    Hi Steve. Thanks for commenting and Dad would've been incredibly humbled by your comments - he was just a normal bloke and always thought how lucky he was, so made sue he put a show on for the marshals and spectators, who either gave up their time for free ot paid to watch. Cheers.

    Gregor, thank you so much for posting this as your dad was a real hero for me as I was growing up (64 now!). I first met Gerry at the Racing Car Show in 1972 (I think?) when after a nice chat he actually let this random spotty kid sit behind the wheel of 'Old Nail', his special saloon Firenza! After that he was 'The Man' as far as I was concerned, sod F1, I was on the bus from Croydon to Brands at every opportunity to watch my hero racing the Firenza and later Baby Bertha against the likes of Nick Whiting, Tony's Strawson and Lanfranchi et al followed by a few drinks together in the Kentagon (as I got older!), great times and frankly a great era of racing! Thank you so much for re-kindling those memories and though your dad has sadly passed be assured his memory will live on forever, a true gentleman with more car control than a full grid of BTCC 'heroes'! All the Best, Steve

    Fantastic, better than F1, Nascar, Indy and V8 Supercars all rolled together. I spotted an Anglia, a Zephyr, a Renault Alpine or Dauphine I think, a swag of Cortina's, a couple of old Merc's.... great stuff.

    It doesn't seem that long ago that Gerry, Tony "Moscvitch" Lanfranchi, Whizzo Williams et al were with us, and then they were gone in what seemed like the blink of an eye. I for one remember them fondly, and I do believe that John Rhodes is still with us, in his 90s. I loved Gerry's column in Car and Car Conversions Magazine, his humour really shone through.

    Time flies, Tony was left 17 years ago and Dad 16 years ago :( Yes, John Rhodes is still with us and I keep in touch with his son. Dad's CCC columns were great 'From The Hot Seat', but they started in 1971 - 50 years ago!! I have all of Dad's columns, as he wrote for CCC, then MOTOR and then Autosport, all very funny :)

    Hey Gregor - your Dad was my boyhood hero and he still is this to this day - he proved in no uncertain terms that a big lad who liked a beer and a laugh could succeed at the highest level I loved the Berthas of course - but my abiding memories are of him in the V8 Tuscans - unbelievable the way he could control those monsters I know of nobody else who is held in such high esteem in my group of motorsport nutters Bless his memory - the world was lucky to have seen him

    I thought I was watching the race from 1964 until I saw Gerry at the end. The cars, names , drivers, crowd, the weather, Murray Walker, lots of puddles and no run off areas. Looks like it was on film and the overall effect helped by the 480 resolution. Way cool

    I only have 2 autographed race Programmes - both signed by Gerry. The first was one I was just a kid, the second not far off 30 years later when Gerry was at Shelsley Walsh in July 2003. I'm sure he had a walking stick by then and when I asked him to sign my programme it brought a smile to his face.

    That's lovely to hear - I didn't have anything signed when Dad passed away, not something you ask your own Dad for but I've managed to buy a few on ebay, etc. Dad would have been on sticks at Shelsley, he had been on sticks for a few years as needed both knees replacing, got them done and was able to walk without sticks for the first time in years but then tripped over and broke his hip and had to go back on sticks and timings sound right. He did get his hip replaced and was then back to normal before he passed away 🍻

    Hi David. In the UK there are lots of different clubs, series and championships, all with their own regulations and depending on the regulations, depends on what you are allowed to race, so it really depends. There are championships just for V8s, for pre 1966 and for heavily modifed cars with different than original engines, so it really depends.

    It's called RAIN-X. Used to come in a yellow (double) bottle, cream cleaner applied first, wiped off, then the rain-x was wiped over. I used it in the eighties. Seemed to work up to a certain point, enabled the water to form into beads large enough that the slipstream grabbed them and pulled them upwards and away.

  • @GregorMarshall96

    @GregorMarshall96

    I still use it today, on the exterior of the windscreen and they also do an anti-fog for the interior (in a black bottle) that I use also. Never needed windscreen wipers in the wet...yet 😉
