I am old. "Back in the day" guys like this we're on HGTV, it wasnt all decorating BS. Bob Vila was one. He's old now too.

I am a finish carpenter & I think your greatest statement is : Anyone can do it? I actually do not do much of them cause I more or less do tons of cabinets and built ins ! And anyone can do it! Good video you are a very talented teacher ! Thk you my friend!

Extremely informative! This is how these videos should be made.

damn damn damn! Nothing better than watching someone who is actually good at the job! You're some last OG GC's that actually know how to do the work! I hate working for the paper GC's that don't know anything about actually building anything. Since you're already using trim head screws on the jamb. You can get the trim head screws with the reverse thread by the head of the screw. I use them as shim screws. Super easy to micro adjust. I plumb the top and bottom & then straight edge the field like you. Then I'll back up with the shims.

Awesome demonstration!!! Avid DIYer who has done 3 pocket doors on a concrete slab and the challenge is the know-how to adapt them to the site. Only thing I would have liked to see is how the electrical box on the pocket-side was re-installed. I'm planning on doing double pocket doors in an interior wall into a kitchen and one pocket side must have switches for 2 lighting circuits. 2x4 walls and am doing my research for a clean & safe way to run the cables.

Easiest way to take out electric staples is jamming a flathead screw driver behind wire and wriggle it up or levering it on the stud.

4x6 header in a non-load bearing wall? Curious for the reasoning for that? I've only ever installed Johnson Hardware pocket doors and the weight of the door is carried between the jack studs, so the header can be basic (unless it's load bearing). I'm assuming you're wanting this header to be ridged and carry the load of the door and frame?

I thought your video would show what I could expect to find in my wall cavity once I cut out the drywall. Great job. I have had a pocket door for about a year now. I have watched a few videos of installing the units. All of them showed an assembled pocket door being installed. I am not a carpenter. I have been trying to level my pocket door. You showed how to assemble the door. that made a big difference. I turned my door the right way up and assembled it. Now I have to decide my exact placement. Tanks for a fantastic instructional video.

I have almost the same issue. I have electronical on bothsides of wall were the pocket is locaded. Can electronical be on pocket side if protected or will it all have to be moved to the door side? (I have on both right and left of the dooer face and on the back side on the left side).

Outstanding! This is a very effective instructional video showing how the process actually occurred as opposed to someone just walking you through the steps in a theoretical situation. You will inevitably run into the many problems, like he did with wiring and nails sticking out and things not being plumb. Which typcally won't be on a theoretical checklist. Really adds to the value. I was finding this a daunting task to start. It IS cumbersome with lots of little details. But this type of video gives me the confidence that I can do it. The tricks on one-person install were also extremely helpful. Thanks very much!!

Really good video, and timely. I need to add pocket doors in my unfinished basement. In one area, however because of the I-beam support, the overhead height is lower. How do I shorten the height of the pocket door assembly? Thanks for all the great instructions!!!

A great video appreciate it. How did you solve the electrical problem that you just created? Specifically, you had wires, outlets and switches that needed to be moved. Where did you put them now that the pocket door is in the way? Anyway to get a follow up on that?

The pocket door frame kit I picked up from Home Depot was supposed to have everything I need (according to reviewers) but didn't come with the 3/4" door jamb piece. I guess I'll need to pick one of those up before installing?

If you already had a door in the opening just use one of the jams from that door. Or buy a new jam.
