Union Pacific 9 locomotive monster train Byers Canyon, and Bond, Colorado

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The freight trains keep getting longer and longer. Caught this monster train passing through Byers Canyon. This is with out question the longest train I have ever seen pass through the Moffat Route. Train was so long it busted in half earlier in the day (probably because there was no pusher locomotives). Eight powered locomotives is the maximum allowed for normal operations (dead locomotives do not count). You can also add pusher locomotives in the rear for some steep uphill grades. Lots of ancient coal cars on this train. These cars along with the GP15 locomotive could be heading to the scrap yard.

Strange. I counted 171! But then, I always lose my place somewhere around 150+. Some graffiti on some car or other catches my eye way down in the stack....and I begin momentarily daydreaming about Who did it? Where? When? Then I'm out of the count, and add a few to cover "daydreaming time". One of the Romances of the Rails.

Well, six on the head end and three DP’d. Likely only two on the head were utilized and two of the DP’s. As an Engineer for BNSF the train orders specify which units to use. They move power around the network this way and send them to heavy maintenance facilities. Whenever I had excess locomotives I would always select dynamic braking on those unused units that had that option unless they were tagged OTS. I’ll take all the braking power I can get. The railroad’s power formula seemed to give us 1.1hp/ton.. This train, coming down the hill, was in dynamic and had air applied.. Don’t want to utilize air too much… BNSF Engineer (retired)

In 1949 I was 5 and my brother was 3. We lived near the railroad tracks which was used by an American logging co. My father was guard there. One day the American pres. of the co. drove by in his small rail car. I immediately took to the side and safety but my 3 yr old brother chose to run inside the track. The gringo blew his horn while stepping hard on his brakes. He managed to stop just two meters before the boy. Immediately all the women on both sides of the track erupted from their houses to rescue my brother, but the gringo was already out of his car cursing all hell. My brother has already died at 73 not being run down by a speeding train .

Once saw eight loco units, but ALL at the front, heading up from Albuquerque toward Dalhart, Texas - the driver must have figured out why I'd turned the car around, driven back and crossed the track, he gave me a mighty blast on those klaxons and a friendly wave as he passed me!

Yep, very long train. It would be cool if the engineers on board could fly a drone over the length of their train to keep an eye on things. When the battery is a bit low, have it return to a charging dock/pad on the roof of the locomotive cab.

I love trains, as a boy i would pass time at the train station and watch longinly when I would ride one. I would read and re read station stops written on the blackboard, all the way to Legaspi City phils. . I have since rode a few trains. To mention some, Moscow Leningrad, Beijing to Shanghai, Guangzhou to Hongkong, Singapore to Kuala. Los Angelea to Holywood . Now all the trains in you tube I am the cab driver. I just love the dreadful noise and the power of the long train . Toot. Toot.

Wow what a great find. I've elk hunted Colorado quite a bit. This looks exactly like a stretch of the Arkansas River along Rt. 50 out to Montrose. And yeah.....we pulled over and caught a lot of trout each trip. There are so many good spots and the water is so clear you can see them from a good 20yds away. Only difference back then was all the freights were Rio Grande freights with SD-40IIs, SD-50s,and 45s. What a sight it was with the big EMDs in black with orange writing. Even if you weren't a Choo Choo guy, very impressive. Also, I always thought bighorn sheep were rare n endangered....the first year we went out there the sheep were ALL over those canyons

Yes saw a lot of sheep in Glenwood Springs lately. People say they are a everyday sight near downtown. The water is very clear in that river especially this time of the year when it is low. A lot of people out there fishing right now.

Which is better, 160 cars in 1 train or 80 cars x 2 or 40 cars x 4 ? For me, as a common driver, prefer the train is not too long cars. because the train will stop us for long minutes to pass at crossing... If the train 40 cars x 4 (in every 15 or minutes), it will give us to shorten delay...
