And that wasn't scripted. Most things said on talkshows are rehearsed but Norm is a true gem. He just says whatever he wants and it's always witty and funny.

If there were such a thing as winning comedy, that would be a contender.

Conan's reaction to the "charman of the bored" line is just priceless. You can tell he's both delighted and kicking himself for setting Norm up for a perfect lay-up. That entire moment belongs in a museum it's literal media history.

The B-O-R-E-D joke he came up within a few seconds is much better than 99% of the scripted jokes nowadays

"Nine and a half seconds" was even funnier. The B-O-R-E-D was mostly just funny because it was the climax of a series of brutal blows that completely killed the interview. Just when Conan challenged him to make another joke, he drops that one.

Yeah, 4:50 The comedians were freestyling then Conan challenges Norm with that "freak" comment...4:57 an honest to God laugh response from everybody! Conan loses it. Norm WAS a very witty & quick script.

Conan trying not to laugh at a joke about sexually assaulting your unconscious wife is my favorite part.

Norm had a way of making the most blunt and biting remarks without ever coming off as mean spirited. Some of the best comedians like him and Steve Martin are incredibly intelligent, and yet play the fool with a little wink to the audience. The Conan interview with Courtney Thorne-Smith is legendary.

The supermodel was such a good sport.

You should look up Norm’s Bob Uecker story that he told on Letterman. That’s as hard as I’ve ever seen Letterman laugh. His reaction makes the story five times funnier.

Courtney Thorne-Smith was actually in 69 episodes of Ally McBeal just after this, and over 50 episodes of 2 1/2 Men, even though it was no longer a top-rated show. And then starred in the terrible-but-successful show According to Jim. But the quality wasn't her fault.

What distinguishes genuinely funny people is their ability to nail the tiny details which compounds that hilarity of a joke… “Hang gliding” is just such a genius choice in that joke! It works infinitely better than “skydiving” or “meth” etc… because it’s just a subtler more subdued activity and an unusual thrill-seeking activity to mention. It’s the small stuff that counts.

The crystal meth joke is top shelf Norm. Busted a gut laughing first time I heard it.

I never get tired of listening to the witticisms Norm MacDonald. It's like Monty Python Fans. They get to know the Monty Python routines so well, that they can pretty much recite the dialogue of each skit as they're watching them.

Norm is one of the few comedians that can give the same energy of watching an amazing play in sports. Sometimes the build up alone is worth it (moth joke), other times he pulls those quick retorts that feels like watching a Hail Mary catch in the end zone.
