    Thank you very much for your wonderful tutorial. I know the importance of knitting a swatch, but I am always too inpatient and start my project without one. I am now converted. I think it was something in your delivery that converted me.

    December 2022: I decided to "get into" knitting...being burned out on quilting, decoupage & kumihimo! Bought some needles and a few skeins of yarn...watched a few KZread videos...saw that gauge was mentioned (whatever that is), and cranked out a few scarves and ear warmer headbands for Xmas. Using the knitting loom too. Easy peasy!!! Then I start looking around to do a sleeveless vest for myself...and I can't get away from gauge. It's like the plague! I watch a bunch more videos - and now I start thinking that I might run back to quilting. Atleast I don't have to test make a quilt 3 or 4 times to get the size right. Then I find your video on gauge. Excellent explanation...and I understand the method and reasoning perfectly...thank you. I'm still not crazy about having to knit a bunch of stuff, given my SLOW pace, just to get the right size...but I get it. And don't even get me started on regular knitting versus continental. What a disaster! I'm going to see if you have a video on that when I'm done here. Thanks!

    This was super helpful in understanding not only how to knit a gauge swatch, but how to adjust your gauge to make the project work. (It turns out I knit much tighter than most gauges call for, so I'll almost always need bigger needles...) Thank you so much for your clear explanation.

    Thanks for the video! Now I finally understand gauge! If you use thinner needles than recommended to get gauge, how will it affect the needle size of the ribbing you should use?

  • @cbugstudio

    @cbugstudio

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Karen - if you decrease the size of needles for stockinette, you should also decrease the needles for the ribbed portion proportionally, i.e. if the pattern calls for knitting the stockinette portion with size 8 needles and rib with size 6 but you have to move down to size 7 for the stockinette to make the gauge work out, you'd move down to size 5 for the rib portion. Hope this helped!

    This is awesome. I really like your video because you show what to do if it isn't what you need. I also appreciate that you discuss width vs height gauge. I WOULD, however, appreciate you using metric size needles because they're universal. I have no idea what a size 9 is. Aren't those arbitrary sizes different depending on what country you're in? Thanks!

    Oh, and I only mention the needles size because I'm not sure if going from a 9 to a 7 is a big difference or not. I can see the difference between, say 4.25cm and 4.5 cm in my head because it's based on regularly used increments.
