PurpleLizard 23 I think anti-drugs: At the end of the video they start clawing each other's eyes out/attacking each other. Plus the song has "necessary evil" in it. In the beginning they're on "a high" both in love and taking drugs (as the song says "I'm in love and I don't care" and the couple takes drugs- by the end of the relationship, they have "withdrawal" and start attacking one another and the singer keeps repeating "necessary evil". Like it's necessary for people to wakeup after a false high. Drugs make you see what you want, not what's actually there.

I've noticed a lot of his songs are kind of "drug ambivalent". Another example is "acid rain". It's kind of fascinating. It feels like he intentionally places these dark undertones to his drug references, and just kind of glosses over them. Sort of like someone who uses a lot, but tries not to think about it. It's just part of life.
