Undervolt your RTX 3060 for more FPS! - Tutorial | 8GB and 12GB | Works for 3060 Ti PLUS too!

Ғылым және технология

Undervolting really seems to be the best option in terms of GPU optimization for the 3000 series. Be it a 3090, 3080, 3070 or even a 3060 Ti, I’d still recommend doing it. If you do it properly, you’re gonna lose virtually 0 performance or even get an increase, while dramatically reducing heat and power consumption. Today we are featuring an MSI RTX 3060 Asus Phoenix with a single fan and using a 750W 80 Plus Gold Corsair PSU!
The tutorial will work for both the RTX 3060 12GB and the 8GB one, plus it will work for the new RTX 3060 Ti PLUS with GDDR6X that they just launched!
We used MSI Afterburner, here's the download link: www.msi.com/page/Afterburner
The software in the background is Heaven Benchmark, here's the link: benchmark.unigine.com/heaven

    Thank you, bro. This is my first undervolt, and I only used the exact settings that you recommended, and the results are amazing. My GPU used to reach temperatures between 77 and 80 degrees at 100% usage, but with this undervolt, it now reaches a maximum of 70 degrees (most of the time it's around 68 or 69) at the same 100% usage. My GPU is an RTX 3060 Twin Edge Zotac with 12GB of DDR6. Note: More stability and no less performance.

    Dude! Thank you for this video! I've always wanted to try undervolting but never felt comfortable before without a proper guide providing not just the method but also a good starting point for the card. Your video helped me actually understand what I'm supposed to be doing with the curve editor, and in the end I was able to get a stable UV/OC very similar to what you said you run. Helped me drop my temps by 5C and raised my bench score in Port Royal by 8%! I'm really happy with these results. Thanks again! 👍

    This is my first time under volting a gpu. Very solid tutorial. rtx 3060 12gb out of the box would boost all the way up to 1942mhz and temp would be around 73c pulling around 1080 volts. Followed your guide and my card has a boost to only 1920 but the temp maxes out at 64c at 900 volts and is completely stable. More than a fair trade off. Also went from pulling around 175-180+ watts to 127 watts on full load. Thank you very much!

    Thanks a lot for this quick and easy tutorial, I never thought of undervolting. My RTX 3060 Dual OC runs now stable on 887 mV and 2000 Mhz on QHD (1440), frames increased by 10 FPS on average, temperature dropped by almost 10 degrees to 62 and the power draw went down from 170 W to 110 W! By the way I still run the i5 4690 K overclocked on 4.3 GHZ on the good old Asus z97 P board, still no need for new hardware in 2023 as even recent games are running well with high and even ultra settings with no performance issued whatsoever.

    Something I don't understand - if we are doing this to reduce power consumption, why increase the power limit? Looking into this because I'm mostly likely upgrading to 3060 from 1060 tomorrow and I want to lower power consumption to about same level as 1060. I know I could do it by decreasing power limit to 70 percent, but I hear this is the better way. Though my tiny brain doesn't really understand how this works and I'm scared to damage the gpu. :D Also, did you happen to test by just how much power consumption is decreased on a 3060 with your setting vs default ?

  • @ImWateringPSUs

    @ImWateringPSUs

    Жыл бұрын

    You don’t really have to raise the power limit. The reason why I recommend doing it, is that occasionally there will be a spike in power and if you have the PL unlocked, you won’t notice any FPS drops, on the contrary, if you have the power limit locked the card will downclock. I think it’s the perfect tutorial for your needs, follow it and you won’t look back :)

  • @Broformist

    @Broformist

    @@ImWateringPSUs I'm also suspicious of the fact that doing it this way seems to lower the clocks for voltages below your chosen peak one. Most games I play are older games that didn't even utilize my gtx 1060 fully, and this type of undervolt appears to only work for the most intensive stuff. For less intensive games this would appear to actually make GPU use more power, not less. I just settled for lowering power limit to my new card for now before I look into other ways of undervolt. Even at 65 percent power limit my RTX 3060 runs WAY faster than a 1060 while consuming even less power, it's an over 60 watt decrease. Maybe I will need to raise power limit for some game eventually but for now I will just stick to this simple setting.

  • @Broformist

    After learning a bit more about Afterburner controls I ended up setting my 3060 to 925mv@1965mhz. Without that silly negative offset that would downclock the lower voltages. I left those at default values and only raised the 925mv point, then dragged the mouse to the right while holding Shift until all other voltage points got selected together with the 925 point. Then hit Enter twice and selection gets flattened. I have no idea why most tutorials on youtube recommend to do this negative offset thing but it seems inefficient to me. I left power limit at default too, doesn't seem to be any reason to increase it when voltage never goes above 925mv anyway. Max power draw is ~130W now. GPUZ reports this as a 33 Mhz overclock.

    Try 775mV and 1750Mhz or even a bit less if you're looking for the lowest possible temperature!

    Works like a charm when the card is under load. But when on desktop, card stays on like it's under load. It does not go to low power. Did I miss a thing ?

    Thank you very much now my coil whine has been reduced significantly. I set the frequency to 1850 and it's very quiet.
