Understanding The Landscape Of The Left - David Pakman | Modern Wisdom Podcast 388

David Pakman is a political commentator and host of The David Pakman Show.
The Left and The Right really aren't talking very well at the moment. It feels like if people don't have the same political leaning, they see the world in an entirely different way, whether that's disagreements on identity, health, policy, priorities or babymaking.
Expect to learn David Pakman's explanation for why communication from Left to Right seems so strained, whether identity politics really takes up as much focus among the Left as it seems, whether Donald Trump is an own goal for Conservatives, the biggest problems with political commentators refusing to communicate and much more...

Packman is right that a lot of the left is more moderate than twitter would make it seem. Regardless of Twitter tho, this hard left ideology is pumped through all of our cultural institutions. What Packman doesn't get, is that the moderate bulk he speaks of are just the stragglers "to be herded" by the elite activists guiding the party. Most Germans weren't nazis when the nazis took over. But the majority is easily herded by those in power. And if ppl think that herding isn't happening in America, they're blind

Packman is fascinating. He has a veneer of the balanced pundit, then will say that there was absolutely no riots from the black lives matter group, the only instance of a riot that he can consider, being January 6th. It seems to me that if you really pay attention, you can see he wasn't lecturing, he was just expressing his opinion in a respectable way. He was pointing out the dangers of not using one's brain to judge sources responsibly. Yes, to me too it seems that David Pakman is often biased in this, but you are blind if you don't see you are often biased yourself. Pointing out this dynamic on neutrality vs. objectivity & David's view on it, just helps Chris expose how both extremes have dangers to the quality of public discussion inherent in them. Extremes: 1.) Not inviting people that think differently than you is judging too harshly (something which David Pakman seems often guilty enough of) 2.) Inviting any nutter that has no rational arguments, only non-data supported, emotional opinions, in judging not harsh enough.

Same. I couldn't make it beyond that point. The BLM riots caused around $2,000,000,000 (billion) in property damage. Januray 6th only reached $1,500,000 (million). The BLM riots were 1,333x worse. The difference is staggering and it doesn't include the lives lost during BLMs riots, and you can't calculate the level of emotional damage done to business owners who lost livelihoods. Not to mention their success at defunding the police which led to the rise of violent crime in some areas doubling or more for months and are still at far higher levels than they should be. Regardless of views or opinions, unless they're ignorant to it, anyone who can't recognize that or denies it isn't worth listening to and just can't be trusted. Infuriating.

Nobody's starving, there's an abundance of food. The Gulag isn't that bad anyways." It's currently happening, right now, all around you. It's difficult to be this uninformed. It takes effort. Does he not ever look at corporate media and see what non-news they're pushing every day? Thank you for being balanced and asking an NPC a bunch of questions in your very pleasing style. I'd never make it past a few minutes with this guy. He is as ignorant, daft and basically ingenuine as I expected. This sums up all of what I need to know about Packman so I thanks you for having the talk. Packman is a perfect example of the reason I find most leftists unbearable to listen to. He seems convinced that his silo IS the right one and continues to be oblivious to how the silos exist. Sometimes "the facts only exist on one side" he says. . He sees there being a viability to controlling what is a "bad argument" without beginning to understand the impossibility of choosing a system that could conceivably be reasonable or unbiased for such a thing. People WILL and DO add their bias to everything. If you are not willing to acknowledge that you are in a silo or are oblivious to them (or worse pretending they don't exist) then what you have to say is utterly of no value to me and you are a Pakman NPC type.

I admire Pakman, because for all things i disagree with him in, politically, he´s a good content creator, communicator and community builder - and in general quite brilliant in gaming the algorithm-driven media world. The topics he choose to facilitate these through, i have reservations against. That being said, i think he has a really big problem in not understanding the side he criticizes, and because he's a smart guy and well-educated/well-read, he rationalizes his lack of understanding by just calling right-wingers something between idiots or villains. You're either maliciously pushing for policies that harms people (IOW; doesn´r result in the outcome he prefers) or are moron for supporting it. You can hear this, when he actually has to make descriptions of "the right", as he always takes half a or a whole second to pick his adjectives, which is always the most horrendous and exaggerating ones he can pick. He speaks like i imagine he writes, but his voice reveals the meaning he actually put into words, and its annoying

A shame so many have downvoted this video. You don't deserve the downvotes, eventhough Pakman is 'ugh' at best. It's still important to let the opposition say, what they have to say - so you can call them out on what they say.

Good interview , but you should have challenged him a bit more in few instances ,on the other side I think the reason you didn't is because you wouldn't want a heated interview .

A Pakman is a Pakman - he is a classic left wing pundit, but Chris did shock me, which happened a couple of times before. He agreed and even "noticed himself" that conservatives do not come up with progressive ideas and try to stay conservative, No .... Sherlock!. Next time Chris, could you ask a follow up question, just one, e.g. what is the disaster in Florida, or any other statement
