    Just used my first red dot ever. Mounted on an AR. After a few shots and being frustrated with the dot “moving around” and not perfectly centered in the sight due to my headgear, I tried just shooting with the dot on target and not caring where it was within my field of vision. And I was pleasantly surprised that it was dead balls on at 40yds. I came to KZread to verify this, and your video didn’t disappoint. So thank you!

    Thank you for posting this. I just bought my first red dot for my rifle and was confused about the dot moving about as i moved my head. Then as you explained it for me and i noticed that the dot didnt actually move off the point i was aiming at, even though it appeared to move in the sight. Very helpful!

    This is the best video on KZread (that I found) for helping to understand how these things work. I don’t have any guns nor do i plan on getting one, but i really wanted to understand how these red dot sights work. This video was exactly what i was looking for. Nobody else on KZread was able to explain like this

    I've got a TRS-25 on my 16" AR and I had it out to 200 yards a few months back. Wanted to sight it in there so I made a target that had a 6" space in it for me to put my 3moa dot in to hold for the shots. Worked out pretty well.

    Thank you, Jordy, that is what I needed to hear and see. As soon as you mentioned that when you move your head right, the dot would also go right, I then realized that I had not 'grasped' that before, that is, until you showed me. I learned a lot, VERY informative, I still need to actually use it at a gun range, but your explanation was really insightful, I can't tell you how much this is appreciated. I just could not wrap my brain around this... :) Thanks again, Jordy, that was very nice of you to make this.

    This helped me alot, just tried to sight in mine on my pistol and noticed the dot moved with my head and off target at very short range viewing under 10 ft but after watching that section i tried it again with a longer view distance and the dot didn't move off target. Interesting.

    Burris makes magnificent optics. I just purchased the sig romeo5. I haven't shot with it yet but looking through it, the dot is not perfect and it seems to move. Prior to my purchase I shot the same romeo at the range using 55gr using a sig tread m400 16in. My groups were 1" @ 50yd

    Nice explanation. Thinking of purchasing an AR pistol mostly for short range plinking and as a home defence backup. I have to take my glasses off (or look over them) to aim my rifles having scopes. Not sure about a non-magnified red dot sight. Wondering if I can use the red dot sight with my glasses on and if it would be appropriate for an AR pistol? Thanks.

    Red dots are most common on an AR pistol. They should work fine with your glasses.

    What to know: ifyou have astigmatism red dots are useless without corrective lenses between the sight and your eye.

    Ok so let's say i wana get bulls eye on a Apple, do i keep the red dot on the middle of the Apple 🍎 or do i move it up a little since the optic is mounted higher than the barrel. .

  • @GunTradition

    @GunTradition

    2 жыл бұрын

    That depends on your zero distance, the distance at which you adjust your sight to match the bullet. The bullet will start out below the sight, rise up above it a bit, then cross back down below your aiming point.

  • @andrzejwnek3939
    @andrzejwnek39394 ай бұрын

    Good video mate but please explain, example - when the red dot moves all over the area of the lens perimeter with the position of your eye or your head how do you calibrate the actual center with the adjustments... I find this almost impossible , there should be front lens and rear lens dots so when they come both in alignment then you should be dead on target... The parallax effect makes it a strange targeting sensation and you doubt the accuracy before you pull the trigger unless you shooting a hippo from a 5 yards distance lol

  • @GunTradition

    @GunTradition

    Just focus on the dot, not where the dot appears. If the gun is steady, that's what matters.as a mater of technically, the dot will always be very near center although your perception of its position will change as you move.

    If I sight it a red dot at 100 yards will it be accurate at different ranges like 25 and 50 yards?

  • @GunTradition

    @GunTradition

    2 жыл бұрын

    It will vary some. The bullet starts out lower than the dot. If you sight it in at 100 yards, that's where the bullet gets up to the dot. If the dot sits three inches higher than the center of your barrel, the gun will shoot three inches low at the muzzle, 1.5 inches low at 50, and spot on at 100.

    Dont wanna be that guy but im fed up of people calling all eotech red dot sights. they are not! they are classed as a Holographic Weapon Sights or HWS for short the HWS sights use multiple mirrors and a holographic grid to make the recticle 3D everything you explained except parilax only falls under a genuine red dot, HWS's dont follow some of the same rules as a 2d recticle the only red dot eotech manufactured was a sight called the eflx mini reflex sight, besides that great vid i did learn alot as in not a red dot guy im a HWS lover lol. i am also talking about real HWS sights and not imitation. thanks pal,

    I fully get what you are on about re 100 yards, but if like me, you are only back yard plinking & ratting at 20 yards, just get the red dot to hit dead on at around that range - There's no Science about it! (That's already been done by the Manufacturer) - Mine was from eBay, £15 , Four Reticules, 5 brightness settings + Red or Green all at the flick of a switch. It shoots "Same hole" (almost) every time.
