Understanding Hip Abduction: Anatomy, Muscles, and Range of Motion

Welcome back to the anatomy lab!
In this video, we explore the fascinating mechanics of hip abduction, a crucial movement for activities like walking, running, and lateral movements. Discover the anatomy of the hip joint and the primary muscles involved in hip abduction, including the gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, and tensor fasciae latae. Learn how factors like hip positioning affect the range of motion and understand the difference between active and passive abduction. Whether you're an athlete, fitness enthusiast, or simply curious about human movement, this video will provide valuable insights into how your body works.

    The posterior fibres of Gluteus Medius act eccentrically, with the foot in a closed chain position, to control pelvic obliquity in mid stance phase, It's concentric action is minor in comparison.

    How much does the QL in the lower back contribute to hip abduction?

  • @1unsung971

    @1unsung971

    2 ай бұрын

    Difficult to answer that responsibly. The lateral fibres of QL (it has 3 distinct divisions) are small in comparison to glute Med. Sometimes these lateral fibres are a source of discomfort, when pfgm timing is late or weak in weight bearing. It's often a nasty intractable pain that is difficult to resolve. Lumbar lordosis and pelvic tilt, and lower rib angle will all influence resting tension in the lateral fibres of QL. Fix Glute Med and the QL pain usually resolves. See Porterfield and De Rosa mechanical Lower Back Pain.

    Great Video thanks. QL vs Glutes. Both stabilize the hip, right? How can I tell which one is not pulling its weight? Which excersise favors the one above the other?
