I remember when Conan Obrien talked about seeing Up in the theater with his kids and how all the fathers were biting their fists and stuff to keep from bawling in front of their kids when Ellie dies, and I thought, 'oh come on.' And then months later I decided to watch it with a date, and when it got to that part I pretended to stretch and lean my head way back so she couldn't see me wiping my eyes. It's some of the most effective storytelling I've ever seen, and anyone who doesn't feel anything must have a stone for a heart.

That’s the reverse of how they cast Finn from Adventure Time. His older brother played the character in the original 2006 Nickelodeon short, but by 2010 when they adapted it into a series, they felt he was too old for it, so they cast his younger brother instead. And so Jeremy Shada became the iconic voice of the series.

My favorite part about the opening is it's totally heartbreaking... from Carl's POV. If you rewatch it thinking about Ellie, you can tell in her final moments that she was totally satisfied with her life. Once she met Carl, it was never about going to Paradise Falls, it was about going to Paradise Falls *with Carl*. Living her entire life in that house with the man she loved was the important bit. Carl realizes this in the end, when he casually tosses out all of his furniture and eventually lets even the house go. They're just things, and they were never the important part of his life with Ellie. She was.

If you don’t cry at the end of the beginning montage, you may have no soul. I cried when I first watched it, but I cried even harder when I showed it to my daughters after my wife, their mother died. Especially because it was only after two natural miscarriages and two failed attempts with IVF that we finally succeeded at having our twin daughters. The reality of the emotions in the montage hit extra hard and personal.

The most amazing thing about this movie is the beginning. It starts out listening to the children about their dream, then for the next 10 to 12 minutes there is not talking, but you know how their dreams are changing just by them laying there looking at the clouds. You learn she can not get pregnant so they start saving for their trip, and how things keep them from their dream trip. How he finally books the trip, and then on the same hill as he is going to give her the tickets to South America, she becomes sick, she goes into the hospital and dies without knowing he had bought the trip. I never have watched a movie which triggered so much emotion without any words being spoken.

Absolutely agree. My all time Pixar top 3 as well, they are Pixar at it’s best imo. I think it’s the recipe. Depict a unique well written narrative, explore some kinda heavy real world themes then juxtapose exciting and interesting characters, and absolutely floor you with vivid stunning visuals. They just give you such a good sense of escapism that is critical for animated movies and it hits the nail on the head. Not that other movies don’t do that too but theses 3 just do it the best.

The first fourteen minutes of _UP_ is one of the best animated shorts ever made. Even if they hadn't made the rest of the movie that intro would have been enough. Since you're "such a goddamned romantic," if you've never seen it you really must watch _Moonstruck_ (1987). It is that rare thing, a non-sappy romantic comedy. More than just a romcom, it is a film about family. It stars Cher, Nicolas Cage, Danny Aiello, Olympia Dukakis, and Vincent Gardenia. Nominated for six Oscars it won three: Best Actress (Cher); Best Supporting Actress (Dukakis); Best Original Screenplay (Shanley).

Up is one of my favorite animations ever, especially due to that montage scene. It is considered one of the best (if not the best) montages to ever grace cinema. It told an entire story without a single word, bringing joy, sadness, excitement, shock, and nearly every emotional experience you can have, with every single switch of the scene. Truly incredible.

When I watched this movie, the part where Ellie and Carl couldn't have a baby really made me emotional and cry because at the time my husband and I were trying very hard to have a baby and I learned that I had multiple fertility issues so I was losing hope that it would happen for me. But little did I know that I was actually finally pregnant when I saw this movie and I found out a short time later!

It shows that the real adventures of life are the moments you have with your people and how our ideas of “Things I’m gonna do” change but are still meaningful and fulfilling. It gets me every single time and when I saw it in theaters I sobbed with all these little kids around me lol
