Do you think it's possible to help people that are like this grow out of their manipulation or is it a core immutable part of their character? In other words, is it always the right thing to walk away from someone who shows these signs or is it possible that you can help them recognise the tactics as destructive and unhealthy without having them think that you are weak and naive for doing so? I ask because I'm reluctant to turn my back on people - if I exclude them from my own life then they will just move on and cause problems for other people. On a systems level, cutting them off doesn't improve the net health of society.
