In this video, watch as I give you seven tips to make your underwater videos better with your GoPro Hero 11! It's no secret that filming underwater is pretty tricky, but with the right filming tips, you can capture some pretty cinematic looking video! The Hero 11 just debuted and it has some features that can really enhance underwater video, like 10-bit color and a new sensor.
My "Underwater Tips" series is my most popular, and it's a video I've made for every new GoPro camera. This years video is the most changed compared to past years, with only a few of the tips carrying over, and that's because the Hero 11 has a lot of new features!
I've been filming underwater videos strictly with my GoPro cameras since 2017, and over the last five years I've learned a lot about it. These videos are a way for me to share my knowledge with all of you out there. I hope you all enjoy the video!

Excellent review, and well looked into in the settings department, am going diving in Maldives February and going to buy a gopro to use and get some memories 👍

Ray thank you for the awesome tips ,I would like to add another useful handle. Nu bear, selfies stick and tripod that floats
Thanks for the great tips!
You are looking quite young but you are showing a lot of profound experience in your recommendations! All I can do is agree, from what I've been doing so far ... I just bought one as I found the progress of the 11 has really come to a point adding to my equipment and I'm looking forward to my next diving in 2 weeks and see if it can replace my regular Panasonic and Sony compact cameras. Maybe what you missed out, that it is evident always using the additional underwater protection casing, which goes down to 60m.
Wow - this camera offers so much more than previous versions. Thanks for the tips - very cool!
i am a loyal go pro fan since go pro 2, i flew airplane with it, good to see GP is always the industry standard

It looks much better than my old GoPro 7, every time there's a little drop of water on it, the image isn't clear. The sharks swimming around you didn't make my thalassophobia any better haha!

Great tips. I've heard switching to native for WB is good because then you can really control the color grading in post. Thoughts?

That’s usually what I do. I leave my white balance on auto so the color is as raw as possible, giving you a lot more room to work with while editing.

Native and auto are 2 different things. Native leaves it raw, Auto adjusts it automatically.
Thanks for the video. Just wondering if you have used the Horizon Lock feature underwater. If so, what is your experience? Does it make a significant change or you don’t think it works quite well underwater? Thanks

I haven't had the chance to test it out underwater yet. I think it would be good for slow shots underwater, like hovering over a reef, because it'll keep your shot even more steady

Love the video! I am going diving soon and want to make sure to get some good shots. After watching your video i still have 2 questions that i would really appreciate if you could give some insight to. 1. Do you have exeprience using the head strap when diving as I prefer having my hands free? 2. for diving around 20/30 metres do i need additional lighting or is the gopro hero 11 good enough?
@FintasticFilms
Жыл бұрын
I personally wouldn’t use the head mount while diving because the bubbles often get in the way of your shot. However if you’re just freediving then it works fine. It depends on where your diving (some places are darker than others) but at that depth you don’t necessarily need a light. I would still use one because otherwise the colors won’t pop very well. Thanks for watching!

hey! Great video! Where can I find the "water mode" in video setting like you at 02:19? and do you use an extra case e.g. for snorkeling or do you trust GOPRO with waterproof until 10m of depth?

There is no water mode, but you can rename any preset. Click the pen symbol, then click on the name (Water) at the top of the screen and change it to travel, snow, water…
Do we need waterproof case for underwater usage for gopro hero 11? If yes, which one do you recommend?

Question. Do you need something to protect your GoPro from water while diving or is it waterproof enough to use without?
@FintasticFilms
Жыл бұрын
It's waterproof down to 33 feet (10 meters), so if you're going any deeper than that you'll need a protective case.
I have a question, is it worth being interested in this 11th. There are a lot of dives and I wonder if it is worth not to be interested?
I like ❤
Are there still any overheating problems (especially while diving with housing in warmer waters)?
@FintasticFilms

I haven't experienced any overheating problems so far. When I dive I typically don't leave my camera on the whole time, which really helps with overheating.
I would luv to able to make diving videos

If you're using the Hero 11 then make sure 10-bit color is turned on. This will allow for you to capture more vibrant colors in your video. You can also adjust your white balance; adding a little more red to your video will make colors pop more underwater.

This is a very specific video aimed at a small niche of youtube viewers and it is exactly what I was looking for. I still dive with the hero 7, so I am forced to use color correction lenses on my gopro. I am excited to get my hands on a hero 11 so that I can capture the most natural looking underwater footage for my videos. Thank you for sharing your expertise on the subject of underwater filming.

Don't count on the gopro AI to accurately correct the blue/green of the sea. The AIs weren't programmed with this kind of encironments in mind so they end up very badly corrected. AI is, lots of times, really worse than filters. Best of best is always use good artificial lights. ;)

Can you slow the video down on the fly
Hmmm could you'all recommend a video where the clogger speaks a lot slower and explains industry terms while showing the actual screen movements in real, slow time? You know, for us photophobic assholes, as it were? Seriously, any training videos on your peoples explanations of photo terms and slang and technical verbiage would be appreciated so we could follow along and learn. Ie Define shit
