I love my bonsai and I'm really starting to love the pots in your videos too Greg. The more I see, the more I like them. For me, the best pots I have ever seen, so well finished with care and attention to detail a great style about them too. The markings around the sides of the oval pot at 1:36 is something I've never seen before. So fitting for the art of bonsai.

Merci 😊 je fait toujours en double cuisson, même les pots non-émaillés. Je pense que si je commençais à faire des simples cuissons pour certains pots, je finirai pas me mélanger les pinceaux et cuire les mauvais pots 😅

Great challenge accomplished! They are all beautiful! I would love to know how you prevent the bottoms from cracking on the very large pots. I have tried making an 18" X 18" X 6" twice, and the bottoms cracked on both in the glaze firing. They made it through the bisque fire just fine. Using a cone 5 clay with lots of grog, which is supposed to be perfect for hand building. Also using lots of alumina hydrate on the kiln shelf to allow movement during the shrinking process. Guess I could try to put a foot in the center for support, but that seems somewhat unconventional for a bonsai pot.

it's hard to say, it could be several things, most often it's too fast drying, sometimes it's more subtle things like the position of the drainage holes. It took me a very long time and a lot of breakage to master the firing of large pots, beyond 14-15" it starts to be a real challenge.

First of all, they are all amazing! your skills are off the charts. On the one thats a gift for a friend the bottom seems to be thinner than i normally see you do, is it to lessen the chances of cracking?

I don't think it's thinner, I think it's an optical illusion because I rounded the edges of the holes. I always make my plates between 8 and 10 mm. But otherwise it doesn't help for breakage.

Bonjour Greg. Personnellement, ce style non émaillé est mon préféré. Son côté à la fois brut, zen et minimaliste dans la déco de finition donne aux pots un cachet extraordinaire. Une seule cuisson rend-elle les pot non gélif et peut-on retrouver ces modèles régulièrement sur votre site à la vente (cadeau pour mon épouse) ? Merci pour vos si belles vidéos et explications, c'est un régal !

Merci. Ici c'est la 2eme cuisson, mais on peut aussi faire de la mono cuisson et avoir des pots non gélifs, du moment que celle-ci est à haute température (1200-1300°). Actuellement je n'ai plus beaucoup de choix sur le site (période de rempotage + grosse expo en février), mais je suis en pleine production pour refaire le stock. j'actualise le site au fur et à mesure des cuissons, les prochains pots devraient arriver debut Avril.

Incredible work! I would love to know how you get such wonderful even color. Iron oxide wash brushes on and wiped? On green ware or bisque? I have much trouble with my own pots doing that. The colors and fading are not smooth at all. Thanks for all you do!

Gracias. a veces hago macetas ovaladas de 70 cm, pero no a menudo porque es pesado de manejar.

Amazing pots, as always! Probably dosn't mean much but you are my favourite potter for sure, I wish some day my pots look half as good as yours. Can I ask what clay should i use to make unglazed pots? Until now I have only used PRAI and PRGF (always glazed). Thanks for sharing your work, it is very inspiring for me! EDIT: I can se in the description box that you mix diferent stoneware clays to obtain this effect, thanks!

Don't believe that, it means a lot, it's very important for a creator to feel supported, to see that we are moving in the right direction. THANKS... For unglazed pots you can use PRGF, personally I mix it with a little black clay (PRNF) because I find it a bit too light for me. There are beautiful reddish clays (Xing clay, Treigny, or Fusch 2505) but they contain a lot of iron and are difficult to use because they deform a lot during firing.

Greg, as an addition to my Bonsai hobby, I'm hoping to go on a pottery workshop to try and make my own shallow slab side pot. Can I ask how you got the markings/decoration along the sides of the pot that comes out of the kiln at 1:36 please?

Are you firing to cone 6? Are these pots safe to be outside during winter?

cone 8, so yes it's frost-proof

Magnifique!! J’aurais 2 questions… Combien de temps est-ce qu’on peut attendre avant de faire cuire un pot une fois qu’il est terminer. Puis j’aimerais comprendre comment on fait les dégradés de couleurs, surtout sur un pot non glacé. Merci Bcp

merci, il n'y a pas de temps particulier, ça dépend des pots, il faut attendre qu'il soit complètement sec.

It is a mixture of several clays, mainly red sandstone and black sandstone.
