Sahih al-Bukhari 4504 Narrated Aisha: During the Pre-lslamic Period of ignorance the Quraish used to observe fasting on the day of 'Ashura', and the Prophet (ﷺ) himself used to observe fasting on it too. But when he came to Medina, he fasted on that day and ordered the Muslims to fast on it. When (the order of compulsory fasting in ) Ramadan was revealed, fasting in Ramadan became an obligation, and fasting on 'Ashura' was given up, and who ever wished to fast (on it) did so, and whoever did not wish to fast on it, did not fast.

Thanks for including Bangladesh. "Chand raat" is a great moment of celebration for us. In the village of Bangladesh where I grew up, all children used to gather in the field/playground to witness the beautiful crescent moon and after that the "Eid Mubarak" greeting flew over the sky from every masjid. And then all the children used to go to the big sisters of the village to do the henna/mehedi.Then comes the part of making lots of varieties of "pithas" which we had been making since the 1st day of Ramadan. And the epic Nazrul sangit "ramzaner oi rozar sheshe elo khushir Eid".That's how we used to celebrate ramzan as a child. There are plenty of other stuff to say. I could write an essay on this. But I have to stop. Ramadan Kareem to everybody and advance Eid Mubarak.

Ramadaan is not about food and culture, it's about purification of the soul and to improve your relationship with Allah. Most of us just think about the food, it's the month of the Quran, the month of repentance and good deeds. It doesn't mean that after Ramadaan it's ok to do bad deeds. May Allah guide all of us.

In Indonesia, Ramadan is usually greeted by returning to the village. Because the majority of Indonesians live in cities and work in cities while their families live in villages, and Ramadan is a momentum to return to the village to reunite with family again, we call it "mudik or balik kampung" just like Malaysia. it was very lively. airports, train stations, ports, toll roads are all busy. it was a big event. and it looks like this year there will be an explosion of mudik because for 2 years in a row the government has banned mudik because of the pandemic, but this year it is allowed because there are few cases of covid in Indonesia and everyone has been vaccinated. they will vent their longing.

In Southeast Asia (I am Malaysian; possibly also in Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei) - The tradition shared homecooked meals with a neighbor just before dawn (fasting ends) - We love to have pelita (a kerosene burn light) decorate our house - Moreh, after the long prayer, mainly eating at the mosque - In Acheh, Indonesia (sorry if this occurs in other locations as well), the call for Suhoor is made through the mosque speaker. - Pasar Ramadhan (Ramadhan Night Market): Nearly every day, various unusual foods are available. - In the village, after long prayer, we are used to lighting Meriam Buluh (Bamboo Cannon) and fighting against other's - Inai or Henna, we always apply on the eve of Syawal. Unlike in Pakistan, we apply only all five fingers (around nails) and a moon in the palm. Generally, only the thumbs apply to men (I do not know others, but my grandmother used to apply this to all her grandson) - Balik Kampung or Mudik (Bahasa Indonesia) is a must-do tradition. Despite being stuck on the highway for more than 12 hours, we adore this tradition. - We commemorate Nuzul al-Quran with an extra-religious event, the day the Muslim Holy Book was exposed to humanity for the first time. Some states in Malaysia take this seriously as a public holiday. - Beginning on the 15th of Ramadan, most mosques have planned night prayers beginning at 2 a.m. while we await Lailatul Qadr. - On television in other international festive events, cheers and gladness are displayed, but most Malaysian-style advertisements will make you cry! I believe the list is longer than this :)

*From The Virtues Of The Month Of Ramaḍān* Sh. Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān حفظه الله إيمانه said when listing the virtues of the month of Ramaḍān: "So these are great benefits of this month: *Firstly:* Fasting in this month is a pillar from the pillars of Islām. *Secondly:* Allāh revealed the Qur'ān in this month. *Thirdly:* In this month is a night that is better than one thousand months. *Fourthly:* The actions (of the slave) in this month are multiplied many fold. *Fifthly:* Allāh chose this month specifically for the Ṭarāwiḥ Ṣalāḥ. *Sixthly:* The doors of Jannah are opened and the doors of the hellfire are closed." ● [مجالس شهر رمضان المبارك ص ١٠] اللهم بلغنا رمضان بالصحة والعافية

*When Ramadān arrives* ``` Al-Zuhri (رحمه الله) would say when Ramadān had arrived: “Now is only the time for reciting the Qur’ān and feeding food [to the needy].” Imām Mālik (رحمه الله) would abstain from reading ahādith and the sitting of the people of knowledge, and he would focus on reciting the Qur’ān from the Mushaf. Qatadah (رحمه الله) would study the Qur’ān in Ramadān. Sufyān al-Thawrī (رحمه الله) would abandon all [supererogatory acts of] worship and focus on reciting the Qur’ān.``` *They are many narrations with similar meanings transmitted from them.* [Ibn Rajab mentioned this in Latā’if Wa al-Ma’ārif, p. 181. Book: Important lessons for Ramadān by Shaykh ‘Abd al-Razzāq al-‘Abbād, p. 89]

Ramdhan is really a great festival even being a Christian i hope ramdhan goes on for whole year .... the only reason is the rest of the world can be in peace while the culprit celebrates something it helps them stay busy so they won't have time blowing up buildings 👍👍 happy ramdhan

Why don’t they mention besides cultural festivities what is the highlight as to what really happened in the 9th month called Ramadan in Arabia. Qur’an the last holy Book was revealed upon Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) as the last messenger in line of all the previous common prophets ( in Taurah & Ingil/ Gospel )sent by God Almighty “Allah swt “ the One & Only Deity / God The Creator of All the Universe. Please read the Quran this Ramadan if you haven’t read it yet ! Greetings to All Humanity! 🤲🏻🌹💫

Let me break it to ye, O fools......... I am a beleiver, And nary have provided a good explanation, for their defending of the fasting........perhaps u don't know.......It is a very personal affair....( It's repentance from gluttony and repentance from all Sins.....which we commit on a daily basis........) Most certainly not an affair to be made or even celebrated publicly, This has been a test....... And the "Beleivers", all they could do is taunt, and ye could not bring out the right reason from your faith......... Take a pledge to......never taunt anyone or to take anyone( who declines ur faith ) lightly, but bestow upon them right explanations........ Descendant of the Banu Azd, Son of our holy father Abraham.
