Understanding and Using the Cruciform in Your Paintings
Hi everyone. The cruciform composition is one that you often see in abstract artwork and, at its basic form, is a cross or cross-like shape. But if you just put a cross into your painting it can be rather boring.
In this week's video I show you some different ways to use the cruciform to help create more engaging pieces. Feel free to follow along and practice using the cruciform in your paintings.
As always, if you have any questions, topics you'd like me to discuss, or anything else, please reach out. Don't forget to like and subscribe and ring the bell to be notified whenever I post a new video.
Hugs,
Gwen

My passion for painting waned these past years though I’ve kept at it. With this basic technique you’ve presented I find my passion reignited! I’m excited to try this! Thank you.

Hi Gwen, love your videos. What is the paper you are mixing on
What white are you using? Love this exercise!

I am using Titanium White...
Thank you Gwen! What I don't understand is if you are using oils why does it drip when you add water? I would have thought they don't mix well.

Great question....you are right....water and oils do not mix well. I am using Gamsol which is also what I clean my brushes with when I finish painting.
Are you using acrylics on watercolour paper?
Is this acrylic or oil paint ? My related question is are you using water solvable oil paint ?
Are you using acrylic paint for these little sketches?
Is that acrylic?
What paint are you using?

I am using oil paint...
is this in oils?
@GwenFoxArtist
Жыл бұрын
yes....
Why ?
This is just producing decor. It has no relationship with serious art.

The definition of Art is a matter of perspective. What is art is some is not art to others. I am curious. What is your personal definition of art? It is a process of creation through creativity? Or is it how the resulting end product is judged? Or is art specific to a certain mindset or creative technique? I do believe that everyone is entitled to share and learn as they wish. Just as I believe that everyone is entitled to have and share their opinions. I am excited to learn more about your thoughts.

Who told you this is not relevant to serious art? Google Roger Van Der Weydon's Deposition From the Cross. Also go to your library and take out 'Mastering Composition' by Ian Roberts Also.. this is abstract, very different from representative painting but the principles of composition are the same.😊
