great videos as always. I love my E2 but the step edit mode can be so frustrating. I normally jam and then just use step edit to correct timing or mess with different notes etc. however, I will defo try your drone trick- seems quite intuitive. thanks again

John Chesters yes agreed. Wish they just made the step screen let you choose a step and then play it on keyboard. Why they didn't is beyond my comprehension

Ron Cavagnaro yeah definitely, it would be so much easier if you could cut and paste notes like the circuit. your drone example has given me a thought though...could use that along with the gate arp and then use step edit to change certain notes. I think that could work well for basslines, plus with the groove type to help with velocities etc

+Ron Cavagnaro or why didn't they just let you choose the start and end points just using the pads and then dial in the gate on the last step of the triggered note

Really like this little machine! Imagine if they had: * combined the synth and sampler functions in one machine, allowing for drum synthesis and sampling on the same machine * added the option to use at least 2 (ideally 3 or 4) modifiers and local effects per track * adding reverb as a local effect * expanding the effects section, and added the option to control more than one effect parameter * expanding the sequencer to 8 or 16 bars (this can of course be "emulated" with the pattern chain function, but then it is no longer possible to record the whole pattern in one take) * added a function to randomize notes and stuff Hopefully something we will see in future versions. I would be ok with it being a bit bigger if thats what it takes, although i do like this small form factor, which makes it more portable.

@@RonCavagnaro The EMX1 definitely look pretty cool..! Ive never seen a video with all its features, but i *think* i prefer the design and workflow and features of the E2. Im guessing the tube amplifier allows for better sound, but my very limited understanding about these things, tells me that you could get that same sound by hooking it up to an external tube amplifier... For me who is not very tech savvy, it seems like a hassle having to replace and tune the tubes...

@@RonCavagnaro Wow... Gave the E2 away, HAHAHA! I have heard EMX users say they prefer the old one, and im guessing there is a reason for this. I personally think the E2 sounds pretty good, but this is the only hardware instrument i have ever had my hands on, so i cant really compare it to anything... But im not really that picky either, so i generally think software synths are good enough. Especially Reaktor, which allows me to make my own synths, where i can easily create some pretty complex "analog emulations". Being able to control the analog warmth like this makes it seem like an even better option than analog synths. I wonder what music productin tool can be better than Reaktor, in the hands of the right person...

I think everybody should learn and perform real time recording. Just for me, I could never do it this way. It would drive me nuts. The only way I would do this, is if I had some really weird texture or groove I had to put in my beat because I couldn't real time record it. The drums are nice though, and descent little groove.

You can add a tiny bit of motion seq, this makes the record button flash and it will end the recording by itself when it reaches a full loop. Should make all the notes in tie.

It might indeed be a "terrible way to compose..." *IF* only it were the *only* way to compose - but thankfully... it most certainly isn't!! In other words, once you get familiar with the E2, it's actually and absolutely easy to compose creatively original pieces - without going near the step edit function at all. Step edit is useful at times, but by no means is it essential always to use it. I see it as a tool to use sometimes, i.e,. when needed. And it's good to know at least some of the ways in which it can be useful, hence thanks must go to the author of this video, for that very reason.
