I've always loved this film. It gave Godzilla more character that we missed in the prior entry. You noticed little things about Godzilla, like how doesn't try to attack MG when they first cross paths and only attacks once MG does.

Oh yeah, by a mile. Minilla was a whiny, ugly little turd that made donkey noises constantly. Junior actually looks like his father, can hold his own in a fight (at least by Godzilla vs Destroyah), and is actually adorable. Plus he actually makes cute noises, not high-pitched screeching that makes your ears bleed.

Yeah I like Godzilla Jr so much. Not Baby or Little but Jr from Destroyah. It sounds like in an earlier draft of Son of Godzilla Minya seemed to actually scare some of cast and might have been more fearsome. So I can't help but picture something looking a little more like Jr.

Kizumi has to be one of my favorites among the humans in these movies. He played the goofy character well while not making him seem stupid or incompetent. And I loved the turnaround from Mecha Godzilla being the war engine of an invasion force to being Japan's first real bid to face Godzilla on equal footing. And the idea that this quantum leap in technology came about by reverse engineering 24th century tech makes sense. It's much easier to make something once you figure out how it was made. Plus the continued use of synthetic diamonds in anti-G measures is nice through line the Heisei movies.

It took me a long time to watch this one, for the longest time I wasn't sure if it would be worth watching because MG looked weird and I was afraid Rodan was going to be an afterthought and just a filler. But when I finally watched it I was relieved to see I was wrong and wished I watched it sooner, the drama was perfect and the fights were beautifully done, each Kaiju was given the utmost respect

I am a lifelong G-Fan and this one always gets me with those broad strokes of wisdom. I can show this one to people who claim they would never watch a Godzilla movie. Sho nuff, when it gets to the scene where Baby gets left behind, said people end up feeling guilty they had to choke back a tear. All three Okawara G-films are high water marks for the entire G-film series.

Definitely my 3rd or 4th favorite in the Heisei series. I absolutely adore Baby Godzilla and how he actually resembles his father (unlike Minilla), and this incarnation of Rodan has won my heart. Yes, he's small and he got the short-end of the stick even with his Fire form, but he never stopped fighting to protect his little brother (Baby), even against impossible odds. He was the underdog of this film.

This was my 2nd most watched Godzilla movie growing up, next to "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah." My parents taped it off the TV for me when it aired on the SciFi Channel (Now called "Syfy") and I watched it ALL the time! Mostly because it was one of the very few Godzilla movies I had on video at the time. This, and the 1956 version of "Godzilla, King of the Monsters", were the only two Godzilla movies I had on VHS as a kid (Both taped off the TV). It wasn't until recent years when I finally bought all of my favorite Godzilla movies on DVD off eBay, following the hype of "Godzilla 2014."

In regards to Miki suddenly having a change in character regarding Godzilla, they did a pretty good job building it up throughout the Heisei series. Her psychic bond with Godzilla and later Godzilla Junior makes her empathize with Godzilla, as she sees the tragedy within his origin and she understands why he is the way he is. They had a few moments in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and Godzilla vs Mothra where you can see her showing concern for Godzilla's well-being, and that built up to being a pivotal plot point in this film.

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2 was pretty good, but not as good as the 1974 Version, wish the pacing was better, and I wish it had more substance to what it was trying to achieve. Despite that it was still a worthy entry to the heisei franchise. Give it a 6.8/10

Through the years, this Rodan has really grown on me. I still prefer the 1956 one as far as the design goes, but the character depiction regarding its personality is really well done in this one. He’s a rogue, but a rogue with a heart who ends up (SPOILER ALERT) being the one who makes the ultimate sacrifice.

But in Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla 2, he's - somehow - back! He has slimmed down shoulders and slimmer legs. He's also raising a blue-toned baby Godzilla. This time he's defeated when his butt-brain is destroyed, but he's easily revitalized just moments later.

This is the best of the "vs films" for me honestly. The monsters look great, the story flows well, and the human characters felt more competent and likable than most entries this time around and each served a purpose. Their loss in the first fight was a loss yes, but showed where they needed to improve that could only have been determined after a fight with Godzilla, and the second they won fair and square but just didn't count on Rodan giving his essence. Add that to a good Baby Godzilla and some great action scenes and you've got a great entry.

It's so damn good! Wataru Mimura's script delivers a more nuanced, empathetic take on Godzilla, the story is compelling with inventive set-pieces and engaging characters. It kinda borderlines on Kaiju torture-pron with some of epic damage done by MG, MG is more like a GIGANTIC Super X 2 and they feed baby godzilla a hamburger after saying he's a vegetarian..... but I love it anyways! This was my first Heisei Godzilla film. One of my favourites. Mechagodzilla's design never really bothered me. He's not supposed to look menacing. What bothered me was the fact that this Mechagodzilla was purely range attack and had zero melee abilities. Showa Mechagodzilla, while having quite an arsenal, could still hold his own in a melee fight. I guess Heisei Mechagodzilla represents the Heisei era and it's beam spamming that it's known for.

Damn he was like useless, even with that power upgrade. Must disagree with you about this Rodan's design. I watched this on VHS, loved on the opening theme, and this is the movie that solidified my belief that the captain of the Super X in any Heisei Godzilla film is almost always the best character. As I remember.though, Rodan's name was pronounced "Ra-dan" for some reason, and the title made me think there was a previous film in this series with Mechagodzilla. But, yes, I did mostly enjoy it.

Personally, I think you and many others are too harsh on Millennium and Reiwa entries and way too soft on Heisei. I went in wanting Heisei to be my favorite, but aside from Godzilla 1984, they all greatly disappointed and bored me to tears. And I like bad Godzilla movies. I had a lot of fun with Godzilla vs Megalon and the rest of th Showa series. I even love 1998 for what it is. But the Heisei series? Aside from the very impressive special effects, the monster action and human stories just left me feeling nothing by the time the movie was over. The human characters are typically below average and not likeable or compelling in any way, and the fight scenes have no energy or really anything to them. They get repetitive really fast. The Heisei era to me just felt too safe and too formulaic most of the time, and when they tried doing new and interesting things like Biollante and Destoroyah, it just never left an impression on me. You want a good Heisei series? Watch Gamera. It's truly some of the best in the genre. These movies just feel really weird to watch. Because they take the premise really seriously most of the time, to the point of it becoming boring and uninspired, but at the same time they're goofy as fuck, mainly with the human stories. But it's never in a fun B-movie way, because they're still trying to take it seriously. That's why the humans really suffer. The Showa era, on the surface is much whackier, with pretty dopey looking suits. And that's true for some of them. But movies like Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs Hedorah, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, and Terror of Mechagodzilla all tell very serious and very engaging human stories, but have a fun energy with it. Even less serious movies like King Kong vs Godzilla and Invasion of Astro-Monster still take it seriously and still have a fun time. I also don't know what it is about the old miniatures but seeing them get destroyed just looks better to me than the Heisei destruction. Maybe it's the actual crushing and crumbling rather than flashy explosions? I don't hate Heisei, I really want to love it, but I don't and just can't help but notice how unfairly the fanbase treats it compared to others.

Actually, all things considered, you'd really be able to just jump from this film to Vs Destroyah without losing much, if anything. I can't think of a single plot point in Vs SpaceGodzilla that is really carried over into Vs Destroyah, and as far as the Heisei era is concerned, that's a marked improvement.

Too bad a certain pretentious person by the name of Blunova prefers to mercilessly rip this movie (Along with Godzilla vs Destoroyah and Godzilla KOTM) to shreds without remorse. But to each their own I guess

This movie is amazing, especially with all the monster action. And Godzilla is literally seconds from death when he gets revived by Rodan. Which I couldn't believe when I first saw it. Though I understood later that they had actually planned to kill Godzilla with Mechagodzilla when they first came up with the film, only to change their minds and save Godzilla's death for later. This movie is basically 5 stars in my book. Like 4.8 stars. lol. I think you should have went with half stars in your reviews at least. Because if it is basically a "perfect Godzilla film" then how could it not get 5 stars in your rating system? lol.

I didn't like that either. I think that happened because this movie was originally supposed to end with Godzilla dying, but Toho decided to save that for a later film so then they had to come up with a way to save Godzilla. I'm no expert on this series, but I kind of thought only Mothra could do that sort of thing when she died, since she's mystical.

A good movie whit Godzilla getting development but it has things I did not like. Meachgodzila look stupid nor do I like the idea of him becoming a good guy. Most of all what they did to rodan was unforgiving. They turn him into a loser. He was nothing like the rouge badass from the showa era. It prove modern-day toho did not care much for rodan yet would use him whenever the hell they wanted to use him.

@@GSTE_ explain how Rodan 1956 looked more realistic than Rodan 1993. In almost 40 years they couldn't make a more convincing creature? It's a boring lazy movie. It's immobile statues firing beams at each other. It's pretty bad. Godzilla vs Biollante has better visual effects than every movie that came after it until Shin.

  • @GSTE_

    @GSTE_

@@matthewgramz3648 godzilla vs biollante didn't really have better visual effects, all it was, was biollante shooting vines at godzilla and then godzilla spams his atomic breath and kills biollante, while other movies have godzilla picking up monsters, hitting them, or hitting them with his tail as well as shooting a special atomic breath or new power. And I will say that rodan is pretty stiff, but he was used pretty well in the movie even if he was stiff, his fight with godzilla in the beginning and his fight with mechagodzilla at the end. And rodan in the original wasn't really that convincing either, but he was less stiff, so in mobility he is better, but his design does not look as realistic as heisei rodan. And how is the movie lazy besides not having rodan be less stiff, they have godzilla and mechagodzilla fighting and have lots of things happening in the fights. And they don't just stand there and shoot beams, godzilla did do hand to hand combat a couple of times, and the beams look pretty cool as well as the explosions and stuff.
