This was interesting. the Lunar New Year is February 10 this year. We'll be going into the Year of the Dragon, but in Thailand, it will be the Year of the Naga. The time we are in now, the Year of the Rabbit is the Year of the Cat in Vietnam. I find it fascinating how the animals of the Chinese Zodiac have cultural variants; it could be fun to discuss them and their "cannon" versions around the time of the Lunar New Year. Maybe discuss each of their distinctive stories, and comparing their stories to those of their variants. I'm also thinking about fairy tales, in particular, non-European fairytales. Two stories I became aware of some years ago are the tale of Podna and Podni (a story from Pakistan) and the tale of The Magic Paintbrush (a story from China); a fairytale I became aware a few years later is the tale of The Grateful Crane (a Japanese fairytale). Since fairytales often occupy a similar space to myths, sometimes even referencing them or seeming to be minor tales within the myths themselves.

@@Mythlok@Mythlok I don't think I would be able to provide much over there; my knowledge of such things is limited. While I know the Lion is often used an alternate for the Tiger, mostly because I've seen it pop up in conversations regarding things related to the Chinese Zodiac, I still haven't been able to find where that variant comes from; my best guess, some parts of China or Japan. Although, if you want to see some sort of representation of the Chinese Zodiac in modern media, I recommend checking out the Digimon franchise. In the Digimon franchise, there is a group of twelve Digimon called "The Devas," and each Deva is based on a different animal in the Chinese Zodiac; but as their name implies, they also pull from some other points in world mythology as well. Digimon Explained has done a few videos on the subject, he takes a deep dive into the origins of some of the members of the Devas and explains all the cultural origins he could find. I highly recommend checking out the channel, it is full of some really interesting stuff.
