For those who use Unity 2018 and can't find the recorder on Asset Store anymore, here's the link to the package on Unity's Github: github.com/Unity-Technologies/GenericFrameRecorder Please note that the github version of Unity Recorder is considered old and obsolete. The new version of the Unity Recorder is available via the Package Manager for Unity 2019+, the installation procedure is shown in the second part video: 01:33 and on. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the excellent tutorial! I'm using Unity 2019.3 (but have also had the same issue in 2019.2) and when I add any new recorder, none of those settings appear in the right hand side of the Recorder window, but a ton of errors start spamming the console. I've tried restarting Unity and rolling back the Recorder version one by one with no luck. Would love any suggestions if you have any!

Right, the gameplay feels a bit slow during recording because video recording is usually CPU-intensive, especially high-quality recording. But the video itself has a normal speed and looks smooth, so don't worry about that. :)

This package is very useful indeed. But what I am experiencing now in Unity 2019.4.11f1 with Unity Recorder 2.4.0 is that if I enable "Include Audio" toggle in the Movie Recorder Settings section, I can not hear any audio in the Play mode. It does record to the video itself, but I can't hear it during playing. Is there any workaround to this problem?

Hi! There is an option to capture 360 View with this recorder (in the Recorder window, instead of Game View you can choose 360 View from the list). I've never tested it myself though.

Wow didn't know unity has such recorder. I used Fraps free version with 30s limitation and I had to cut the window out of it as it was recording more than just the game view. Questions: 1) Does the recording hide mouse if you hover over game buttons during recording? 2) Is it possible to configure a shortcut for recording?

I'm glad that you've found this useful! Regarding your questions: 1. Yes. This is one of the reasons I prefer it over the paid screen recorder that I used before. 2. Not sure about any custom shortcut, but it has a built-in shortcut: pressing F10 will start/stop recording. You don't need to go to Window-General etc, pressing F10 will open the recorder window for you and will start recording.

Thank you for your feedback! It is OK if the gameplay is a bit slow while recording - high quality recording is CPU-intensive, but the gameplay video plays with a normal speed. You can try opening your recorded video file and check how it looks. In any case, I would suggest upgrading your spec, because it is at the bare minimum that Unity can run on. Great question! Unity Recorder 2.0+ has a public API, so you should be able to control your Unity Recorder from script. Here's the official documentation: docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.recorder@2.0/api/UnityEditor.Recorder.html Please note that since it is for Unity Recorder 2.0+, it is not going to work on old versions of Unity. Unity 2019+ should be fine. Good luck! :)

It should appear there right away. Try closing Unity and opening again, or reinstalling the package.

I think the video playback speed after recorded is much faster than actual on screen game playback speed, any idea how to get the same speed for both?

Yes, I've noticed this as well. Try increasing the frame rate in Unity Recorder, 60 fps looks just about right for me. Just please keep in mind that the recording process is going to be slower.

When I select movie all the settings disappear!

Very nice video and voice indeed ! I have experimented on 2019.3.19f3 but ended up with many errors after importing packagge. They mainly refer to : namespace: UxmlNamespacePrefix that does not exist of is missing

Yes, the movie option in the recorder captures the sound as well. :)

I'm glad the video is helpful! :) Sometimes the end result gets accelerated for me as well. In this case I set the frame rate in the recorder to 60 fps, and the final video seems to play at normal speed. The recording process, however, becomes slower. This is a workaround and not the solution, of course. I hope Unity will fix this soon.

Try pressing F10 and see if the Quick Recording window pops up. If not, then probably the recorder has not been installed properly.

It will render the scene, you will not see Unity UI in the recording.

I can't find it in package manager or asset store. I use 2019.2.8f1 in a personal, non commercial licence.

Do you have multiple cameras in the scene? Is it possible that the camera that you've set in the recorder doesn't capture the UI?

Are you using Unity 2018 or older? If so, there is an old Unity Recorder package available somewhere on GitHub. If you're using a newer version of Unity, you can download the new Unity Recorder via the Package Manager.

Well, the recording process is resource-intensive, so I wouldn't recommend including the package in the final build of the game. I personally use it only during the development process, and uninstall it before creating a new build.

Have you configured the Output Resolution to be Full HD? By default it is configured to "Match window size", and that usually is much less than FHD. Also make sure that you set the quality to High.

They've removed the old one, yes. They've said they would. The new version is available via the Package Manager only, on Unity 2019+.

I don't think it's a bug, it is most likely by design. You can perfectly hear the audio in the recorded video.
