University of Dayton Speaker Series 2012-13, Dr. Eboo Patel - Annual MLK address 01.22.13

Eboo Patel is founder and executive director of the Chicago-based Interfaith Youth Core, a global movement promoting interfaith cooperation that also encourages college students to take up interfaith activism with as much passion as they exhibit for environmental causes, women's rights and other issues. He has written two books about interfaith cooperation, Acts of Faith: The Story of an American Muslim, the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation and Sacred Ground: Pluralism, Prejudice, and the Promise of
America. In 2009, he was named one of "America's Best Leaders" by U.S. News & World Report.
Through numerous workshops, presentations and programs, Patel makes it clear that he isn't just attentive to the ideas of great social thinkers - they propel him. He deeply believes that people's ethical traditions form the basis for social stability and justice and the Interfaith Youth Core provides an outlet for these cultural experiences to move from theory to practice.
The 2012--13 University of Dayton Speaker Series brings us a diverse group of distinguished scholars, activists and artists dedicated to a common theme: "Education for Transformation."
