Just as Eckhart said at the end, the mind will try to construct thought processes we don't need. Do recognize it as a 'mental' breakdown, which can be a good thing, because you can let go & surrender your mental thoughts & be present. You're lucky to have a dog to bring you back to presence. Be at peace.

A veteran NYC detective talked about sobbing uncontrollably as his dog took it's last breath in his arms after seeing the car responsible for it's death pull it up into the wheel well and eject it out the back. He explained how startled he was by his own reaction because in all his years working in homicide, he was never wounded to the core like this. Our dogs truly become the closest reflection on earth of our inner child that we'll ever know in our lifetime.

I listened to this talk when it was released a couple of weeks ago, I never thought I'd be having to take my Border Collie to be euthanised so soon. He was somewhat unwell, but his condition deteriorated rapidly over the Easter weekend and he has passed over now. He was an incredibly loyal sidekick, a zen master in disguise and touched many hearts being such a gentle soul. The feeling of watching the vitality leave his eyes in a matter of a few seconds after the euthanasia solution was administered was very strange, but I certainly don't have any doubts or guilt about the choice made for him. I just miss my best friend.

This is similar to what has happened to me💔. So sorry for your pain, I understand it. My beautiful soul dog 14 year old border collie deteriorated over easter, after a long health battle. He crossed the rainbow bridge on Monday 8th April, I stroked him, talked to him and looked into his eyes until his last breath. It felt surreal, the hardest goodbye. My experience as well with my precious boy, having our morning ritual. It actually helps set the tone for the day. He is turning 14 this year and I've become more present. I still yearn for my female feline, she was definitely a gift from source and she was the only one that survived the entire litter. She saved my life through my own inner turmoils. I wept while reading everyone's messages. Even though the form dissolves, love is infinite and lives within each cell of our being. Much love to everyone who has/had the chance to be blessed with our furbies. Humanity is slowly but surely, understanding that each and every one of us, are all one consciousness ❤❤❤

My deepest condolences to the woman who asked the question about her dog, as well as to others who've lost their beloved pet. It's been my experience as well, and it's heartbreaking. I agree that by euthanizing an animal is out of compassion and love, to free them from their suffering. It's the same where more humans are being approved for assisted death to relieve them from their suffering. Death may take a life, but it can never end the relationship you had with that life. I believe their soul are always there with you.❣️

I am so sorry for this lady. I lost my dog in 2022. We were encouraged to put him to sleep, but my partner refused. I was so shook by the fact that he was dying that I lost my will. If it wasn't for my partner, I would probably have done what the vet advised, because I had a breakdown. The dog only lived a week longer. During that time we managed to take him to a specialist clinic, and sought a second opinion. We also managed to say goodbye to him properly. To be with him as much as we could, I cherish those few extra days that we stole for him. He appeared quite comfortable overall, even slept with his belly up. When a subsequent attack came, we knew we couldn't save him. We took him to the vets only so that he was not suffocating and so that his passing was made easier. But every time I think about it, I'm grateful that we didn't have to take his life. I know that sometimes that's what you have to do, every situation is different, but I think that vets shouldn't push euthanasia, but leave more room for the owners to come to terms with the diagnosis.

Eckhart focused on the concept of death in general in this example which was great, and briefly touched on the mind activity the woman was experiencing at the end (perhaps because he believed she should know better by now). She claimed she was being present but it's obviously not the case, and she seems unaware of it. She knew she made the choice to let her dog rest out of love and to alleviate suffering, but her egoic / compulsive mind kept pulling her back into ruminations of guilt, suffering, etc. This is the perfect time to truly be present, sit with the facts, feel your emotions/grieve, but not let your mind run wild and torment you.

When they all pass into the animal spirit dimension we miss them a lot and feel an emptiness in their absence. And yet I find there is nothing more soothing than replacing them with a new born puppy or kitty cat which will simply fill that space and bring more comfort, unconditional love, and much joy into our lives again. My husband and I are feeling guilty about helping our 15year old Springer Spaniel cross the rainbow bridge in a couple of days because although his body is broken his zest for life is still strong. We know we have to do the right thing for him even though he seems as if he wants to milk every second from life even though he has a broken body. Thank you Eckhart and the lady asking the question as we felt immense comfort from watching this. I am at peace letting him find peace as I see his presence each time he looks at me and know his energy will always be around. Animals are a great teachers and very inspirational and I feel blessed to have had our boy around for so long . We were also blessed with his brother a Cavalier King Charles who also milked every second out of life and held on until we had to help him cross the rainbow bridge ages 16 in 2016.

Witnessing, seeing, observing the light of consciousness before dissolution of the form is necessary for the dissolution not to be heavy for the bearer. First one needs to see the light within & without then you can see it in your dog too. No doubt they are great guardians❤❤

When I knew my dog was going to pass, I met human form with the same essence. I was so fearful that I was never going to get that connection I have with my dog and then out of no where I meet someone who had the same essence. Made me realise we can feel that unconditional love through human form, you just need to be that form yourself.

Eckhart said that putting the dog to sleep was the compassionate thing to do, and I agree....too bad we can't be as compassionate with humans...my mother lingered on for so long in a semi vegetative state, was nonverbal, and had a haunted look in her eyes; she only "let go" and died at the age of 97 when I said to her a few days before, "Mom, your birthday is coming up, why don't you go be with God"

The mistake here is in naming an animal. Most animals can give love if they are raised with love and respect. Look into the eyes of a cow or a deer and you will see an abundance of love and no ego.

I agree about not giving them a name, and I think dressing a dog up in wooly clothes like a sweater is a horrendous thing to do. The poor dog might want to scratch itself on a certain itchy spot but it can't, and the dog might feel overheated or baked with the thing on it. Yet people who do that are unconscious of how the dog feels about it.
