Unresponsive Key Arturia Keystep | Fixed!
Музыка
In this video, I will try to fix my Arturia Keystep. One of the keys on this midi keyboard doesn't work anymore.
This very simple procedure might fix this issue and this video might also give you an idea of what you could try should you run into a similar problem.

This gave me the confidence to take apart may Keylab 61 essential. One diode had some green (like bad batteries) so I cleaned that. It's fairly similar to the Keylab though the sensitive strip has screws from above, and it takes a long time to properly get the rubbery keys back. I pulled each 'prong' from the underneath with small pliers. I cleaned that with surgical spirit (the UK name for medial and alcohol solution for cleaning). I started with 2 keys not working, and ended up with 11 not working! After trying the whole thing again 8 keys don't work now. Oh, don't I feel bad after all that work. I'm hoping to find what went wrong once I've regained some enthusiasm. But your video was good. It was just me!
I had 5 or 6 keys not working on mine. After watching your video I was able to fix mine too. Thank you

So I watched this because mine has like six keys that don't work, and am I understanding right that there's just cleaning and reassembly here?
Thank you so much for your simple but extremely effective video. It worked for me…perfectly!
Thanks for this. I got all my keys back. I found it a little easier to take out the larger-headed screws that hold the case together first and then take the keybed off the back after detaching the ribbon cables.
Many thanks for the clear video! Sub'd + Like'd My fix experience: No need to remove knob caps Remove the larger headed screws first (as @BCThunderthud said) Remove metal base Take photo of connector ribbons just in case Remove two ribbons Remove 10 x smaller screws Remove 4 x smaller screws from keybed contact board Carefully prise board from the 4 retaining clips, a little bit on each clip until board is loose Clean all gold contacts with 99% Isopropyl alcohol (the contact on my failed Bflat had slightly more carbon deposit than the others) Didn't bother removing or cleaning the rubberised contact points, except to remove a hair! Gently prise board back into place, replace 4 screws Reconnect the two ribbons and test - it works! Disconnect two ribbons again *from the top board* before reverse re-assembly
Thanks! Without your video, I would have never dared open it and disconnect the cables inside. I was able to fix it 🙏
You had the same unresponsive key as me! Thanks for the vid man!
Cant believe it worked! thanks so much

You're welcome! Good luck 👍
Thanx bro !! 👍✨
Thanks
I had a similar issue with my keystep pro, but even 99% IPA wouldn't fix it. If anything, it made it worse, leading to more unresponsive keys. Had to get the heatgun out and reflow the solder of the components on the back of the keyboard PCB, wash the contacts with soapy water and give it a good dry. Also noticed the ribbon cable had some bent metallic strips, so had to straighten them out. Only then it worked perfectly.
Nice you save my keystep
Was on the brink of replacing mine and found this video, one less thing to spend money on now!
Thanks! Please tell me, which part of this keyboard gives it the main weight? Is it possible to reduce its weight?
I just had a troublesome key. Will take it apart. Thanks not too bad a job I guess
I have a brand new 88 key. Bought like 3 weeks ago and it a key already stopped working
Mine has just developed same issue and same key.
