You know... Mettaton ironically had the most selfless reason to be a boss fight (in the neutral/pacifist runs). Toriel: Wanted to keep one child safe, yet was unwilling to stay by the child's side to do so. Papyrus: Wanted to be a Royal Guard, something he was already under training for. Undyne: Wanted to enact Asgore's plan (which would kill all humans) and set monsters free from the caverns. Muffet: Was bribed with more than enough money to reach her personal goals, which she was already funding with her bake sales. Flowey: Be a god/dick. Mettaton tries to save billions of lives from a brutal death. His heroism is only exceeded by Pacifist Frisk, who saves everyone in the world by just being nice to everybody they meet.

+Necrikus As you can see in the True Pacifist ending, Asgore didn't want to kill all humans... Only Frisk so he could free the monsters. Even then, he has to face down when fighting you, because he doesn't really want to kill you but he has to.

This fight means a hell of a lot to the game's story. Mettaton is your final obstacle before reaching Asgore because he wants to specifically prevent Asgore from getting the last human soul he needs. You win and you prove you're good enough to maybe even convince Asgore not to fight, but lose and you ensure at least your soul is in good hands. And to top it all off, the ENTIRE UNDERGROUND is watching. All the friends you made are watching you and Mettaton fight on TV with only two things on mind: Cheering on the beloved TV star and the human who managed to bring them hope.

Before September 2021: Man, this song is a huge banger! I'm gonna listen to this on loop now! After September 2021: Hehe funny [#1 Salesman] robot.
