want to whine because they couldn’t handle something that simple! Every day that goes by this world gets more screwed up and more hate etc! If something doesn’t happen soon to turn all this around, it doesn’t matter what you think, we ALL are doomed! God Bless us all!

That entire community should be embarrassed for how they treat their own. Which is way worse than how you would treat anybody else.

Lots of former military, including SEAL's, promote themselves with stories of their service. And when he talks about his service he's very modest about it.

Luckily, he has a much BIGGER community to support and back him now. Congrats John… you deserve all the success you get brother!

Mr Ballen is a class act. IDGAF who says what about him. He is an incredible human that has accomplished things most people could never dream of.

Mr. Ballen is legit. What you see is what you get. He's not pretentious like so many egocentrics out there. He's down to earth and has integrity. He handles hard situations like this with grace.

Ballen in my eyes is one of the best examples of what a seal is suppose to be He is extremely humble and made a connection with millions of people in his community WITHOUT glorifying his military career He healed himself and has healed many more with his selfless actions making youtube videos and making foundations to help others

I'm a former tank mechanic from Fort Irwin N.T.C. I never deployed but help train those who went to deploy. And had the honor of serving on funeral detail. I'm proud of my service.

I’m a Army Infantry combat veteran who invaded Iraq and came back for another tour and I’m proud of my conduct - not my mission. Listening to this guy is like sitting at a bar while some random vet rambles about other people’s stories in an attempt to get free drinks. ‘Heroism is like a river, the deeper it is, the quieter it runs…’

Same but only one tour. Numbers dont mean anything. 15 months in Sadr city from 07-09 with 2 1/2 years at ft polk after that was enough.

John Ballen is a very good speaker. He knows how to clearly tell stories and he's skillfully does it in a way that makes you feel like you are a part of the story or you're there to witness what was happening.
