Some things to add…know your property line, because even if you don’t…your neighbors absolutely do. Learn to love the dark at night, it’s not anything like city type dark. Learn to navigate your property in pitch black…as if it were day light. Learn all the sounds after dusk, the wildlife actually communicate a lot to what is in the area…both good and bad Lastly, you will always hear some form of animal (bird, squirrel, coyote, etc) throughout the day…if your property becomes dead silent, be on your toes…for real.
@Oldfashionedmawmaw

You are absolutely correct on that!! I can navigate inside and outside my home in total darkness. I've always made it a habit to count how many steps from bed to bathroom, etc. Even if I go away for a weekend and stay someplace else, I'm counting steps. It could save a life one day.

When we moved into our 200 acres, elderly neighbour's declared we were dumping snow too close to his property line. We were confused because we just bought and had looked at the maps. But sure, we dumped snow further up our driveway. We paid for a surveyor because we thought it would be best to be more aware. Same surveyor was a local doing a bunch all along our road at the same time. Turned out our elderly neighbour had put half his driveway on our land. Other neighbour's laughed about it. We moved here from the city but immigrated originally from rural England, Devon. Our elderly neighbour who had been there 30 years was originally from the city. I don't know about cities but rural England, we love our land surveyor.
My opinion, far too many aren't coming to the country for what the country is but rather they are running away from what they created in the city. I'm justifiably concerned that all these folks will ruin the country just like they ruined the city then the suburbs.

And to keep things at their maximum value, the HOA tries to have the whole neighborhood look HGTV-ready at all times.

Go to Church, not for everyone else, but for God and you; say Grace over meals. Respect everyone, especially the elder and women; use sir and ma'am; if an older person or lady walks in, give up your seat; wave at everyone; invite folks over for BBQ, fishfry, field dress and butcher a deer and donate it to the family down the road; cook a meal for your neighbor when they need it, or when they don't need it, invite them over for dinner. Teach boys to be men and girls to be women. If you see a gun standing in the corner, it's loaded, and all the kids respect it and know how to use it. Don't walk away from an argument, sit down and figure it out with a handshake. If you did someone wrong, take responsibility. If there is work to be done, do it or help the others do it. 100% can confirm. We moved out to the country 18 months ago and our next door neighbors (100 yrds or so away) saved our butts so many times. We also have neighbors who ahoot regularly and we also shoot. Our land is mostly unkempt woods with just some narrow trails so we can walk around and enjoy it. My son and I also now have a tradition of putting out bonfires by peeing on them (once the ladies are inside)
I moved from Kansas to an HOA/CDD community in Florida. I used to have neighbors (always ready to lend a hand). These people are not my neighbors.

Coperheads are okay...not that poisonous, as in say a rattlesnake.

@@The77surfer One of the biggest differences between a Copperhead and a Rattlesnake is the rattlesnake will let you know if you are too close. A Copperhead bite can kill you, if you don't know what to do, if you or anyone else is bitten. Got a snake bite kit?

My daughter carries a 410 for those occasions. My wife has a 38SPL. Of course, I carry the "mobile cannon" (to quote my wife), a 357 S&W 686 w/ 4" barrel.
It's always funny to me when new folks move out here and wonder why they hear so much gunfire.
Thanks Buddy - Former city slicker here. I wish I had moved out here sooner. Especially on the definition of a neighbor out here. I helping my neighbor out when she’s out for surgery on her horse ranch. I love the animals & the physical work - it’s a win-win. Former life - computer nerd, always indoors, packed freeways. New life I’m so much happier.
160acres in Northern Ontario near Sudbury. Wild deer, bear, moose, fox everything. Neighbour keeps bees and has a massive stone quarry he lets me use for a shooting range. We all help each other. Cattle ranchers, hay farmers etc. Stewards of our land sure. Hit the mark on this one Buddy!⭐

The biggest comment I have heard here in Florida as a multi generational Florida is why don't you do it like we did it up in New York or Michigan. This is not up there it's down here and we love it that way.

You are a rare bird these days. Almost everyone in Florida, except maybe in the panhandle, is from somewhere else and that’s been true for many decades. My hat’s off to you.
Nice truck, I've got one of them but mines a GMC K2500. I'm a rural old bastard, no shits given or taken, but I'd give my neighbors anything they needed.
I live in the Wisconsin north woods and I see people from Chicago come up here every summer. they just don't know how to act, they make people up here not like them so much.

Agree with all of what you said! We are having the problem of so many people moving in and building in the rural towns in the mountains of NC they are causing property taxes to skyrocket and generational families are having to sell the farms and large tracks of land.😕 The same problem forever will be people moving to the country then trying to make it where they left because we are not fancy enough.
You not only speak the truth, it is also true that bartering skills and resources is paramount. "Fix my pump and I'll fix your fence."
To many city people try and tell us country people how to lived when they get out of the city.
"On your toes like Danny Devito at a urinal" is a beautiful Mississippi metaphor 😅😂😁👍
I live in a rural area in Tennessee and my newest neighbors "Noticing by their license tags" Are from California and another from New Jersey. I can smile and wave and they just drive by me with a poop eat and die stare. Well, Good luck getting any help from anybody around here because word gets out fast.
I wish I'd lived in the country, but due to my age and my. Health I think where I am is the best. In my head, I'm still living in the country.😊
I had an identity crisis for a while, I went from living in the country to living in the city!! I was a country hick then a city slicker!! I finally got my head out and decided I wanted to be a country hick!! I couldn’t be happier!’ I got away from the noise , night lights and, the crime !! I just want to be left alone and I don’t need anyone telling me what to do!! On my own property , I’m not looking for trouble just peace and quiet but if you are looking for trouble you will find it!!’

The question is, will there still be enough space in a few years for everyone who wants that lifestyle. Even with people having fewer kids these days, it’s bursting at the seams everywhere I go. They are building up in the cities, tearing out suburbs and building apartments and townhouses, and building suburbs in the rural areas. Every day another forest gets leveled in places where my family members live.
Nope don't want them Don't need them they need to stay right up there in that city cuz nine out of 10 of them that I meet down here in the country can't get rid of that city mindset
I live in the panhandle of Florida and have a Yankee neighbor who calls the sheriff every time he hears a gun shot! He’s on a first name basis with all the dispatchers and deputies now and he’s only been hear 3 months!

Same problem in SRC Fla. I have a 100% legal safe set up. She has been told several times by the investigating Deputies. But she calls anyway.
When we moved to the country when I was 8 years old, everyone hated us and all the kids constantly ganged up against me at school. I went one time, to play at some kids house down the road, and his mom sent me home with a note, to never come back. Because my mom was a single hippie woman. I had no friends, and did not do one damn thing all summer long, until I was 12, and started hitch hiking into town 5 miles away to wander around by myself. It was not good times at all.
When we moved into our new place in the sticks, one of our neighbour's told us about another "import" that they knew - they started complaining about the dust from the gravel road, power being out now and then, nothing to do, having to drive into town to pick up something and finding it was not stocked, too much snow and on and on. It got to the point where this individual was told to move da F---- back to the city and he did🤣 With the right mindset, living in the country is my Xanadu. When I lived in the city myself, I would return the neighbour's dog and now liiving in the country, I return my neighbour's horse when he gets out - I would not change it for the world.
We moved from a city out to the country. The first tip a neighbor gave us was when you go into town to buy 1 thing, make sure you get 2. Now we have a full pantry and only go into town once a week 👍🏻😀
We have new transplants. Showed up at town hall demanding a 7 million dollar aquatics center and a 1 million dollar pickle ball court. Yes. You read that correctly. Go back!!!!!!!

I was lucky enough to grow up in the rural south in middle Tennessee....thank you lord for that.....wanted comment on helping thy neighbor....and although this story is before my time ....when grandfather was able to finally afford a tractor to farm his land with instead of mules ....his neighbor and him got together ...both owning around same size farm 100 plus acres.....neither one could afford to buy a tractor and all the implements needed to maintain and do the style farming they both did back then it was cattle and tobacco.....so when they did buy tractors .....one bough a hay rake and a mower or cutter ....the other bought a hay Bailer and a water/ futerizer spreader ....and my grandfather would cut and rake his farm then go cut and rake the neighbors while he bailed my grandfather's....and same went for other implements .....they shared them so to speak so both could better farm their land ......get out talk to your neighbors.....and in turn be a good neighbor......you will never feel regret helping thy neighbor...
And remember, don't vote for Communists.
Moved back to small town in Idaho from Fresno, California after 29 years...Love it.

I've two neighbors each from the city. The first thing #1 did was put up a 6 foot chain link fence around his 4 acres. #2 went a chopped down 6 beautiful apple trees and filled his yard with junk. Both of them leave lights on 24/7. They are afraid of the dark.

Any old 11B would know better. His house mouse? Nope. Might take a while to train her. No.1 Leave the door open for your dogs to come and at night. If the dogs weight less than 60 lbs each. They are a rat chasers. No 2. Do not turn on the lights to see what they are barking at. No. 3 The dogs will show you where to look. No. 4 Whup them kids for messing around in your bedroom where you keep the guns. When you are sure they get it. Keep them loaded. No.5 You ain't in the city. The nearest set of blue and white lights could be 30 miles or further. No. 6 I miss living in the country. Training the city born house mouse? Might take a while.

It’s funny, because I’ve been surprised at how many country people keep their yard lit up like a stadium at night. In the suburbs some people have security lights, but they don’t run them constantly. If they are turned on then they are usually on motion sensors.
Raised in the country, (Texas) after serving in the Air Force moved back with my wife, started a family and we homeschool .. built a nice gun range to show the kids gun safety etc.. a “neighbor “ about 10 acres away, about 5 months ago shouted, “ you have neighbors a$& hole!” Much different types of people around here then when I was younger
I watched a channel, quit after this, the UPS driver pulled over on the half a mile to this guys, "Homestead." His nose was out of joint because the driver pissed, "on his lawn." It wasn't lawn, it was wild land.
You are so right. Respect is magical. Keep up the awesome work and God bless.
😅 Buddy nailed this one. I moved to Alabama 19 years ago because i saw stuff coming. I only committed one of these mistakes 😂 plus im a quick study and melted right in👍 Now my neighbors call me Damn Yankee ❤ cause I aint leaving😂😅

When they call you a damn yankee it's a good thing...you're in. If they call you a yankee...run!
People are changing here in the south. Not many folks want to help one another anymore. It’s a shame.
I go fishing in the country. Small town in Indiana and the guy I rent the boat is about two miles east from the resort on the SE side of the lake. He says he would send one of his kids to pick me up and I decline. Walking there is peaceful as hell and every car coming by me waves hello 👋. That tells me I’m out of the city. 🎣
Amen Buddy! If strangers come through? Keep an eye on them for yourself and your neighbors. There has to be a good reason to be around. Or they dont have any business being around.
We have a few acres of land outside of Baton Rouge, and we always have something that needs to be done. Im planting some vegetables tomorrow and getting the ground ready for it today. I was raised with the belief that helping my neighbors was just the right thing to do. If someone is broke down, you stop and help them.. If someone's boat is broke down, you tow them to the landing. Not for money, but because it's the right thing to do. Love your vision of One Nation Under God. Thanks, Buddy.
I am born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and I have the same mentality as you buddy. Thank you so much for this video. It’s amazing.
Preach it! I live 2.5 hours east of DFW, they’re flooding our area! From DFW and California! Constantly feel like I’m getting looked down on until they get stuck and have to ask me for help.
💯! Had a new neighbor put pink ribbons on every tree to mark their lot...the tell me that our target shooting was unnerving. And we should let her know if we were planning on shooting next time. I politely let her know that the country might not be for her.
So much common sense coming out of this man's mouth. He speaks Truth, I was born and raised in a Tiny place called Avon Indiana NOONE knew where it was. Now the suburbs swallowed it up. I don't even recognize it anymore, round abouts every other road. Sickening🤮let the country remain country, we don't need a 12th elementary school or anymore trees cleared for another neighborhood with landlords. Yep you have a landlord with those hefty HOA fees you sign up for, They can seize your house if you get to many violations or don't pay those dues. Leave the country alone.
"Pee in your yard" I do that NOW in the suburbs! LOL 😆
On back roads, wave to every oncoming vehicle by holding up your index finger on the steering wheel.
Also: ticks

Sounds like you could use a flock of guinea fowl! We have them, and every year the tick population around our house gets noticeably smaller... but if I walk ten minutes up my road to where I have my gardens, there's still loads of them!
We have a lot of people from California and Oregon moving here, and I swear the first thing they do is start griping about how we do things. Guarantee they're going to start voting the way they did to turn this place into toilet they moved from.

Hell, YES!
I miss it. Im 59 and was raised on a 240 acre farm and have always lived rural most my life. Came back to family farm for 10 yrs to take care of my aging dad and help take care of farm. It was going to be my retiring place, then dad up and told me he was selling it. Wrecked me when that happened. I bought a 30 acre place in the same area. Lived there 10 yrs, thought we had it paid off and found out our mortgage company didn’t give us the correct payoff quote. Got is into a bad legal bind and we lost that farm last year. I live in a 40ft RV now in town and fighting stage 4 cancer. Huge change but I will always long for the country. Things happen for a reason, you just have to trust God and Jesus Christ my friend. His plans are always perfect.
Great video Buddy. Miss living in the country. Lived on 34 acres in North Florida. Had to move up North due to my father recovering from cancer and helping family out. First time I've lived up here in 27 years.
Well buddy, you know what’s funny about you posting this video now is my wife and I along with our four daughters are getting out of South Florida to move up to Alabama to get away from just how many people have moved here. We’re looking forward to getting out in the country and growing our own stuff. We’re actually in the process of renovating the house we just bought before officially moving in.
Excellent input.
I moved to MT back in 1973 from the suburban Midwest. It was a cultural shock. It took a while, but I remember one day about a year and a half after my move, that I looked up into the summer evening sky and realized, "There's no place in the whole wide world I'd rather be than here". I had become a Montanan.
Hear you buddy. Love the country life.
Perfect episode Buddy
I was raised on a small farm in Germany... with very similar rules! 😄 Love it!
The first one is a major reason I want to live in the country. I want my front yard to look like Johnny Depp's in Secret Window. Not one blade of grass, just trees.
Love your Backwoods Wisdom. Thank you for sharing. God Bless
All of us on our private road help each other out. I burned some diesel to grade out and drag our pot-holy quarter mile. I got some firewood in return. Didn't ask for it. It just showed up. It's how we roll. And we do have a neighborhood unwelcoming committee for those special occasions.
I’m the scary Marine that lives down at the end of a private dirt road. Thank you for this video. Hopefully any city slicker planning on moving out here will watch this video first.
I've always said home is as far as I'm willing to back up!!! I'll do all I can to get along as best I can until I get home! Once I get home then it's up to everyone to get along cause now I'm home!
