    Props to Beckett for his personal consultation on strings! 🙌 Wife and I are beginners and really enjoying the set-and-forget nature of natural gut. Among our trials, Babolat strings stay in place while the Wilson gut at same tension moves like crazy. And the new blue Babolat string seems to fray a lot less than the original and black strings…

    Hi, can you please make a video about specific relationships between rackets and strings? I feel like people often talk about strings in isolation. How does it perform when we use a spin string on a 18x20 heavy control racket or a 16x19 lighter spin racket? How about when we use a more control oriented string on them? I even heard from another youtuber saying they would never put a 16 gauge on a 18x20. I don't understand why. So I came to your comments section, again Beckett :)

  • @TennCom

    Good video topic idea. The subject has been brought to my attention before and I have some ideas but there's a lot of nuance, as you've detected, so I'm not sure how I want to present the topic yet. To put it plainly, the relationship between racquets and strings is highly relational, specifically, it's changes depending on the player's relationship to different racquets and strings. That's why that KZreadr would never put 16g in an 18x20, whereas, I've strung many Strikes, Blades and Speeds with 16g even when they are 18x20s. It is an interesting topic that I'm finding more and more compelling as I experiment with how insanely string sensitive my Whiteout is.

    OK, Beckett. I’ll be your huckleberry. I have a Solinco whiteout 18 x 20 XTD and play exclusively doubles. I currently play with a gut poly hybrid at 40/36. If I wanted to use your grapplesnake M8 full poly at super low intentions what tension would you suggest I string to give it a shot?

  • @TennCom

    @TennCom

    8 ай бұрын

    If you've got enough control with a gut hybrid at 40/36lbs I'm not sure there's that much to gain with M8 at say 35lbs beyond extra spin. Could try dropping down to 20lbs like Mannarino, but I'm not sure if M8 itself would be absolutely necessary at that tension since I haven't really experimented enough myself below 40lbs (other than the random time is did 16lbs)

  • @TennCom

    Game Changer is so sharp that I think it would destroy an multi. Zero would be better. I'm currently having a lot of fun with Solinco X Natural in the mains and Toroline Wasabi X in the crosses. X-Nat is textured (like ALU rough) and Wasabi X is round so its easy on the multi and facilitates quite a bit of snapback. I'd say this is as close as any nylon hybrid I've tried to full poly in terms of spin generation.

  • @TennCom

    @TennCom

    I'm working on a video that compares putting nylon mains vs poly mains in a hybrid set up. I think in general, the nylon mains plays better. You get better grip on the ball with poly mains, but for me, it felt like actual spin was down. Also, with a racquet as light as the 110 and with such open spacing, I can believe you are swinging fast enough to generate snapback so if the Tour Bite is working, it might be the right setup for you. I've strung for several players similar to you in age and racquet choice and going with a super thin poly in an oversized frame really helps them bring out the "Spin Doctor" in their tennis.

    Higher static takes more energy to move through the air, however higher swingweight gives you more pop. Experiment for yourself and see what you like

  • @TennCom

    @TennCom

    8 ай бұрын

    depends. The main determinant on power in your swingspeed. The other is hitting weight (weight near the ball's impact location). So adding weight in the hoop will increase power as long as you can maintain the same swingspeeds. Adding weight in the handle might not since the extra weight is so far away from the impact location. You can make the argument that adding weight in the handle makes the racquet more headlight, which should help the racquet swing faster, and this can be true, but it's not really just about the balance of the frame, it become more about how the racquet synchronized with your mechanics and is probably beyond the scope of practicality for most of us (me included).

    If you hit with decent spin, the extra spin you get from gut (especially in a hybrid) will likely be enough to add control so increasing tension wouldn't be necessary. If you hit pretty flat I think a 2lbs bump is a good idea.

    Not sure why you add video of your play as you discuss different strings. It seems obvious there is no connection to the strings discussed. You may mention the pocketing of one string, and the snap back of another, and the tension retention of another ... and the video shows you in the same matchplay, on the same court ... which has nothing to do with seeing the ball come off your racquet with said string. I suggest you record video of your use of the strings under mention. Leave stock video footage out of the discussions about the different strings. Just sayin'

  • @TennCom

    @TennCom

    It's not always feasible to record fresh hitting footage when I'm doing these recap style videos. I agree with you of course, it's way better to have footage of me hitting with what's being discussed (in most cases for this video, I did provide the footage of the actual string in question), but during editing I decided random hitting footage was more entertaining than just looking at my boring face.
