Unreal overtaking in a Jaguar Mk1 at Goodwood
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Normally at Goodwood this rather special Mk1 Jaguar would be sliding all over the place in the most outrageous way... not here though. For the 2004 edition of St Mary's Trophy Part 2 Grant Williams held this awesome Jag relatively steady as he plowed through the opposition including one Rowan Atkinson!

“Y’all”? Seriously? Are you from Birmingham, England, or Birmingham, Alabama?
As a 10-year-old boy growing up in a small town in Ontario, Canada, I wondered why my Dad's Jaguar Mk 2 got so much attention. Probably because it was the only Jag within 100 miles. My Dad never drove fast with me on board except for one time, on the twisty river road en route to our summer cottage. This enormous Mercury sedan planted itself on our rear bumper and tailgated us mercilessly -- the driver wanted to race. After a minute or so my Dad said, "To hell with this!" and downshifted. The following couple of minutes were sheer exhilaration as the Mercury dropped out of sight and that compact Jaguar sedan glided through the corners, never crossing the centerline, like the thoroughbred it was. I'm retired now and have owned four Jaguars.

Jaguar Mk 2 is smaller than a Mercury sedan for sure but I'm not sure the word 'compact' springs to mind about the MK2.

Jag MK1 & MKII were highly underrated as performance cars in the US. I raced a MKII in the '60s both at the drag strip & autocrosses. I gave up the drag racing as it got boring, winning every week. They pitted me against a Shelby GT500 in an autocross. Only lost by a couple of tenths. BTW, I finally traded the old girl for a Corvette to go racing in SCCA.
Absolutely LOVE this racing...all those wonderful Jags, and an A35 wins!!! Nice video, good camera work and placement, and an announcer who is totally excited about what's happening. THIS is real racing!

Great driving from the a35, but almost feel sorry for grant in the jag. He deserved to win that day, if only for his beautifully entertaining driving

A Grant Williams master class on how to race a late 50's compact Jag saloon!
That was a very cool battle! Love vintage racing. More please.
The ideal villans car if you'd ask me, so gorgeous.
Magnificent essay in car control. Big heavy cars on narrow tires put on quite a show. Great fun.
Bravo les Britanniques pour organiser de telles courses!

Mark I & Mark II Jaguars most beautiful sedans the firm ever made, maybe that any firm ever made.
That's some goddamned great driving.
This category is by far my favourite one to watch. I just love watching them late spec and the hang the tail or four wheel drift. Absolutely magic stuff.
It doesn't get any better than this .
Absolute skills! forget modern cars, it takes real skill to race one of these beasts. Being able to slide/control/brake/slide/exit is something that most modern race drivers could not do in one of these cars. Real skill.
The A-Series engine is very highly developed. In a lightweight car, it offers an excellent power-to-weight ratio.
Now , how often did you see an A35 beat a Jaaaaaag on the A1 ?
Great driving..fantastic cars...
How to make an A35 as wide as the track! Awesome drive
MAN THOSE JAGS ARE SO COOL !
Simply wonderful stuff!
Fabulous driving and race
That is awesome that is freaking awesome I would love to do that! Those cars are meant to be driven and driven hard they were the performance cars of their day and they should be raced I think it's awesome if I could afford one I'd get one my hat's off to the driver he's working that thing I bet he was wore out when that race was over too LOL
Hahaha A35 Had one once Didn't think I would see the day one would take a checkered flag unless there was a whole field of A35s Also remembering the Great Peter Brock's A35 . Not standard. Well done you guys for keeping the old gear going and racing 👍😎

Peter Brock's Diamond Valley Speed Shop "A30" (we got the A30 in Australia, not the A35) was a "silhouette racer" - being a spaceframe powered by a big-horsepower Holden 179 cu in straight six. With the short wheelbase and ultra low weight, only Peter Perfect's preternatural skills could "keep it on the island". Vale Peter who died a few days after the long-haul flight back to Australia after racing an "FX" at Goodwood Revival over a hectic weekend.
Love this stuff.
Just fabulous stuff !..
Having got a ride with Grant at Goodwood my suspicion of welded rear axle was confirmed
Love the diversity in these old time proper races. You want to race a two ton tank or a washing machine on overdrive; no problem.
BUY 1 is or was a John Coombs car.. i lived a stones throw from their garage in Guildford, Surrey. I owned a Coombs MK 2 in Carmen red. Long gone, well missed.

I hard to do a google search on Alvis. That number 4 car in the beginning is a beauty! Its like a miniture gothic car.
Jolly proper car racing when cars were men and men were cars. Get out of my way A35. Love it. And little red A35 beats the Jaguar!
That’s real car racing at its best :)
Plate says "BUY 1", I wish I could mate, I really do.
Great stuff. Simon Taylor, was that you? When are you coming back to Phillip Island?
Now there's a someone who knows how to drive
That guy can drive !!
looks like a wider matk two rear axle ? i remember on mark ones in the sixties and the mark one had a shorter width axle with spats held on with turn buttons? better wheel base for cornering .
Put these cars to race seems more indecent than watching a softporn with a beautiful young lady from the past who was "strangely" recorded with HD cameras. Maybe that's why I like it.
The Jag did great, but at the end I was pulling for the little red pipsqueak to hold on.😊
fantastic

Grant Williams aka big balls.
Huh. .that crappy A35 thing was pulling away from the jag in a straight line. . Jeez what's it got under the bonnet?
It's a heavy machinery
I need an explanation of how a 1700 pound car that has an engine with a stock hp rating of 78hp could possibly outrun that Jaguar. Even if somehow an engine with only THREE main bearings could make 140 hp reliably which would be nearly DOUBLE the factory stock high performance horsepower rating I still cannot see it overpowering that Jaguar that should have around 315 hp or so......maybe a bit more either way easily more than DOUBLE the horsepower a 77 cubic inch high performance A+ A35 engine could make with racing modifications.
Krass wie schnell der Austin A35 ist.
I would not be surprised if the A35 had a HOT ie Cooper or Cooper S engine. ( yes i know you can not make a FWD Mini rear drive, well not easily anyway ).

The A series engine came out in the A30 later in the Morris Minor is the same in the cooper s as in 1275 MG Miget just different crankshaft flange at the clutch. I expect they use Morris Major diffs as A30 axles were weak
