Update Model Portfolio No. 2 That Beat The Overvalued S&P 500 (Part 2 of 3) | FAST Graphs

The Overvalued S&P 500
On August 24, 2021, Chuck Carnevale, Co-Founder of FAST Graphs, a.k.a. Mr. Valuation, built three portfolios for dividend income with different objectives against the S&P 500. In this video, Chuck will do an update on dividend Model Portfolio Number 2 to see how it’s performed against the S&P 500.
Model 2 is more oriented toward future yield and future dividend income and growth. This portfolio was designed for the younger investor who might be looking at 20, 30 years or more before they would actually start living off the income.
We work hard all our lives for our money, but once we get into retirement it’s time for our money to work very hard for us. That was the idea for this Model Portfolio Number 2, something that could be started in your younger years as you are working towards retirement, then when you finally got there your portfolio would have enough size and enough yield to be able to meet your needs without having to sell any of your stocks.

    Brilliant series and great video as always Chuck! I am really hoping you follow this 3-parter up with a new set of model portfolios now that we are in a similarly overvalued s&p market...

    Hi Chuck Thank you for the recent series, always interesting to have these. I was wondering how long do you wait before making a sell decision from a stock because of the fundamentals deterioration such as per your exemples: BBY, FMC, TSN, BWA ?

    Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to your question. Each situation is different and depends on why the fundamentals are deteriorating. As the venerable Marty J Whitman of the 3rd Avenue value funds so aptly put it and I paraphrase: “I remain impressed with how much easier it is for us, and everybody else who has modicum of training, to determine what a business is worth, and what the dynamics of the business might be, compared with estimating the prices at which a non-arbitrage security will sell in near-term markets.” And "“Unrealized Market Depreciation occurs when the market price of a publicly traded security declines. Permanent impairment of capital occurs when the Fundamental values of a business are dissipated with the consequent long-term adverse consequences.” My point is that once I determine that a permanent impairment of capital is occurring I will leave. However, I am not always right.

    I am hoping your graph tool would show the portfolio over time on a graph like individual stocks. Is that possible? That way you can track in aggregate the overall valuation, earnings, and expected growth of the whole portfolio. That way it can signal to reallocate towards better value prospects. Hopefully you understand. Either way, Chuck you are awesome and an inspiration to all of us.

    I think PSA and AWR are in need of an emergency video on valuation. They are getting quite low in price.

    Why do the orange and blue lines for UGI look completely different in this video than in the Portfolio 1 update? Compare kzread.info/dash/bejne/qaV8j9eOgbjKXdo.html with kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6Z6rsNxYtPNcto.html.

    @@FASTgraphs No, I'm asking about the huge difference in the graphs between today's video and the video from just a few days ago updating on Portfolio 1. UGI is part of both. Why a huge change in how FASTGraphs calculates P/E and Normal P/E over just a few days?

  • @FASTgraphs

    @FASTgraphs

    @@skrambl it is not, in the 1st video you looking at a long-term timeframe with the higher growth rate and the 2nd video this newest one I am showing a much shorter time frame with a much different growth rate. Growth rates determine the valuation over whatever period of time is being drawn. This is a dynamic tool which is 1 of the major benefits.

    @@FASTgraphs Now I see: at the moment I snapshotted from today's video, FASTgraphs was showing the long-term historical graph but plotting P/E numbers calculated from the period 8/24/2021 to present. Thanks for clarifying.
