#10MinuteTalk
We’ve mentioned it in countless episodes prior to this one, but have yet to do a dedicated episode to the optical phenomena that is “parallax”. What is it and how does it affect us when we shoot? Some riflescopes have a “parallax dial” - what does that do? How about red dots and holographic sights that claim to be “parallax free”? When does it really matter and when does it not? We try and cram in all those questions and answers into this quick episode!
As always, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

Thanks guys, I learned much,,,
i would really like to see a episode on maximum low light transmission for hunting, how to choose the right scope and what to look for specs wise for the ultimate low light scenario.

Bigger objective captures more light.
Good information. Thanks 👍🇺🇸
What cheek riser did you refer too??
excellent video!
Is it possible to add adjustable Parallax to an lpvo scope? Even if the adjustable Parallax range was only 50-300 yards that would be better than being stuck at 100 yards.
When a scope has paralax copmensation Form 50m / Yards to Infinity. Can i See through it at around 25m/Yards or will it BE too blury?
I notice it focuses everything when turning the parallax dial also. Should reticle and target be in focus at the same time, or does it matter about focus at all? Is it more about the correct parallax when slightly moving your head and nothing about focus?

Yes, if your ocular lens is correctly adjusted, then everything should be in focus.
Diopter changes and eyes will impact your parallax difference from the markings too
I use the parallax nob as a range finder on my air rifles. This seems to work very well and is nearly perfect, matching a laser range finder. I have a large wheel mounted to the parallax turret so that I can put my own marks on it or chosen mils. Of course this has limitations and works better for target within 100 yards but I've used it out to 300 yards with decent accuracy. I don't hear about this being used on 22 rim fires. Is there a reason it's not used?

While that may work for some setups, it won't always work as there a number of factors that cause you to account for parallax at a given distance (where the diopter is set, where you fall in the elevation travel, etc.).

@@VortexNation Yes, it will always work!! But only if the shooter puts in the work to take the measurements and test the setup and record it on the mounted wheel added to your parallax knob. The shooter has to test and record that data, or else it won't work well, but if the shooter puts in the work it WILL be dependable and accurate.
So looking through the scope at 200 yards and no reticle movement and no parallax error, but side parallax adjustment is not exactly on 200, in that normal?
How about the difference between 1st & 2nd focal plane in rifle scopes. Another how to check and correct rifle/scope cant.

So the way I understand it. Is like a red dot is just a self adjusting parallax dot
Does anyone know how to remove parallax knob on vortex tactical scope
@VortexNation

Why are you looking to remove it?

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that maybe he wants to remove it and put it back on so that the parallax yardage marks correspond with actual yardage.
But why are the yardages on there if they are not correct?

Your eyepiece adjustment will throw off the yardage numbers.

I have been watching while wondering about that exact question - product placement perhaps 🤔
Think of looking at a clock face, looking at it "Square On", the clock hands are dead in line with the Numbers. Stand to the Right, say at 30 degrees, the clock looks a couple of minutes Fast. Stand to the Left & the clock looks a couple of minutes Slow. That's "Parallax" in a Nutshell.

It's frustrating that NOBODY will talk about how far off you will be at different ranges with a fixed (100 yd) parallax scope so we can determine when we could use it for our type of hunting.
@thesuperkat943

If I understand the math right, it should just be how far off your eye is from centerline multiplied by the difference in range vs parallax range, all divided by the parallax range. It’s just a set of similar triangles. (Eye centerline error*(range(yd)-100)/100 for your case)
sometimes you guys take so long to say something meaningful.
There's no way you can cover "all things parallax" in only 10 or 15 mins. You didn't even discuss the relationship between the parallax and the rear Diopter, or even talk about some old school tricks to overcome parallax issues, or overcome fixed parallax scopes using the scope shadow. Yes the scope shadow is a tool that can be used to eliminate parallax regardless of cheek-weld.
Vortex is a joke! Way over priced and unreliable. This explanation of an example of the sales people taking out of their ass! No mention of how to adjust for it and how to set your scope! What he said ABSOLUTELY DOESN’T WORK, It’s a joke.
10 minute talk? Your clock is screwed up! Not once but 3 times!!! Blah, blah, blah!
