Up the Stuart to Alice - Our Great Australian Detour

In this episode we continue with our 2000km detour to Alice Springs as we leave South Australia and head north into the Northern Territory. This one is a bit of a short video documenting our trip up the Stuart to Alice Springs. We start with a shortcut through the Gawler Rangers which was a spectacular drive! We wish we has some more time to explore this area, added it to the list of places to come back to for sure! From the Gawler Rangers we arrive at Kingoonya Hotel for a cool beer, then on to the Stuart Highway. First stop was Coober Pedy, we have driven through this town so many times and never got ‘the photo’ so this time, we got the obligatory shot. Coober Pedy is another town still on the list for us to spend some proper time exploring. Finally we spend the night at Agnus Creek rest stop (which was amazing) then on to Alice Springs!
Enjoy! 😊

Haha, yup, the flies were pretty bad, but you get used to them. Was a long week in the car, was so good to stop in Alice for a while! 👍😄

That was certainly a very spectacular 'shortcut', but on the other hand being bogged to the axles on the Central Road would probably add to your travel time somewhat too! The stats were interesting - ouchies. You'll probably find the new tow vehicle will be about the same. Kingoonya was once made famous in a Redgum song called 'The Last Frontier'. When I was a very young and impressionable woman serving in our military it was one of their songs that left me with a thirst to see more of the outback. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4eIpcd-m62_c5c.html Hopefully you managed a little break while getting those licences 🙂

How cool, had never heard 'The Last Frontier' before, interesting to hear Alice referred to as a support hub for pine gap! How times change! We has a great chat with the publican at Kingoonya Hotel but never record that stuff, was good to get back into the NT too! 😀👍

@@VetinaVan Brings back a lot of memories, that song. There were a group of four of us posted to Adelaide who were huge Redgum fans. One gig at The Red Lion pub ended up with dates being mixed up and a very late correction, and I think there were probably ten people there. To their credit Redgum still went on and opened with 'welcome to Redgum's secret gig'. It was a fantastic night. Must see if The Old Lion is still around on our next trip to Adelaide! Enjoy your time back in the NT. Looking forward to your next episode.
